Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for a race in Timothy lake (the Mt Hood 25k / 50k). Rooms were spacious and clean (had a king with fireplace), and most importantly , quiet. When I asked if I could be placed in a room further away from the pool / patio, the team was really helpful and considerate. The property is walkable and pretty. You can access some trails as well.
The hospitality industry is still hurting, and this property is not immune. Due to short staffing, housekeeping was not a daily service (you could request it, however) and breakfast was switched from a la carte to buffet. Not a huge issue otherwise, but because I was there for a race, I went to breakfast with the goal of getting some toast / bread for pre-race breakfast only to find out that it was a buffet with pastries and some hot food. But no bread. Not the biggest deal in the grand scheme of things, but managing guests’ expectations would be helpful. There are tons of in-town spots for food shopping, great bakeries, etc.
I wouldn’t seek the resort out as a destination, but for what we needed, it more than served its purpose and I’d probably stay here again for the race next year.

Overall we had a wonderful time and already rescheduled to come back! All the staff was wonderful and accommodating, if anything we felt bad for them because they were understaffed.
We ate dinner at the Altitude which despite the fact that it was extremely slow, due to understaffing our server was wonderful. We came back for breakfast, because they had a "breakfast menu" but were told they were only doing buffet style that morning and they wanted $15 per adult and $8 for kids and the food looked terrible and like it had been sitting out since the day before- so we did not eat the breakfast.
Also on the website I purchased the stay on, it advertises "plush terry bath robes" which was not exactly the case and you had to ask for them as well as towels for the pool (which is weird). Extra towels were definitely needed- due to the design of the showers, it is almost impossible to shower without getting the entire bathroom wet.
The pool definitely was in need of some maintenance- Needed cleaning, bricks were falling off, jets didn't work in the hot tub & safety rails in the pool were missing.

The suite we booked smelled like mildew and had numerous maintenance issues (burned out light bulbs, loud AC unit, spotty internet/satellite tv, broken/sticky doors. The mattresses were hard. The bathrooms had absolutely no counter space and the shower had very low water pressure, which may have been caused by the type of shower head that was installed in the bathroom: one of those rain shower-type heads. The grounds looked like they had seen better days: more weeds than grass, dead plants in planters, garbage in some spots, wood decks that look like they need a little tending, door locks that have been replaced but the outline of the old locks remain. I'll bet that pre-pandemic this was a nice, well-maintained (probably beautiful) property. Hopefully enough people will stay, allowing the property to hire the appropriate amount of staff and turn it around.
On the positive side the staff were wonderful, welcoming, eager to assist and cared about the quality of our stay. The front desk clerk who checked us in gave us excellent information about Mt. Hood hikes and other tips on local attractions. We had dinner in The Altitude restaurant that was delicious (French Dip and Fries for me and "the best grilled cheese ever" for my husband). We were so impressed with our dinner that we tried out the restaurant for breakfast. Sadly breakfast was not a good experience/bummer. Anything we brought to the attention of the front desk was quickly addressed and corrected. The room itself was quiet but we stayed during the week when not a lot of people were staying at the resort. The staff in the restaurant were prompt in taking our orders and serving. The staff and their cheerful dedication to service were who saved our stay. Otherwise the room quality and the grounds/resort was not worth the room rate we paid However, the resort's close proximity to Mt. Hood made going on hikes and scenic drives very easy.

Best thing about this resort is the exterior. Rooms are very dated and dirty. We had two rooms and unfortunately a long stay of 5 days. Roaches, broken phone, broken doors that would not lock, broken clock. Fitness center was closed for renovation but apparently that has now been over a year. Restaurant was absolutely horrible. Out of food, poor food, and drinks made poorly. Staff was all untrained interns with the exception of one nice female bartender. Restaurant was so bad too many problems to list. It takes ALOT for me to leave a bad review but this place needs a lot of care and attention. It is extremely dated and unclean. The ac/heat are very noisy wall units and good luck getting your room cleaned. 3 good things to say 1. The outside appearance looks nice 2. We had a very nice bartender 3, i had a very good massage. This place is dirty and staff is untrained and apparently short staffed. We asked for daily cleaning which we did not receive so, then we went to front desk ( couldn’t call phone was dead) and asked if we could get clean towels just to be told they were out. Do not recommend. If they want return guests they need to put some money into this place and clean it up and update it.

