The inn is conveniently located on the main street in Fairfield, PA, just minutes from Gettysburg. It is an odd mixture of old and new. The shower, sink, etc. were modern as was the individual heat/AC for the room. I guess you could say the place had character - it is quite old and has things like a full glass... More

My husband and I were the only guests the night of our stay. The owner and staff were friendly and accommodating. The inn is very clean and the food was great. We can't wait to go back! It was so charming and inviting. Can't wait to eat dinner there!

We have stayed at this inn a few times and have always been very happy with the accommodations and the staff. We ate dinner there a few weeks ago and the new chef and menu are amazing. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

Since we live in the surrounding area, we will probably never stay there , besides breakfast is way overrated . However two nights a week you can get maybe the best dinner in a 50 mile radius, along with an excellent bottle of local wine . My wife and I have been to all the best restaurants in the area... After reading the vast majority of the reviews, my wife and I were looking forward to staying at the Fairfield Inn. It didn't work out that we were there on the morning they served the amazing sounding chicken and waffles but we were still looking forward to the breakfast even though there wasn't a menu for breakfast to go by.... Beyond Gettysburg is Fairfield on the road of retreat of the Confederate army after the battle. Since 1757, the Historic Fairfield Inn provides food and lodging to travelers. There are many different rooms to enjoy dining, including the tavern with its fireplace. Items on the menu date back to previous times with contemporary additions. We recently took a group of... How amazing to stay in rooms that hosted Civil War officers and even Revolutionary War Era guests! The gorgeous building has settled over the centuries, so you feel the history when you walk over slightly tilted floors. The beds and amenities are all modern comfort without denting the historic charm. The owner and his staff are gracious, kind, and generous.... More

Clean rooms and great breakfast. Would be nice to have homemade snacks, coffee, drinks made available throughout the evening. The Owner was very nice and polite. I also received a call before our stay to confirm my reservation, very helpful.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Historic Fairfield Inn offers an enticing, warm, unique and memorable experience. It has been in continuous operation since 1757, and is one of the five oldest continuously operating inns in the country. Our rooms and suites are sumptuously decorated, and our food delicious. The restaurant is noted for our Chicken and Biscuits, and our Ham and Bean Soup (which is the same recipe as was served to the retreating Confederate forces on July 4th, 1863). Visitors to the Historic Fairfield Inn include Patrick Henry, Thaddeus Stevens, Robert E. Lee, and Mamie Eisenhower. This is a "must stop" destination for visitors to Gettysburg. ... more   less
