Detailed Reviews
Located right by the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, WGCC is ideally located as a home base for outdoor activities: leaf peeping, hiking, and the other activities available in the area. (For shoppers, the large Crossings Factory Outlets is less than half an hour away.) A small place, it has decent-sized rooms and a nice restaurant & bar. "Stay and Play" packages are available for those who enjoy golf. They also have a good-sized outdoor pool (closed for the season when we were there).
We took advantage of their Weekend Getaway package, which offered a Friday & Saturday night stay, dinners (entree up to $18.95) and breakfasts (buffet, with eggs/omelettes to order) for a very reasonable $289 per couple. (Available Oct-April only; greens fees are extra.) The weekend included a cooking show Friday evening offered by the club's chef, and a murder mystery Saturday evening (using us guests as the characters). The cooking show was very good (and samples of the food were passed out to all of us). The murder mystery was fair, but it did encourage more interaction between the guests than normally happens in a hotel.
Beds were OK but not ideal. No bathrooms include tubs; the manager explained that it's an old building (clearly many of the rooms did not have private baths when first built). Rooms are not handicap-accessible; all are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, with no elevator. The biggest problem is that the club rents out its hall for parties and receptions, and the sound is very present in one's room. (And annoyingly, one must walk through the hall to get to and from one's room.) However, they strictly enforced an 11 PM curfew on the Saturday night party, after which the place was peaceful. Meals were very good.
Overall, we found it a great getaway, at an excellent price, and plan to return.

What can I say - this is definitely an interesting place to stay! Old country club plus hotel rooms, complete with creaky floors and plain rooms. The night we arrived, we were the only ones staying there, plus the fact that it was out in the middle of nowhere, the lobby was tiny and no one mans the front desk at night (the establishment is more of a country club than hotel), the stairs were creaky, lighting was dim...I didn't go right to sleep that night. It was just very different than the polished, new Hampton Inn we had stayed in the night before.
As it turned out, it was very unusual for it to be empty, just being that it was the first week school was back in session. Even so, I kind of didn't like staying at a hotel alone, so was determined to check out after our 2nd night (had planned on staying 3). That morning at the continental breakfast (pretty good), we met another couple who were with a golfing group of 16 couples, all staying there that night. An answer to prayer, to tell the truth, so we decided to go ahead and stay.
The grounds behind the club are very nice and we sat and ate lunch on the lawn, looking out over the very hilly golf course. On our 1st day there, we learned that the Appalachain Trail was just off the access road, so we hiked it out and back for 4 miles of hilly, rocky hiking. A real treat for me!
As for the hotel rooms, they were very plain, but clean. The bathroom had been re-modeled and was nice, though it only had a shower. The beds were reasonably comfortable and it was very quiet.
I really do like the little town of Deleware Water Gap, but for a real treat, go to the ice cream shop about 5 miles south, right off of the main road, before getting to the next town (Portland?). HUGE portions of the best ice cream I've ever had!
I would recommend the Water Gap Country Club if you are interested in a golf outing or looking for a clean place with a lot of character (think it was built in the '30's). Oh, BTW, the clubhouse facilities are modern.

New owners and staff are very thoughtful and enthusiastic! Funny thing, we were to stay at DWGCC and when we arrived we were told there was no room at the Inn. True story...apparently a large party arrived a day early and needed to be accomodated, new owners and family were so apologetic. A family member of the owners were so generous they made arrangements for us to stay at another golf resort in the area. We however did not want to miss out on all the amenities that DWGCC/Wolf Hollow has to offer so we enjoyed not only a very delicious dinner but went back the next day to enjoy a fabulous lunch while sitting at their outside bar overlooking their beautiful golf course.Dinner Friday night was not only delicious but what a rare sight to see owners of a resort actually mingle with guests in their dining room. Truly wish owners and staff the very best. We definitely plan to return! Cheers and blessings to the newly improved Wolf Hollow!