This was a pretty disappointing stay, especially for the cost of the room. Not only was our room switched without asking us (from two queens to a single king - and I was with my family) after I had to change my reservation from 2 to 1 night, but we were never informed (by anyone) that there is a complimentary continental breakfast that came with the room (even when we went into the restaurant in the morning). So, we paid for an additional breakfast (about $50 extra) for my son and I when we basically ordered all of the same food that should have been free. When I mentioned all of this to the management staff they just shrugged and said "sorry." I really didn't get the sense that they cared much. Probably wouldn't recommend this place.

This was easily the worst stay of any hotel I have been in over the past 20 years. The worst problem was that all of the faucets in my room put out rust water. It was orange/brown and smelled terrible. I ran the faucet for 10 minutes straight and it still looked and smelled like rust. I could not even brush my teeth using that water and had to use bottled water. The water in the toilets was also brownish-orange and I thought at first that someone just hadn't flushed it.
I also had requested a feather-free room due to an allergy, but there were only feathered pillows in my room. When I called the front desk to inquire about getting some feather-free pillows, I was told that she didn't think they had any. I asked her to please check with housekeeping as I did not think that a resort this large would not have a feather pillow alternative. Housekeeping was able to locate a couple of pillows, so that issue was resolved.
The power went out overnight and the conference I was staying there for was cancelled. I don't blame the hotel for the power outage, but that added to this discomfort I experienced in this hotel. There was no heat in the unit and it was very difficult to see in my room with no lights. I could not take a shower (and did not want to due to the rust smell of the water). If I were staying another night, I would have asked for a different room, but I left since the conference was cancelled and power was not expected to be restored for at least another 12 hours.
To be charged a "resort fee" and the full price for this awful experience is ridiculous. Again, the power outage is not the hotel's fault (although I am stunned that there was not a generator and that even the emergency lights were not operational). I do believe that maintaining the rooms and water systems is the hotel's responsibility and this unit should not have been given to a guest when there is clearly a water line issue.

My friend and I had a great time staying at the Mount Hood Resort. Becky, who checked us in was so much fun and lovely that it kick start our trip in the best of ways. We stayed in Fireplace rooms that were very large, well taken care of and very clean. After a 13 mile hike up on Mt Hood we enjoyed a hot tub and dinner and drinks at the resort. Our meal was excellent. I had the fish and chips and my friend had the halibut. Afterwords we went to the bar for a cocktail. Our bartenders Jonathan and Travis were exceptional at their craft. The cocktails we had were perfectly prepared and they were the most affordable drinks I have had in ages. We had a wonderful time at the resort and I highly recommend it.

I am appalled by the condition of this hotel and the fact that this is considered a premier location. This hotel is old, unkempt, dirty, lacks good customer service and is not worthy of being part of the premier collection. I cancelled another reservation I had at another Best Western for half the price and that was a huge mistake. The room was moldy, the bedding was old, the carpets dirty and the most egregious insult was the condition of the ADA bathroom. My husband is a double amputee and the bathroom was barely usable. The room had a roll in shower but the seat that was attached to the wall was inclined downward so that one felt like one was falling off the bench. The controls were in a place not reachable by someone sitting on the bench so there was no way to turn on the shower if you were on the bench. By comparison, we are staying in a Best Western in Bend, Oregon this evening and the room is clean, has good bedding and the ADA bathroom is designed so that my husband can take a shower without me having to help him. Shame on Best Western for allowing that run down horrible hotel charge what they are charging. It is a health hazard. The hallways were filthy and looked like they had not been vacuumed for weeks. How in good conscience can they lead people to believe that this is a premier condition.

