Detailed Reviews
We were looking for a halfway point to break up the drive from Yellowstone to southern Oregon, and the tiny town of Rufus looked like a logical stopping point. We found good reviews for this totally refreshed motel and called to make a reservation, which was a good thing as its a small motel and it filled up. Our room, while small, was spotlessly clean, nicely decorated and very comfortable. There must be decent sound proofing, because we didn't hear highway noise or our neighbors and slept great. The price was super reasonable! Its wonderful to be able to support a small family motel instead of a big corporate chain. Two thumbs way up for this great little motel!!

This is the nicest and most reasonable motel in which we have ever stayed. It is run by a family that has obviously put quite a bit of $$$ into upgrading the interiors. The windows are triple pane for abating I-84 noise, so it it quiet. The beds are excellent and way better than most motels. Rooms 4 and 5 are larger with a kitchen and sitting area. Woodwork, paint and wall coverings are also very nice. And a block down the road is a great trucker centric dive bar/steakhouse. All in all, this is a fantastic place to stay if you are on the way somewhere, visiting Maryhill Museum (amazing Rodin collection), or just traveling.

We called ahead, because we had stayed here before, and don't always know what may be going on in the area. Check in went quickly, and we moved into our room. Outside and inside, everything is so clean! The room is quiet, and warmed up quickly. The bed is very comfortable, the intro book they have printed tells a little about how they have done the updates. I would recommend the Rufus Hillview to anyone looking for a clean stop-over, or a base to tour the area. Breakfast is included, just have to drive down the street a bit to the Bulldog Diner. (Which is another winner!) We actually stayed 3 nights, visiting Maryhill Winery, Pendleton Mills in Pendleton, OR, and driving around the roads of Eastern Oregon.

After years of driving by Rufus, we decided to book a room, and do some fishing on the John Day River. What a pleasant surprise when we opened the door of our room! Everything has been ... not just updated... but completely redone! Clean, clean, clean, with pleasing color scheme, upscale linens, refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. Staff is very friendly. Easy checkout. We will return!

Perfect. What's not to like? A really good find. It felt like home. Clean, and cozy, Staff very courteous and friendly. Came in kind of late and can't wait to wake up and see the local attractions, a really big river and wind mills.

We were traveling after touring the West Coast and on our way to Boise. Not knowing the area we selected the Rufus Hillview Inn. Our room was very clean and was well supplied. The only reason for a 4. It was small, but for the price was fine. I would stay there again,

Traveling for work as usual! Convenient location close to the interstate and the gorge. Rooms are clean and cozy. Bed is very comfy. The staff is very friendly as well. Sad they are all booked next week or I would stay next week as well! Love all the wood on the walls, great ambiance. Give this place 6 stars if I could.

I had a reservation but was unable to stay at this property due to a family emergency. (I am not sure if this review will thus be posted.) However, I would like to comment about the attitude and service of the hotel front desk. Our reservation got tweaked by us a few times before we ultimately had to cancel our planned stay. Each time the hotel staff was friendly, accommodating and informative. I would like to commend the staff for this. I am sure we will have an opportunity to stay again as it is near the race track that we plan to visit. A very sincere thank you to everyone at the hotel. We look very forward to a future stay.

We stayed here the night we went to a concert at Maryhill Winery. Loved that it was just 5-10 minutes to the concert. Enjoyed the friendly owners. Its obvious they care about the guest experience. Features we liked - clean cottage-like rooms, refrigerator and microwave, outdoor patio gathering area, high quality sheets and bedding.
