I don’t normally write reviews but this hotel really did it. Sad to say that I will NOT recommend this hotel. The hotel is not a luxury hotel as it claimed to be (not even close). Upon arrival in our room, an AC remote control was on the floor, which seemed to have fallen off the wall (mounted on the wall with 4 small screws). We simply picked it up and put it on the table. A day after we checked out, the hotel had charged my credit card $250 for damages. Damage that we did not do in the first place. I have called the hotel several times, but front desk staff has given me the same answer over and over again that the hotel manager is not available. I have sent emails to get someone’s attention and still have not received any response. In regards to my comment about this hotel not being close to being luxury. (Besides the fact that rooms are not well maintained and blaming/charging the guests for broken items in the room without any explanation) Upon checking in, since I have my small child with me, I had asked if anyone could help me with my luggage. The front desk, of course said yes, i went to my car parked in front of the hotel thinking she would come with me, but she ignored me while me and my son Hauled our 2 big suitcases. Thankfully, another staff had offered a cart so that I can load my stuff and push it myself. Very disappointing.

This is a small boutique hotel in downtown Sandusky. It is very cute and modern-feeling. The room was very nice - soft, comfortable beds, extremely soft towels, HUGE bathroom with rain showerhead and excellent toiletries (shampoo, etc.) The only bad thing I have to say is that there is no soundproofing between rooms/floors whatsoever. You can hear EVERYTHING, including the mere sound of someone walking on the floor above you. I expected this going into the stay (having read previous reviews) and so I brought a white noise machine. This, plus the provided ear plugs, made this a non-issue. My advice is to know what you are getting into -- if you are sensitive to noise, you may want to reconsider. There is free parking right across the street from the hotel, and many other free lots nearby if that one happens to be full. The on-site restaurant/bar on the ground floor was cute - we had drinks one night and it was a nice atmosphere. The rooftop bar was not open for the season (we were there in late April). I would stay here again if I was in the area. Just remember to pack that white noise machine!

I loved everything about my stay at the Kilbourne Hotel. My room was fantastic. It was clean, comfortable, quiet, and well-quipped. There were even earplugs on the night stand to deal with noise issues, but I didn't need them. The lady at the front desk couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. There is a free municipal parking lot across the street and a ramp one block away. The Jackson Street Pier and Lake Erie are right out the back of the hotel. I had a wonderful stay and will definitely stay here if I am ever in Sandusky again.

My husband and I were in the area and chose this hotel. We were very disappointed in the hotel and staff. Our room had an extremely soft bed. My husband has a bad back and we knew it would be a difficult night for him. As we contemplated what to do, a very LOUD group of people checked in next door. We decided it would be best to leave this hotel and find a quieter hotel with better beds. We checked out and told the front desk we were not able to stay and why. I followed up the next day and was told we would not receive a refund for our stay. This hotel is very PRICEY and we lost several hundred dollars due to EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SATISFACTION. WE WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS HOTEL. THINK TWICE BEFORE BOOKING HERE!!!

My daughter made a reservation for me to stay at Hotel Kilbourne for July 25th and 26th, leaving on July 27th. Parking is across the street. When I tried to check in the girl said she was working on something, so I sat on the couch and waited. I told her that my daughter had made my reservation for two nights, but when she checked she said there was only a reservation for one night. I transferred the charges for that night onto my credit card. The room was ultra industrial, with a school type locker for a closet (very small). Everything (drink, snack) was with a price. Quiet room, but even though I kept the door closed on the bathroom during my shower, I found that my clothes in the ‘locker’ felt damp. I had to use the hair dryer on everything I planned to wear! A couple of days later my dau*her informed me that she received a call about the ‘second day’ that was reserved and not used. They had better NOT try charging her for something that was clearly not our fault. Needless to say, I had to scramble and find a room at another hotel for my second night stay since my daughters home was in the process of getting a new roof installation which started in the early mornings. I never plan to stay at Hotel Kilbourne ever again! I had travelled throughout Michigan the previous week and this hotel was the least satisfactory of my stays!