The property appears fairly well-maintained and is nice looking. The view was very pretty. The person who checked us in was friendly and efficient and the person who dropped of the requested roll-away bed was also friendly. The property is conveniently located near the mountain resorts. The bed was comfortable (though had a phallic drawing on the mattress that showed through the sheets). That is where the positive experience ended.
There is a coffee pot, but the coffee provided is for a keurig and the pot is a standard pot. Two towels were provided for our party of five. Not a big deal, but there should be at least one towel and washcloth for each person registered to stay. When the person dropped off more towels I opened the door when he had a chance to walk away (contactless interaction) and thanked him. He looked at me like I killed his puppy, did not respond, and hopped in his truck and drove away. It was very odd. We rented a king suite that is advertised for five people. Maybe six, I can’t recall. However, the bathroom is only accessible through the bedroom which is super awkward if you aren’t staying with family. Obviously that’s not an issue with customer service, but I wish we would have known. I’m not sure if a herd of elephants were staying above us, but between 6:45am and 11pm it sure sounded like it. We tried to talk to the elephants to no avail. When we checked out it was quick but definitely not friendly.
We travel probably once every month or once every few months on a regular basis, from three star places to five star. We aren’t complainers, will rarely report an “issue,” and will try to communicate with loud neighbors ourselves because we understand the hotels aren’t responsible for the actions of other guests. However, this has definitely made the list of places we will not return. For the price we expected something on a completely different level and we wish we would have stayed elsewhere or even just camped instead!

Our family of 6 adults and 3 kids stayed in a “golf villa” which is really a tired, dirty, and neglected duplex. We had no view of the golf course or anything else but overgrown weeds and dense trees that came right to our deck that hadn’t been cleaned up of the previous guests beer cans. Inside was worse. Horrible smell upon entering the unit, lots of bug to kill, ants and massive spider webs galore in every corner and hanging from ceiling. Floors were not clean, years of dirt and grime built up on the hardwood floors in kitchen and old linoleum floor in laundry room. Kitchen was worse; dirty sponge under the sink, one hot pad that was worn through so bad you would burn yourself if you used it. wet dishes in dishwasher for us to apparently put away.. No can opener, 2 bowls, no kitchen towels, broken garbage disposal, tried running the dishwasher and the soap dispenser was broken so dishes we put away and ate off of were obviously not clean. Spent most of my time in the kitchen cleaning after calling to get a new sponge, paper towels, trash bags, etc. 🤢 Did not eat at the restaurant ; this place is far from a “resort “ no real amenities no breakfast option I was told there is No manager (Christopher) on duty during the week so front desk told me he’d call me back but never did even after calling back repeatedly after checking out.

It takes a while and it helps to know the local transit system. You can take the MAX out to the Gresham transit center. (From PDX use the RED line to Gateway, then get on the BLUE line to Gresham). Then you can get a bus from Gresham transit to Sandy. Once at the Sandy transit center you can get another bus (Mt. Hood Express) towards Govt. Camp/Timberline and am pretty sure that there is a stop at Welches. From the bus stop its a really short walk to the Resort at the Mountain. If you time it right it could take between two and three hours, but not sure how much. $2.50 for the MAX, not sure how much from Gresham to Sandy probably another five bucks? Then another few bucks from Sandy to Welches... Might want to call the BW Resort at the Mountain and they can give you times.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Yes, The pool is heated and open in every season.
In answer as to things to do in this area..there are
1. Beautiful hiking (easy & difficult) everywhere.
2. Visit Timberline Lodge
3. Visit Government Camp (8mis) a real ski town and good museum.
4. Scenic drive thru Parkdale and down the Columbia River.
5. Bingo on Fridays in winter.
6. Very good library and liquor store
7. Very good lakes for in season fishing.
I absolutely did not have the impression of a run down place. Quite the contrary, my room (close to the main building) was very nice. Maybe the hotel has been renovated lately or is in the process of doing so. Best check with management.
Of things to do: I had been in Columbia River Gorge last year. There are lots of beautiful waterfalls. Most of them are quite easy accessible. Not sure though what the weather and conditions are like in October. One of my favorites Oregon waterfalls is Punchbowl fall. The hike up is a bit more strenuous but so worth it.
Hope this helps. Enjoy your vacation. By the way: Switzerland is great for skiing!!!
We just stayed there this past weekend and it was fine. Read my review and it will (hopefully) make you feel better.
