Everything from the super friendly and respectful staff to the finest most minute detail of their charming accommodations, the Balch is so much more than just a place to lay your head but it is so wonderful that it qualifies as a destination unto itself. Best place we have ever stayed in Oregon. Will be back and give our highest...

My husband and I celebrated our 13th wedding anniversary and stayed in this very quaint hotel! The management and cook were outstanding, and treated us to a great dinner and breakfast...so accommodating to vegetarian tastes as well! To top off our celebration, the staff even gave us a special Balch Hotel mug filled with chocolate-covered almonds! It was great! We...

If you are looking to slow down and getaway to a relaxing hotel - this is your place! We joined some other auto enthusiasts for a weekend at the historic Balch Hotel and it was quite nice. Since all of the rooms w/ private baths were taken, we stayed in a room that was just steps away from a bath...

My husband and I came to the Balch for a short anniversary get away from Seattle, and we couldn't have been more pleased. It truly is a vintage hotel, very charming. Furnished with lovely antiques and original art, it's more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel. I mean, how many hotel lobbies have you actually hung out in?...

Thank you for your kind review. We spend a little extra to get the best ingredients that we can from local folks like Azure Standard and Eberhardt's Dairy. We are glad to hear that you appreciate the effort.

We have stayed here twice and will likely return next year to attend a local music event. This is a historic hotel, which means many of the rooms are not en suite - be sure to ask about that if you don't want to share a 'down the hall' bathroom! The owners and all the staff we encountered were very...

If you're looking for a quiet trip with a historical feel & no television, this is the best place I've found. Dufur is a tiny, but well kept and pretty location. This hotel is close to Maupin, which has great rafting.

I have stayed in the Dalles and Hood River numerous times. Decided to step off the beaten path this time. The Balch is 20 mins off the beaten path and well worth it. The hotel is very charming and the staff beyond pleasant, warm and welcoming. The room was small but cozy. I had a queen room with a private...

My husband & I spent one night here & loved the ambience, the history and setting. It's a short drive along the Old Barlow Trail (a part of the Oregon Trail) through the ridges & fields that are perched high above the Columbia River. We chose a room with a bathroom in it - very comfortable firm beds but not...