We stayed here a few months after the new owners took over and the hotel was featured on Hotel Impossible. It's still a disaster.
Our flight was delayed 3 hours from Los Angeles. We ended up arriving at the hotel around 10pm tired and jet lagged. There was no one at the reception desk. The only person we could find to help us was the bartender. He came to the front desk and attempted to find our confirmation information. Understandably, this is not his normal job, but he could not locate any information for us. We had an email receipt from the hotel with a confirmation number but that did not help. There were 2 rooms available, so he let us pick the one we wanted, which were 2 fulls instead of the queen bed we had booked. There were several bugs in the room, no art work (just holes in the wall) and worst of all no thermostat. It appeared there was a wall heater, but no control in the room. We hunkered down for a cold evening. The next morning we got up, and left the room around 8. No one that the reception desk again. We found someone hosting a brunch in the restaurant who looked for someone to help us, but couldn't find anyone.
We left for the day. Around noon I called and left a message on the general voice mail, leaving our information, alerting them what room we were in and to ask about checkout procedures. I got a return call around 4 that afternoon. The receptionist apologized for losing our reservation and not having the room we'd booked and prepaid for available. She offered us the weekday rate as a compensation, which turned out to be a savings of about $15 total.
We "checked out" the next day, which was just leaving our room key at the deserted front desk.
Not worth it.

Dear FerandBert- We truly apologize for your troubled experience at our hotel. We understand your need for sleep and comfort upon a long trip. I wanted to address your concerns quickly. The Pocono's typically have lady bugs throughout the region and more abundant this time of year. We make reference to that upon arrival and in your check in packet. They are harmless, however if you are not aware of them- it is always a shock. Our hotel was built in the early 20's and the rooms heat is controlled on one system in each wing. We are upgrading our system in the 2014 season. We do want to make it right and offer you a complimentary hotel room and round of golf the next time you are in town. We do understand this may be too late- however do want to show you we care about your business and appreciate you choosing our hotel. I hope we can try and make this up to you in years to come. We again apologize for any issue you had during your stay. Sincerely Wolf Hollow Ownership

I have played at Water Gap Country Club for 30 years. I stopped playing there 2 years ago as conditions were horrible.I was excited to here new ownership had occurred. After a round of golf at another club I stopped in with a friend for lunch. It happened to be the first day the restaurant was open. We gave them slack and food was good. We then went to pro shop to book a tee time for next weekend.
$60 for a 7am tee time!! Really too much for this place and condition. We walked away and will not play there again. We loved this place and for 30 years traveled far from NJ to play.
Advise for the new owners. Your draw is from NJ and NY. Make affordable for the long commute. $45 for fees brings you more people to spend money at your bar, restaurant, hotel, and pro shop.
Why would I come there, when for $39 I can play a course that is in pro condition 10 minutes from WGCC?
Their in season rate will change May 21 to $49.

Thank you for your response. We are the new owners of Wolf Hollow at Water Gap Country Club. Since ownership, we have been renovating the course. We have renovated the men and woman tee boxes. We also attempt to price ourselves less then all competitive courses. We have rates to meet your needs. The weekend rate is 1/3 less than some of our local competitors. We hope to create a "Stay and Play" package for the next visit. I will personally show you the upgrades to the course and assure you we are the best and most aggressive price in the area. We are attempting to bring this course back to what it once was. Thanks again for your response and hopefully I can show you the upgrades to the course and facility upon your next visit.

We decided to stay here for Valentine's Day. In fact, I'm writing this review live from our room, apparently located over the kitchen with a perpetually slamming door. Walls are paper thin. No phone or waste paper baskets in room. Do yourself a favor and go to a completely different state for your weekend mountain getaway. This place is an arm pit.