The management needs significant improvement. Our stay was extremely unpleasant. Our room was dirty, so we requested a new room. The second room had a major ceiling leak all night. The receptionists are too busy with other things to take care of guests, and the rooftop bar is very noisy. The noise woke us up in the middle of the night, and the bed was not comfortable. The price was way too high for the quality of our stay. I was severely disappointed. First thing to note is that you share an elevator with rooftop bar patrons - so if you are looking for a quiet experience with social distancing, I wouldn’t recommend staying here. There is also no parking reserved for hotel guest, and we had to park in the public lot. Our first room smelled really stale and weird, like farts. It was not very clean for a hotel room, especially during COVID. There was dust on the furniture, weird grease streaks, and tons of dead bugs on the inside of the window sill. There was also a weird sticky brown goo on the closet handles. The receptionist was very apologetic and nice and switched our room immediately. She did note that bugs are "part of the lake experience / a specific bug season", but I think guests should expect the dead bugs on the inside of the windowsills to be cleaned. There were also dead bug smears on inside of the windows. The second room smelled musty and damp, but there were no dead bugs, so we decided to just stay put, even though it was very unpleasant. The cable on the tv wasn't working, and when we called the receptionist, she just said "it should be working...." and then did nothing else about it. Not the service I expect from a $300/night hotel... We opted out of the cleaning service because we wanted to sleep-in, so we did not get a refresh of complimentary water bottles (very standard at most hotels). When my boyfriend asked the receptionist for a bottle of water, she just said “no… sorry.” I later called the receptionist and had to explain how ridiculous it is for a hotel to deny a guest a bottle of complimentary water. She apologized and asked me to come down to the front desk. After 15 minutes of waiting, I was finally lead to a cooler with water that is "always free for guests.” The receptionists were always busy with takeout orders for the taco restaurant on the first floor. The front desk area was crowded with non-guests waiting for takeout orders from the restaurant, making “front desk” customer experience fairly uncomfortable. During our second night in our second room, there was a very large leak from the ceiling that lasted through the entire night. The next morning the receptionist asked how our stay was and I told her about the leak and asked for a refund. Apparently only the owner can give refunds, so she gave me the owner's contact info. I reached out to the owner twice, leaving a message, with no response. After a couple of days, I called the hotel directly. The receptionist said she remembered me and my stay, and said unfortunately only the owner can authorize refunds. When she asked about the details of my stay, she did note that there was a rainstorm on the night of the leak, implying that a leak is acceptable during a rainstorm at a hotel. She also asked why it took me so long to contact them for a refund. I responded that I had called the owner twice and left a message. I still have not heard back from the owner regarding my refund. This hotel is severely mismanaged, it feels more like a taco restaurant and and a bar with some rooms in-between. The price is way too high for what you get. I feel embarrassed for spending $300 dollars a night here.

We took a little Labor Day getaway to Lake Erie and wanted a cool fun hotel for our base. Hotel Kilbourne was the perfect choice. Modern and boutique-y, with a fantastic taco bar and rooftop bar too. And wandering the revitalized town of Sandusky was really fun!

We booked a room for a few days just for a getaway. The locations is fantastic, easy access to walk around downtown and enjoy the views, pubs, food etc. However the room itself was not as up to speed. We found a dead bed bug first off, then when we went to bed, the sheets smelled like *&^#. Now on relaying this to the staff they were very helpful and did go clean the room while we were out for the day. All in all the trip was a great experience with the hotel stay actually being the worst part of the trip. I would recommend questioning the staff prior to booking.

I have stayed at every room possible in this level hotel. Every room is amazing but we favor the rooms overlooking the lake. The loft is amazing and I love the large outdoor area overlooking the city also. The hotel is very clean and very nice. The old building decor is simply relaxing and gives the whole place an amazing vibe. The rooftop bar has a great view, and they keep it clean and warm. Oh Taco has great food and great mimosa deals on the weekend. We visit this place even when we aren't staying at the Kilbourne. The staff here is amazing. The owners are super nice. The only downfall would be the thin walls, but it's not enough to make you not enjoy your stay

We found ourselves in downtown Sandusky on an overnight business errand that we used as a mini getaway. Our daughter had suggested Hotel Kilbourne several years ago because of its uniqueness and we agree. It is a nicely kept property with clean rooms and common area. There is a small gift shop adjacent to the lobby where you will find unusual local items an done of a kinds. I noticed several reviewers mentioned noise. We did not notice too much except guest room doors not being held until closed multiple times. Street noise on our lake facing room was minimal despite construction nearby. Checking in and out are very simple and efficient. There are a few individual pods for coffee in the room and the lobby coffee was not ready until after 8am. There was very little interaction with staff except at checkin. No one was at the desk when we left but there is a key drop.
