Frenchglen is a sleepy little hamlet, and the Frenchglen Hotel is its heart and soul. My partner and I stayed three nights right at the end of the hotel's season, October 31. This is like visiting your grandmother's (or great grandmother's) house in which she's lived for seventy or more years--quaint, idiosyncratic, and a little dusty under the beds and...

Wanted to visit Steens and this is one of the closest hotels. Place is old and nicely maintained. Rooms are small and baths are shared but that's ok. Never had to wait to use the ladies restroom or shower. Towels were plenty and all was very clean. Food is family style and very good. Ate here two night and place...

Yes, this is a neat historic hotel right at the gateway to Steens Mountain and the beautiful Malheur Wildlife Refuge. But it would benefit greatly from some good old fashion cleaning and touch ups. My wife and spent one night (room 5) and did enjoy the experience. As the only place to stay in the hamlet they provide a robust...

It was a treat to stop at the Frenchglen Hotel during our travels in the high desert. We needed a respite and it was the perfect place to rest, get clean from camping, and launching a new day with a delicious breakfast. They are ideally located for exploring the Steens Mountains and the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. Consider going to...

The hotel sits conveniently at the north entrance to the Steens Mountain loop. It was quiet and restful. We stayed in Drover Inn just behind the hotel. Dinner is served family style and was very good. Guests dine together which made it fun to visit others staying at the hotel. Highly recommended.

This repurposed family farmhouse is a comfortable little hotel with a total of 8 rooms, 5 on the second floor, and 3 in separate cottages out back. It is located in the hamlet of Frenchglen within the boundaries of Malheur National Forest and on the edge of the Malheur Wildlife Refuge. The manager, John, is knowledgeable about local road conditions,...

Stayed here 2 nights. Very friendly staff, John. Got room #4 next to girls bathroom. A little noisy but there's not many rooms total so not too bad. Quaint historic hotel just as you would expect-- an older house with small older rooms. We had air conditioning so very comfortable. Shared bathroom was not a problem. Ate dinners and breakfasts...

SE Oregon is full of stunning visuals and natural beauty. However, finding a place to stay overnight other than your own tent or have a meal in style is rare in this remote, desert corner of this beautiful state. The Frenchglen hotel is a special find and worth to stop by for a meal. We did just that for the...

Stay here to experience the history—not for great luxury or amenities. Our room was a tiny, 10’x9’ space with bad lighting and no private bathroom. We were prepared for this, and the room was reasonably comfortable. An improvement would be good reading lights on both sides of the bed and extra pillows. Dinner and breakfast are available at the hotel,...

We spent three nights at the hotel which gave us a chance to explore the Malheur Wildlife Refuge and nearby areas in depth. The place is historic, congenial and really special. We stayed in "The Drover's Inn" behind the main hotel as it was one of the few rooms with two beds. Meals at the hotel are served "family style"...
