Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
The arrival to Glendorn hints what you are about to experience. The several mile manicured private driveway through the woods and (assuming you have a reservation) brings one through tall wrought iron gates, flanked by stone walls from a hundred years ago. Clearly, you are about to step back in time. This place is a snapshot of a period when the uber wealthy, who wanted a country retreat, could have anything they desired.
My wife and I stayed in “Miller” (c. 1919), Mr. Dorn’s first cabin. The large bedroom includes a sitting area, fireplace and a bath. The cabin also has another separate sitting room with sleeping nook, fireplace, an adjacent second bath, plus, there is a kitchen with breakfast seating. There is also a cozy screen porch and patio. Every room is unique in its craftsmanship.
The entire cabin, except the bathrooms and the kitchen countertop, was built of chestnut wood. Dorn built this for himself and his son as a hunting cabin. You will not like this cabin unless you enjoy 100 year old perfectly maintained bath fixtures, and tiles - no ‘water saver’ valve in Mr. Dorn’s shower! ;)
Mrs. Dorn was not about to sleep in any hunting cabin; and, she subsequently built the main lodge, which is a jaw dropper in every respect. The woodwork everywhere on this property dates back to a time when people of wealth had their craftsman build entire cabin interiors from pecky cypress, chestnut and other rare wood species. These people even brought their massive dutch oven from Holland, the front door of which is forty inches wide and seven feet tall.
The Dorns built their dozen or so, each unique cabins, scattered in the woods both near and far from their spectacular main lodge home. Some cabins have been updated with modern conveniences; but, they all maintain a feel for a bygone era. My wife and I would have preferred our cabin to be without the TV; but, I guess some people can’t turn off the outside world, which is what this place is all about. (The “Miller” cabin, at $1,300/night, is inclusive of a breakfast far finer than the Four Seasons, and more professionally presented. We took breakfast each day in our cabin; and, all meals are offered wherever you prefer to have them.)
Our former favorite place to retreat in the woods was Rolling Rock, which has become large and feels commercial. Glendorn remains small, intimate, has a far better chef, and more graceful service.
Glen Dorn is truly serene. Do not change a thing. We will be right back.

I felt the need to share our wonderful experience this past weekend. The 4 of us were looking for a 2-night getaway within a 3-hour radius. The Glendorn was recommended so we booked. We had no idea that we would receive the attention and care bestowed as soon as we booked. Megan called us before our arrival to inquire about what activities we were interested in, and any food preferences/allergies. When we arrived we were welcomed warmly, our itinerary was reviewed including our meal time for dinner and the activities we booked. We were given a brief tour of the main lodge and the history of the Glendorn. We were then escorted to our cottage and given an overview of the amenities. We found our cottage fully stocked with water, soft drinks the infamous "Glendorn chocolate chip cookies, a delicious cheese and cracker plate, fresh flowers, a full stockpile of dry logs for the fireplace, and anything one would need as far as toiletries go. Once we settled in, we were asked to arrive 30 minutes before dinner to find a staff member at the door to welcome us, take our coats, and escort us to a beautiful gathering room for complimentary appetizers and cocktails. We were then escorted to the dining room where we received the BEST service any of us have ever experienced. We elected to order the 4-course meal prepared by their chef and were not disappointed. For breakfast every day we had the option to eat at the lodge or have breakfast delivered to our cottage, what..... we could not believe this! The following morning we awoke to our breakfast delivery, two gentlemen delivered more wood and shoveled and cleared our vehicle of snow from the night before. As you can see I am thoroughly impressed! This resort is a GEM and I highly recommend it. We look forward to returning.

We stayed in a cabin. It was quiet and peaceful. The accommodations were excellent. There was plenty of room in the cabin, the refrigerator was well stocked with water and drinks. There was a Keurig for coffee and tea. The staff were amazing and very attentive. We went on a guided nature hike with a terrific guide. Then we hiked around the property and took a golf cart on some other trails. The food was very good. The ambience of each location (breakfast on the sunporch, lunch on the outdoor patio, and dinner in the main dining room) was great. I was really impressed that the menus (all 3 of them) had some different offerings each of the 3 days we were there.

First time staying at Glendorn and a Relais & Chateaux property. It was a splurge, no doubt. My husband and I stayed in the Green Room, which along with the bathroom was very spacious, and we found the bed to be quite comfortable. The radiator by the bed does gurgle loudly, so if you’re a light sleeper bring earplugs or use white noise. It is really a charming room and set apart from the main lodge enough that it felt very private and quiet.
We shot sporting clays with Charles and he is not only a super guy but a good and patient teacher. We also met Shane and Jim, who were equally welcoming. Anyone doing an activity with them is in excellent hands.
Breakfasts were fantastic, as was the local maple syrup. Dinner in the main room had a very nice ambience, especially the first night, when we sat directly in front of that gorgeous fireplace and watched a light snow shower outside the window. We did wish the dinner menu changed more, as it had the same entrees and dessert during our stay, but we did enjoy the food, though slightly underwhelming. The dress code is “smart casual,” so you don’t have to break out the jackets or formal wear, but we did notice everyone stepped it up from daytime wear, which made the setting feel more special.
Each and every team member we encountered was professional, friendly, and helpful. For those like us who use a card or app to pay for everything -- bring cash for tips and note the service charge added to each bill is not a gratuity.
A note about connectivity: The wifi did not work in the room for us, but it did just on the other side of the wall, in the small den available to all guests, which is a cute little room to sit in front of the fireplace with a drink and a book. It also worked in the rest of the main lodge. Our phones, however, did not work as soon as we entered the main gate – NOT a knock against Glendorn, just a heads up for others (we have AT&T).

