Great location and there are some clear upgrades happening, but it seems to be straddling the line of nicely renovated and dated beyond reason. The staff is hustling and appear to need additional support from ownership as the chairs in rooms and AC are sub-standard in the extreme. We arrived and our room key did not work. Back to the front desk for key reset … still did not work. Turns out there was a person placed in our room by accident … and there were no additional rooms available save for the single she was supposed to occupy. They worked for quite a while to figure this out and we appreciate the effort. The woman in our room was in bed, so they moved her and cleaned the room for us to occupy. This took quite a while, but again, we appreciate the hustle on what was the hottest day of the year at that point. After all this, our family goes down to eat at the restaurant, but kids cannot be served after 9. Mind you, we arrived at 7:30 … so would have been plenty of time had they not made the mistake. It was an absolute hassle but we appreciate the effort and we still paid full freight on everything. How do we not get comped a meal? Or a drink? Or receive some grace on dining hours? Or some communication from front desk to kitchen staff on perhaps making our night less trash than it had been made? Seems like an easy thing to do in the hospitality business, but again, these staffers seem to be doing all they can to keep it going, so much so that the guest experience is not really on their mind. They are just trying to satisfy the very basics. There is a lot to like here, but it was a rough experience.

I am so sorry for this unfortunate incident at our hotel. I remember it well and how kind you were to us. Unfortunately we do not own the restaurant and are not able to use their services as a way of compensation. I did immediately call down to the restaurant that night when I learned you had been turned away to ask that they allow your minor kids to eat after 9 and I was informed it was a very strict OLCC rule and there was nothing they could do. I am so sorry that you were not offered any compensation and I will take a look at your account now. I appreciate your feedback and hope that you will come again next year and give us a chance to redeem ourselves.

We spent a night here recently. This motel is in a great location, overlooking the Columbia River. The outdoor pool is just above the river and if it hadn't been so dang windy we would have gone for a swim. The entire facility looks old and worn out and could use a renovation. Our room was fine, quiet enough to sleep well and comfortably. No major complaints, just worn out carpeting, chipped paint, etc. Clean enough.

Loved the room and Portage Grill. Acceptable breakfast choices (free). It's a wonderful property and location. We enjoyed being "tourists" checking out local historical sites and some exceptional restaurants. Baldwin's, the Last Stop, Clock Tower, HiWay House and Burgerville U.S.A. We'll be back. Love Shilo being pet friendly. We wouldn't go without Murphy Dog!

Thank you for getting away with us at Shilo Inns - The Dalles! It is wonderful to read that you had a wonderful visit. Nothing brightens our day like hearing you got a great taste of the town. Thank you for highlighting some local attractions! We loved providing a welcoming and cozy stay, and we look forward to our next chance to serve you.

Absolutely horrible!
Checking in the lobby looked nice but was freezing cold because the balcony doors were open and there were many frustrated people huddled by the fireplace.
I was not offered a map of the property just a flourish of the girl’s hand saying “your room is down there”.
When I finally found the building with my room, there were a bunch of drunk guys smoking and partying in the parking lot. I don’t know if they were guests and I was never asked for vehicle info, which makes me think they don’t patrol.
I was traveling alone and a little nervous.
Got to my room, it was freezing! There was construction equipment everywhere and I was too afraid to go back outside to get my bags.
The room lighting was cold and minimal and the brightest light was through the curtains from the parking lot lights (parking lot it dark, lights shine on the building). The floors are cheap linoleum and so cold that they cold-burned my feet through wool socks. No heater or fan in the bathroom so my shower was very uncomfortable. It streamed up the room and eventually the very thin blankets became damp. Towels; think paper towels!
The heater has a big gap between it and its mount which also lets light, bugs and cold air in.
I set my take out food on top of the dresser, and by the time I got out of the shower it was filled with ants!
The beds are so high and the floor is so slick that I injured my knee getting out of it to turn the heat up.
The entire place is paper thin so I could hear my upstairs neighbors whispering and many others arguing and partying until well after 2am and it began again around 6am.

I put up the “do not disturb “ bit still housekeeping had many loud personal conversations outside my door, vacuumed outside my door (but no where else) and then a male joined and it was not stop cussing from then until I left! So glad I didn’t have my grandmother or my child with me!