+1
I thought the facility although old was very homey and the staff was truly amazing and accomadating. We stayed from friday and was suppose to leave Monday. When we showed up i thought we would be the only one at the hotel but more people had showed up on friday night and saturday. There is only 4 to 5 staff members while they are there running around trying to serve dinner, bartend and run the front desk and they are only there for a short period. The first night we ate there and the food was quite good. The rooms can defitnetly be a little more accomadating, maybe a refrigerator as we need to refrigerate my daughters medicine. Although the staff made us coffee in the morning i did feel there should have been a coffee station set up somewhere considering the restaurant is not open. On Sunday we had gone out for a while and came back around 6:30pm to find no one at the hotel except one other car in the parking lot. We walked in and the lights were off in the reception area and walking through the dining room upstairs to our room the lights were also shut off, pitch black walking in. As the hours of reception are suppose to be open til 8 and restaurant suppose to be open till 11 but not one person was around. We thought this was quite odd. We couldnt even get dinner if we wanted to. We also discovered that the door downstairs to get into the hotel which is suppose to lock and you suppose to enter a code to get in actually does not work, anyone can walk into this facility at anytime. Also the locks on the hotel rooms were not very good either. There is a dead bolt once you are inside the room but not accesible on the outside of the door, deadbolt is useless from the outside. On the outside there is a simple old lock in which it looks like someone took a butter knife many times to simply open this door. I know if we left that anyone can get in our room. Also being on a dark road in the middle of the woods with no other building's around, anyone could hurt and rob my family since it is so desecelet, that is how we felt. This was an issue for me as since there was not a staff member on site and only one other person in the hotel besides me and my family, i did not feel very safe at this point. As i previously said entry into the facility that anyone could have been waiting for us. I am surprised that no local criminal hasnt figured this out yet. We decided at this point to pack our stuff up and leave. We are dissapointed with the owners as safety should come first for there clients. After this last night experience there it cliqued that the owners defitnetly do not take pride with there establishment. I defitnetly think the employees are so overly nice and accomadating due to the neglect of this facility. I actually feel bad for the employees cause i am sure they have to deal with this and the owners do not. This hotel has a lot of potential and we did enjoy the fireplace, the food and the staff. The room can use larger beds as they are only full size. Although the TV was a small tube TV that wasnt a big deal for us but that should be upgraded as well. The room was clean with nice white linens. This hotel pretty much runs itself. You can see that the owners do not take pride in owning this facility. The owners need to say to themselves would we sleep here with there family in the hotel with only one other person in the hotel and not one staff member there to assist with any of our needs or concerns and all lights shut off and no lock on the front door of this facility. We had a nice stay up until Sunday. I guess the weekends are busier so some staff sticks around. I hate to publicly give this place a bad review but maybe my review can help this facility become a little safer and more updated and want to make sure people are safe as i would feel horrible if something ever happened. You should give your clients a good impression to build up bussiness to come back and also give your employees a place they are proud to work for. I Wished this review turned out differently cause it did feel very homey and the staff was amazing. I am only giving this two stars cause the staff was amazing.

The setting is lovely, the hotel has a history and the potential for an amazing experience is there. The problem is there is no follow through, no one with a vision or any experience seems to be at the helm. It started with our reservations made 8 months earlier. One week before check in, I called to confirm. There had been no follow up over the preceding months. My reservation was incorrect..they had reserved the wrong rooms; my sister's reservation went from 3 rooms to 2. They eventually corrected the errors. Now we realized this was a hotel featured on "Hotel Impossible." Ever the optimist I felt any problems they had would have been corrected. Nope!
We called to see if they had hair dryer available in the room or to be checked out. The response was, "We used to but they seemed to grow legs and walk away," so they weren't replaced. OK. When we checked in we asked for some additional clothes hangers...they had none. We were going to the pool and asked if there were towels available...there "used to be," but they also acquired legs so there were none to be had. At check-in we were given no information regarding the hours of the restaurants or any of the other facilities. Actually it is very hard to get anyone's attention at the front desk because there is never anyone there. We watched other guests wait for 10 minutes to check in because no one was at the desk. We could have lived with all of this...no air conditioning in the halls; a window air conditioner stacked on top of the "dead," air conditioner in the room; only one complete working outlet in the room, which can run the air conditioner and lamp but not the clock; even the lack of smoke detectors in the room (isn't that illegal?) but when we returned from an afternoon of hiking on a Sunday in JULY to a hotel with the pool locked, the doors to ALL the restaurants and bar locked, no staff available, and the front desk closed we were shocked!! It was 6:30 PM in the Summer....the night watchman was the ONLY employee there.!! There was no contact information ANYWHERE. What if we had any issues? There were no phones in the rooms nor was there any information pertaining to what to do if there was a problem. My family (5 guest rooms) were the only people in the entire hotel!!!. I guess we know why they run your credit card at CHECK-IN instead of CHECK-OUT. Lucky for us the thunderstorm we had that night did NOT cause the electricity to go out...only ALL the windows and doors in the upper ballroom area were blown open. That was a surprise in the middle of the night! Fortunately there was no one at the front desk when we checked out....guess they didn't want to know how we enjoyed our stay.

