First off, apparently there are 2 sections in this hotel, one is older and shows it, the other is a newer renovated section, we happen to get stuck at the older section, although this is supposed to be a non-smoking hotel, that’s what you smelled throughout the hallways, hotel is very dated needs lots of upkeep. Hallway carpets stained also need a paint job. As far as our room (144) was concerned it was handicap accessible so it was spacious, furniture is old, some stained, mattress was stained, A.C, mini fridge leaked.
Bathroom was spacious, in decent conditions. Hotel has an indoor pool, small but seemed clean (we did not use it) there was a small gym and a video arcade section for the kids.
(Security) side door by parking lot could be opened by just pulling on it, no need for card key which is how it’s supposed to work. So anyone wanting to get in the hotel could easily do so.
We did report some of these issues to hotel management and they were nice enough to comp us some of the time we spent there. Steve at the front desk was awesome, if there anything he could do for you he would. Very nice gentleman.
(Surrounding area) adjacent to the hotel is a Dunkin’ Donut. They only have drive thru service so if you want anything although you are steps from it you must get in your car and go to the drive thru to order (I thought it was the silliest thing)
I’m walking distance there is a BBQ rest ( really good), a bakery where can purchase breakfast sandwiches and all sorts of goodies. And there is an excellent restaurant called Sycamore Grille, the food there was amazing and they had live music.
We would consider staying at the Clarion again if they updated the section of hotel that needs it. If not we would not bother.

After my fourth stay at this hotel, I am going to finally get around to writing a review for it, it seems. My first stay was negative, and after discussing with things with the GM via email, I gave it a second chance. That stay was excellent, but I am sure they went out of their way to be sure of that beforehand. Stay three was great, so I was willing to forgive that first stay, but now stay "four" was less then positive.
Cleanliness has been inconsistent. Some times clean, and like on this stay, sheets not being changed. (it is possible that they were just badly stained, but in the time of the coronavirus, I am not going to take a chance and the hotel should be cognizant of guests having higher cleanliness standards right now).
Front desk service is extremely inconsistent, and depends on the staff member. Stays 2 and 3 had excellent overall service by the desk, especially that third stay (I think here name was Ashley), who was simply outstanding. This stay, less so. Front desk clerks who simply go through the motions, asking my name, and for my card, then tell me to sign, initial, and give me a key.... while having complete dead air in the interim, in my opinion, is a desk clerk that needs to be trained on guest service. That is okay in a retail environment. In a hotel environment, that dead air time while you click through the menus of the property management system, should be filled in talking, and relating to the guest. Stunningly, she had a man next to her who was probably a manager given he was counting money, interrupt our check in process to ask her a question about her cash drop. Really, sir? That couldn't have waited a few minutes until we were done? Not to mention this likely manager never said a single word to me. I guess I was an inconveniently timed interruption for his plans instead of a welcomed guest at the hotel. Of course, then the sheets.
My previous stay with Ashley (I believe that was her name) was excellent. Ashley was extremely hospitable, and could provide training lessons for each of these two individuals on guest service.
Things I like about this hotel are the performance of the wireless internet, which is outstanding, and the general value of the hotel. Because of that, I will continue to roll the dice on this hotel.

Lobby is not air conditioned. They do not have coffee like it shows in the photo. Pool was okay but a huge piece of plank board was against the wall. At least one of the doors to enter did not lock at all , so anyone without a key could get in. The ac goes on and off all night. Staff was nice and the location was good, but even their "stay info" saying to double lock your doors and don't open it for anyone and don't leave things in your car made it feel unsafe.

So bad I don't know where to start. Despite signs up on the doors and next to the front desk, no one else in the lobby was wearing a mask. When I checked in I asked the front desk attendant to put a mask on which he rolled his eyes and did. During check out I asked the same of the desk clerk Steven. He went into the back room and got a mask. As he was stepping back to the desk he said something loudly that I asked him to repeat, but he not surprisingly refused to repeat. I watched them put used pens into the clean pen container. (This is not the first time I have traveled during the pandemic and understand that anytime I leave my home I am exposed to the virus. But the rudeness by this hotel staff regarding the masks and hygiene is the worst I have seen.) In addition to this, I learned at check-in about the $100 charge (not hold) that would be placed on my credit card for incidentals. There is no bar or room service at this time, what incidentals? The room "looked" clean until you looked closer. When we were ready to climb into bad I found hair and stains between the sheets. My husband insisted that they felt fresh and washed and that it was an old stain, or i would have called for more. It was only the next morning that i found the blood on the comforter (fresh blood) making it obvious the comforter had not been washed between uses and me grateful i didn't use it. The chair in the room felt dirty to the touch. Do not stay here. I will be reporting these issues to Clarion.