Oh! And in the morning, I couldn’t get to my vehicle because of homeless people with off leash dogs claim g the parking lot and being aggressive!

DO NOY AYAY THERE!!!

We were there in a bus tour. We had a dinner at the hotel for our group, but they ran out of food before everyone got a chance to eat.
When we got to our room, there was no shower curtain and the hairdryer wasn’t fastened to the wall, but was laying on the counter. There were 2 sinks, which was nice, but the sink in the bathroom had no soap. The room had minimal electrical outlets which we needed for CPAP and charging our devices. At breakfast, they ran out of food, plates, coffee and coffee cups before even 1/2 of our group had eaten. It wasn’t restocked until we were about ready to board our bus. The only trash can was overflowing until the day shift person came and and emptied it and worked on getting more food and coffee. I realize they are short staffed, but many if these things should not have happened.

First of all I reserved through Booking.com and rented two rooms for 4 gals for a girls weekend. I reserved suites with two beds and requested upper floors that were pet free and next to each other. The Hotel responded and said they could give upper floor and pet free rooms. I then called the week of our trip and spoke to the front desk asking if there pool was open and if rooms we requested had views and were next to each other. The young man that answered said rooms would have view of the Columbia River and dam and that our rooms would be near each other. We arrived early Saturday after a 5K in Hood River. One room was ready but the other was still being cleaning so we waited at the pool. The one room was downstairs and the one we were waiting for was upstairs. I said I had requested rooms on top floor next to each other and the desk clerk said she could see the notes on one room but not both I rented. I asked if they could be moved near us and that I had called twice to confirm during the week. She said I must have called Booking.com because they had no notes. I assured her I spoke to a young man on one day and a woman on the next and they were front desk clerks. She was rude and said rooms are only issued on the day of check-in. We waited at the pool for our other room to be ready and it wasn't ready until 4:00. When I moved our things to the upper room it had a distinct body odor and room was really old with stains to the sleeper sofa. The next morning breakfast was a joke with very bad tasting biscuits, greasy sausage patties, eggs that tasted like plastic and really bad coffee. The only decent thing to eat was a bagel and cream cheese. This hotel does not have locking doors to the hallways so anyone can walk in from the outside without checking in. Hallways smell like weed and are not clean. I would not recommend staying here and will not be back.

First, be wary of outfits claiming to be the hotel itself. Reservations.com is not to be trusted. We booked through them unknowingly for $107 night. Actual was $167 with fees and taxes.
The hotel itself should be bulldozed. No hangers in the room, sink was broken, only two dim lights in the bedroom, a toilet that flushed every 20 minutes during the night, sliding door to the deck that hardly slides, threadbare linens…
We’d been better off in Motel 6.
No, we didn’t complain, we’re writing this review instead. It’s just paying attention that irks us.

We were very tiered after traveling to The Dallas arriving at 2:00. Tried to check in and there was an additional $25.00 charge for checking in before 3:00. I wasn’t about to pay $25.00 extra after paying $112.00 for the room for 1 night. The room was ready, I have never run across a motel that would charge you for checking in early. If the room is ready. The bed was very uncomfortable, it was very difficult to adjust the temperature of water without burning yourself or having cold water, the hallway had a horrible carpet smell. We also picked this motel because they advertised including hot breakfast. The check-in desk served us scrambled eggs & 2 sausage links. He popped it in the microwave and served it lukewarm. Very disappointed and will never stay at a Shilo Inn again!!!

Stayed overnight for a conference. Room was clean, they had newer laminate floors. Sure, stuff is outdated, but it works so who cares? You get a good price. Continental breakfast was better than I expected with omelettes, sausage, yogurt, cereal, etc.
There was a small coffee maker in the room, as well as an ironing board and hair dryer.

our room had a yappy dog next door to it. the front desk people were harried and couldn't keep up with needs; we were told that they'd have coffee for us when we left for fishing early the next morning. there was no coffee. the pillows are not real pillows, they are some sort of smallish hard square things. the room REEKED of stale tobacco. the parking was convenient, the restauraant the Portage next door was convenient. the views were nice, but the room, meh- never again.