We are very sorry to hear you were disappointed in your stay. Your review is very important to us and we want to make it right. It is unfortunate we did not accommodate some of your simple requests. We have numerous hair dryers in the ladies locker room as well as some of the hotel rooms. We also have towels in the hotel rooms for the pool. We close the pool at dusk every night for safety and security reasons. We will find out what room you stayed in and fix the electrical problem immediately. We would like to make it up to you by providing you and your family another night stay and round of golf on us. We truly feel sorry for you not having a great experience and want to make it up to you. Thanks again for your review and we will learn from your review.

Beautiful view, rustic rooms , country feeling and spacious golf course, great place to take your family as long as you don't run into the manager Jill. The most despicable women I have ever met in my life. Leaving this woman in charge was a mistake, very unhelpful and rude. She sat on her butt while servers and bartenders worked hard. Our poor server was cleaning up from 6pm till 9:50 no one came to help him and I was truly disgusted that you would treat a nice staff life this the way you have. You don't deserve to have nice hardworking people when you don't do any work for yourself. Jill you are a reflection of everyone around you and are making a terrible impression. Everything else is amazing about this place. I'm sad to say she told us to get our own drinks and that we should just check out because we were "too big " of a family to handle. The kids all received their dinner last, not for nothing but they are children and did not eat till at least 8:15 when dinner had started at 6. When the going got tuff Jill gave up thanks for the 20% off but we don't need a free meal we need to be treated with respect. There should be someone here who is a people person who is willing to go the extra mile to take care of customers and staff. I have worked in customer service my whole life and I'm half this woman's age and I still wouldn't dream of treating another human being the way you have.

Thank you for writing a review of our historic hotel. I would first like to apologize for your experience. All of your concerns are being addressed. The management and staff at the Water Gap Country Club work hard to make each guests experience a relaxing, pleasurable one. With your review and continued trainings, we will take the necessary steps so that this will not happen again to anyone staying at our property. Your experience is what matters most to us, so again thank you for writing this review and we will make the necessary changes.

Being unfamiliar with the area, I booked a room here based on online reviews. After driving four hours and numerous attempts to contact them, (no answer and message full so I could not leave a message), we arrived to an EMPTY AND DARK hotel! It was the first night of our honeymoon traveling and I was left scrambling last minute in an unfamiliar area to find a decent room. Can you imagine a EMPRY AND DARK hotel after you booked the room, for your honeymoon!? I even received a confirmation email about the stay and a "regarding your recent stay" email the following day!
I contacted the company the next day to have a woman answer the phone who promised I'd "here from upper management today." It has been a week since then, I have written two emails and have still to hear from ANYONE with the company!
They have a 48 hours cancelation policy but won't even call you when they shut the hotel down and cancel on you!
BE AWARE, IF YOU BOOK AT THIS HOTEL, YOU MAY NOT HAVE A ROOM! THEY MAY CLOSE THE DOORS AND LEAVE YOU SCRAMBLING AS THEY DID ME!
I rated it 1/5 only because Trip Advisor doesn't allow any less.

I received this question to answer but have no idea about this hotel. I just reviewed the golf course
Greens fee range from $32.00 to $ 65.00 depending on the time and day. You should check out their website. I think they added a handicap ramp onto the back of the building that will get you to the 2nd floor. Verify with them and request a room on the 2nd floor. There are rooms on the 3rd floor only accessible by stairs.
Hi! Unfortunately our rooms do not have Jacuzzi tubs. But, this is a great suggestion for future renovations. If you have any additional questions about our property, please feel free to contact our property directly, 570.476.4653 - Jeannine Lawless, Director of Operations