We just had such a spectacular fall couples getaway weekend! Relaxing over lunch, drinks by the fireplace with friends, sauna, hiking, fly-fishing and elegant 5 course dinner with world class service. Every detail was perfect, and the staff are unfailingly friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating.
Located just south of the northern Pennsylvania border adjacent to the Allegheny National Forest, it is a scenic drive from Pittsburgh, western New York and eastern Ohio.
The Lodge at Glendorn is an utterly unique escape destination of rustic charm, comfort and low-key adventure with world class service, dining, cocktails and relaxation.
The site of a former 1929 timber baron’s family hunting and fishing lodge, over the course of 70 years saw next generation families each build their own ‘cabins’ near the central Lodge.
These elegant 1-4 bedroom houses have been remarkably preserved with modern mechanics and creature comforts in early to mid-century decor, and are ideal for family or multi-couple visits.
They are separated by an enveloping forest with paths and forest roads, a short walk to the central lodge, which was constructed of old growth redwood shipped back in the day through the Panama Canal.
The current owner has spared no expense to carry on the timeless beauty and relaxing appeal of the experience on the Appalachian woods, with lakes and streams throughout the property, hiking and biking trails, canoeing, guided fly fishing, trap and skeet shooting and off-property guided adventures.
Accommodations are inviting, elegantly comfortable and private throughout the cabins, with rooms available in the lodge as well.
Our take on the experience is the service and dining experience of a 5 star hotel, such as a Ritz Carlton, in a relaxed, friendly, elegantly casual setting with high-end but low-key adventure activities.

We have stayed at Glendorn several times over the last 26 years ( I was 7.5 months pregnant our first time). This trip we brought 5/6 of our kids and 4 spouses. Everytime we go Glendorn has new activities or surprises for us! They are super accommodating as well. Of special note is the service. We arranged for an outdoor dinner at Skipper Lake. There were 11 of us but they managed to get all of us at one table. The forecas earlier in the week had called for all day/all night thunderstorms. We had a glorious day, temps in the high 70's, sunny and we were certain the evening would be perfect. About one bite into the first course we heard a rumble of thunder in the distance. Within 20 minutes, rain started to fall, not heavy but enough to get me up snd moving toward the shelter of the cabin close by. I walked in and started arranging chairs, I could get 8 at the table and the other 3 could eat on their laps or at a desk in the room . Soon it began pouring. Some of the guys hustled and moved the food under the roof of the outdoor porch. Then hail began to fall!!! It let up here and there for the next hour but it always went back to pouring. Through all of this, our lone server, Chris, hustled back and forth from the main lodge to get what we needed. He always came back, wetter than before, with a huge smile on his face! His case was quite extraordinary but really, everyone at this resort clearly loves their jobs and strive to give us guests the best possible experience.

Every time we visit Glendorn, we truly feel like it is a restful, rejuvenating escape. Whether hiking through the many trails, partaking in various outdoor sports, having treatments in the spa, sitting out by the fire pit in the evenings after dinner (with a beer assortment and s'mores to boot!)--no detail is left unfinished. This past visit, we had the opportunity to meet the owners, Cliff and Tracy Forrest. They could not have been more generous with their time, welcoming, or kind. The Big House has been restored to a bygone hunting lodge era circa the 1930's. Each room, from the Billiard Room to the Main Hall is warm and inviting. The art collection dispersed throughout the property is thoughtfully displayed and beautiful. Each cabin/room/suite is exceptionally appointed down to the last detail. The executive chef and kitchen team create one of a kind, mouth-watering meals (even during COVID!) that are delicious and memorable. The staff from the front office to the guides could not be more knowledgeable or nice! During a global pandemic, this was the perfect retreat to get away for several days. The Lodge has worked hard and adapted well to provide guests with a safe environment. We always have a great time and absolutely love visiting here.

Totally fantastic experience. We stayed in the Guest House, a 4 bedroom cabin within easy walking distance to the main house. We had all meals except a lunch along the river, at the Glendorn dining facility. We hiked the trails, and we had guided fly fishing 3 days. The guides were outstanding, especially patient with a couple novices. We also did a guided drift boat on the Clarion River with shore lunch; a tremendous experience to say the least. Cant wait until our next Glendorn adventure!!

This was our first time to Glendorn and won't be our last. The vast property and limited number of historic cabins and main lodge rooms makes for a very exclusive stay. The staff was incredibly accommodating of health issues that still require masking around others. Separate cabin lodging, patio dining, offers of private picnics and meal deliveries to the cabin, and an uncrowded property made a resort vacation possible again. We biked, hiked, swam, walked the gardens, played shuffleboard, took a backcountry jeep tour, had a picnic overlooking one of the ponds, played pool, enjoyed the fireplace in our cabin, and saw fawns and great blue herons daily. The food was spectacular, from the amazing breakfast to the four course tasting menu, with produce freshly harvested from the Chef's extensive garden. We can't wait to return.