Response from Mihir Patel, General Manager at Clarion Inn & Suites Stroudsburg - Poconos
Responded 13 Sept 2020
Hi Stacie, Thank you for taking time to post a review of your stay with us here in the Pocono Mountains. On behalf of my entire staff, I would like to apologize for failing to exceed your expectations. Guest satisfaction is very important to all of us. I have printed your review and posted it on the wall for every employee to read. It is important to maintain a high level of cleanliness, especially during these times. I also spoke with my entire staff and reminded them that it is Pennsylvania law that face masks must be worn at all times in public areas of the hotel. Thank you for letting me know about your stay. I always appreciate and encourage guest feedback. I use that valuable information to help me to make improvements to our hotel. I hope you will give us a future opportunity to provide you with a superior stay. Safe travels!

My high school rock band stayed at the Clarion for three nights over the 4th July week. We were rehearsing for our 50th high school reunion on July 4th in NJ. The management went out of their way to make accomodations for us to rehearse in a meeting room adjacent to the bar. We were able to secure our equipment at night and the breakfast was outstanding. Close to the Delaware Water Gap and really good restaurants just up the street. Great friendly place and the lounge heats up at night!

I made a reservation at this hotel and confirmed it with a credit card for my wife and son who were at a wrestling tournament in the area. She goes to check in at 9 PM and the front desk says we are oversold and have no rooms available. Apparently they have a sister hotel (Rodeway Inn) next door and had a room available there. It smelled like weed and wasnt clean so he cancelled the reservation. I made another reservation at a different hotel . The Clarion still charged my card. I couldnt believe that. Dont stay at this establishment. I should have read the other recent posts before I booked.

My husband and I went to PA to visit our daughters. We did not feel like driving back to NYC and decided to stay for the night. I normally research hotels and read the reviews before reserving a room. It was late and I took my chances. BIG MISTAKE!! I called the hotel direct and asked if they had any rooms available? The gentleman said yes (remember this part), so I booked it and off we went to the hotel. Keep in mind, my husband and I travel often and normally stay at resorts. I knew this was not a 4 or 5 star hotel, however we were only staying for one night.
Well, I would like to reiterate something I saw in another review. "If I could give a negative rating I would" and thus gave 1 star. The room itself was okay, however the bathroom was downright disgusting. First of all, neither the email confirmation nor the clerk at the front desk informed us the room was equipped with an "accessible" bathroom (Strike No. 1). I didn't realize this until my husband pointed it out and wanted another room. We tried to get another rom and at that point learned it was the only room available. REALLY!!! It didn't cross your mind to tell us and give us the option of whether we still wanted the room or not??? (Strike No. 2) It wasn't until the next morning that I realized how disgusting the bathroom was. There was mold and mildew everywhere. The floor and walls were dirty and the overhead vent needed to be tightened. (Strike 3) I became angry just thinking about the fact that this room is dedicated for ADAs and let's not forget to mention how germs and viruses thrive in this sort of environment.
Clarion is part of the "Choice Hotels", and judging by that nasty outhouse I can only imagine what their other hotels are like.
Someone please call the Department of Health on these folks.

I never ever write reviews but I have to warn other people about this hotel. Management is horrible! They double charged rooms and then wouldn't refund the money! They charge a ten dollar fee per hour if you try and check in early even if the room is ready! They don't offer to hold your bags until the room is ready they just want to charge you the money! If you rent their meeting room they will charge you money to set it up with table and chairs. Outside benches are broken and the hotel smells and needs a good cleaning.

I don't understand how this hotel is even open. And i am not at all surprised that it has gotten such terrible reviews. I am a Choices member, and this was the very worst. The hotel is so dirty and worn, i honestly did not want to touch anything. Everything is stained and old and dirty and tattered. The only positive thing i can say was the woman at check in was nice, the guy at check out, did not care. it had a bed. It was also dirty and noisy, looking out onto the busy road and parking lot. If this costs what they advertise at $79, it would still be terrible, but my bill was $188, for the most worn and tattered and dirty and stained hotel, which is shocking for this level of hotel. They really should shut down, renovate and start again. I was there for a basketball tournament for my son, and we took a hotel to avoid the 2 hour back and forth, which was a big mistake. i would have rather driven back and forth. it was trash. Oh and if you have baggage and located on the 2nd floor, there is no elevator, you have to walk up dirty, stained stairs with crumbling paint.

We had a confirmed reservation, so the hotel was expecting us. When we arrived at the room, the heat was off and the thermostat said 53 degrees. I turned on the heater, but no warm air was coming out. I called the front desk and the man insulted me by telling me that most guests want the room this cool. I said in late December? He said the heat would come on in 5-10 minutes, but after 2+ hours the temperature had only come up to 60. It was not until we were leaving the next morning that the temp was finally reading 70. This is no way to treat guests and there are too many other places to stay in this area that will do a better job.
