We recently stayed at the Hood River Hotel, a quirky and historic place with rooms of all shapes and sizes. The welcome was warm, and they even acknowledged my birthday with a small gesture in the room. Unfortunately, they missed honoring our request to remove the minibar and not serve alcohol, as we are a sober couple.
Our king-size suite came with a full-size refrigerator, a retro-style microwave, a single-burner cooking appliance, and a coffee maker. The kitchen was stocked with dishes and utensils. The closet, shaped like a triangle, included an iron, a rack to hang clothes, and a pull chain. The bathroom, with a shower/tub combo, sink, and toilet, was cramped with no space to put anything. The shower curtain had two magnets that made it cling awkwardly while we showered. In the bedroom, we found a portable AC unit, a fan, and a ceramic heater, but despite several lights, the room remained dark. The toilet, concerningly, had water rising well above the rim with each flush.
The main issue was the noise. While the hotel provides earplugs, they didn’t help when the nearby train shook us awake.
Housekeeping also requires effort from guests. They only clean between 9 AM and 5 PM if you're out of the room, and if the “Do Not Disturb” sign isn't hung correctly, they won’t come at all. Despite bringing the oversight to the front desk’s attention, we were met with apathy and just received towels. Throughout our stay, we had overflowing garbage, no toilet paper, no coffee, and ran out of towels—basic necessities that should have been taken care of.
The hotel has its charms and certainly feels trendy, but between the noise, the uncomfortable bed, and the door that didn’t latch properly, I found myself missing the comfort and reliability of a corporate hotel. The lack of attention to housekeeping and the repeated warnings about charging us for makeup stains on linens felt excessive. I wouldn’t return, as the experience left much desired.

Overall I give this hotel a solid four star review. It’s old (and historic), but the rooms are well furnished and very clean with lots of windows and the best location in Hood River – – right on main street. Dozens of shops and restaurants are just feet away from the front door. We were there with a group of college friends and we all liked the hotel. The lobby was the perfect place to gather by the fireplace. While we were there the central heating system was being repaired and was inoperable, but they had plenty of space heaters which were sufficient to keep us warm. From looking in other rooms it appears that all these rooms are very different in layout and size - so be careful to look online and know what you’re getting. And many of the rooms do not face the street. My guess is they’re probably a lot quieter but your office they don’t have the view. We were in room 319 which was a large corner suite on the top floor. A couple things to be aware of. Again, it’s an old hotel. We thought the rates for this time of year (last week of October) we’re too high for what we got. But we were looking for a hotel with a lobby where we could all gather and this had that. We paid over $300 a night and that was the midweek rate. again, be very careful in picking out the right room that meet your needs. And the hotel is very upfront about the fact that they’re on a busy street and near the railroad lines and there is lots of train and road noise. It was not a problem for us, but the windows were all closed because of the time of year and even though the rates are high, there was no included breakfast. But there is a restaurant on site that is very good for breakfast and lunch. And I have to point out how helpful the staff was in every single respect. They are really very lovely people to work with, and made us feel at home.

This was an adventure to be experienced. Yes the hotel is old and has many antiques, and the location is great. Walking distance for shopping and dining. The room was very clean, and had new carpeting. The train does run multiple times during the night. You can also hear a shoe drop from your upstairs neighbor. Street parking, it is free after 6 pm until 8 am, otherwise you must pay. They advertise adult beverages, but the night clerk was too engrossed in her phone to sell a beverage. My recommendation to management would be to hire a couple staff members that smile and want to be there, it would have set the tone for a more enjoyable stay.

We enjoyed the historic building and its decor. We really loved the location, and how we could walk to so many great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, wine tasting rooms, and shops in less than 10 minutes! The hotel's discounts with some of those places were a nice bonus.
Our 2nd floor "Historic Queen" room had some noise from I-84 and the railroad, but we were still able to sleep well. (The hotel does provide earbuds.) We would absolutely stay here again!

We recently stayed at the Hood River Hotel for a family’s wedding. The room itself was fine, but could use updating. Especially the bathroom which had mold on the ceiling and had dirty grout inside shower. One of the more frustrating things was the internet cut out for the majority of the trip. When I called to the front desk to ask about it, the clerk told me it was my problem and her internet worked fine. The wifi problem was not isolated to our room — it also didn’t work in the lobby or the remaining days that we stayed there. When we checked out I mentioned this to the employee who was helping us, he said that he would have given us a partial reimbursement but he had already charged my card. He later said he would send the reimbursement, but that never happened, and the hotel never responded to my email asking for an update. Would not stay here again and would definitely not recommend. Hotel needs to improve customer service for the prices they’re charging.

We stayed one night in this 19th-century hotel. Room 105 is at the back and looks out over Pietro's Pizza parking lot and the train tracks. Noisey when the train goes by. several times a day. The large, high-ceiling room had 2 queen-size beds. Both were comfortable with an abundance of pillows. One tall dresser, a small sink in the room, and a tiny toilet/shower room. The nightstand was glued shut. We didn't mind the radiator heat during the night, but the room was cold in the morning. They provided a space heater, which we used. Good snack bar in room. The location is perfect if you like shopping and eating out because it is right on the main commercial street. Lots of unique shops and restaurants to choose from.

Shabby, dirty, tired. It used to be a lovely place never 5 star, rooms were $99 a night and it had good food at the restaurant it was clean and full of character. Now it has had a coat of fashionable coloured paint, gone are the old four poster beds and some fake looking old furniture added. The fittings in the bathroom were rusty , the grouting in the tiles was black in a lot of places and it generally looked grubby. The fans in the ceiling to keep you cool have gone the only obvious revamp is the new check in desk and now it costs $235 a night. Sorry they have to be joking , we will not be back and I have been coming here for the last 19 years. A shame used to love the place as I said though no more not for me not at that price.

Hood River is a beautiful area to spend time. The historic hotel has been thoughtfully renovated. The rooms are small but very comfortable. The main lobby and adjoining restaurant is beautifully restored. The hotel is located across from the train station so the hotel provides earplugs! I was impressed with the attention to detail. Highly recommended!

Cute idea to renovate a historic building as a hotel but you need to commit and make much needed maintenance improvements and it needs a deep cleaning. Especially for the price you are charging. Our room was not clean, specifically the bathrooms. They smelled like mold and they really looked as if they are never deep cleaned. See pics! Also stink bugs started crawling all over the ceilings at night. Probably easy for them to get in through the old windows. We could hear people walking around and dropping things above us all night long and the train runs constantly through the night and is very loud. We all slept horribly. Great location but too many cons to come back.

The hotel's location is excellent as you are on the main stretch of downtown Hood River. The rooms were clean but not fully useable. We would rather have less decor furniture and have it replaced with a fridge or microwave in the room. Be aware you will have to pay for parking to stay the night! The staff was amazing and was always willing to assist if needed. It has the elements that will make you remember your stay, including the room keys, the history of the hotel, and the vibes. It just needs the minor kinks to be worked out to become even better.

We were there on a Sunday night and didn't need to pay for parking at night. However, we paid the $3 for a permit to put in our window to cover the next morning after 8 am. You can't park on the main street but it was easy finding a place on the street up from the hotel--a very short walk. We loved the restaurant in the hotel and that's where we had dinner. The owner was really nice and it made for an easy place to go after a long day of driving. We later walked up and down the street and there were other nice looking and packed restaurants. Breakfast at the hotel was perfect.
There are more places to choose from in the Hood River area.
