This is an old motel building. Your father would recognize it. It has recently been given new life by the new owners, who are friendly and -- even more important -- have made a clean, cheap place to stay. Rooms are spotless, and have TV, microwave, and a mini fridge. What more to ask for?

We stay here when we visit Ohiopyle for swimming, hiking, and motorcycle trips. Hosts Jennifer and Bruce couldn’t be nicer or more helpful and gracious! We’ve stay in their single motel rooms, and their 2 bedroom apartment when kids are with us. Super clean with plenty of coffee and snacks. We highly recommend this place. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else when visiting the area.

My fiancé and I stayed two nights during our engagement getaway to Ohiopyle. The room was clean and very comfortable. Snacks and bottled water were in the mini fridge upon our arrival. We were able to hear the TV in the room next to ours; however, everyone seemed to respect quiet hours after 9PM and we had no trouble sleeping. The owner, Jennifer, is an absolute gem! She checked in with us multiple times during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. There was an internet connectivity issue we asked about and she called in her husband to fix the issue (he was also very pleasant to talk with.) The issue was quickly resolved by the time we returned from dinner! The motel is very close to Ohiopyle. (If you plan to do a Pedal/Paddle trip as we did, I would recommend avoiding Laurel Highlands River Tours, I will review them as well.) If you want a nice dinner and enjoy Asian food, check out Nguyen. The price Hopwood Motel will be difficult to beat for the level of attention the owner gives their patrons. Call for reservations, save the AirBNB fee, and leave a nice tip for the house keeper.

Its small and older but clean and pretty comfy. New beds, but tiny pillows. New owners are very friendly. They do offer some breakfast items in the office but its nothing fancy. Fruit, Jimmy Dean type biscuits, packaged sweet rolls, coffee and juice. My only complaint was the futon in our room. It has seen better days. No padding in the seat. Very uncomfortable. Water pressure of the shower was intense. The Pizza shop referenced in another review, I believe, is Highway Pizza. They just celebrated 60 year anniversary. Just a mile or two from the motel. Great pizza at a reasonable price. I always hit Highway Pizza anytime I'm in the Uniontown/Hopwood area.

Motel is dated but very clean and quiet. I stay for 5 days and will stay again soon. Very inexpensive motel and does offer mini frig and microwave. The owner and staff are very friendly. Parking is right at your door which was great for me since I have physical limitations. I stayed in room 23 and was very pleased.

I stayed at the Hopwood Motel quite a few months ago and am just getting around to writing my review. It is adequate, nothing more, nothing less. Cheap, pretty clean and on the highway. The best thing was the pizza recommendation (they delivered). Ice was rationed, which was a problem for me because I like ice in my drinks. I agree with one other reviewer, the A/C had a bit of a smell. The rooms are small, but for one person it was fine. The bathroom was small, period. Mine wasn't as moldy as another reviewer. My bed linens didn't have any holes in them, either. I was in the last unit to the left (farthest from the office) and the wi-fi kept cutting out every few minutes. I wasn't doing anything important, just e-mails and planning the next part of my trip so it wasn't critical, just frustrating. Like I said, the pizza was the high-light of my stay, I wish I could remember the name, they'd get a great review. There was a flier in the office, so if they are still in business, get one delivered to your room. I got a small with all meat and it came quickly and was still hot. I was surprised how cheap it was, I think I got away with $15 including delivery and tip and I am a decent tipper. I did very much enjoy sitting in one of the Adirondack chairs out front with a Scotch in my hand watching the few cars drive through on old-40. Hopwood has suffered from the by=pass as has most of Uniontown, a shadow of its former self.

Thanks for taking the time to review. We know that clean rooms and low cost is how stay in business for three generations ( grand pap built and operated, then mom, then me). I'm glad you enjoyed the grassy setting overlooking rt. 40 and the mountains...and more ice is available at the office till 9pm. The free Internet was recently increased and runs at 24 mbps. Uniontown is growing fast in the past couple years. Please come again and visit soon. The pizza shop is called Vinneys 1-724-438-2828 and they are great! We have plenty of flyers in the office for future guests. Thanks again, Dan.

I'm afraid I had higher hopes for the Hopwood Motel. It looks decent in photos that I've seen, and the reviews aren't too bad. I'd hoped for nostalgic and retro, but unfortunately, found old and funky instead. I don't set the bar very high when traveling, but I expect cleanliness and some degree of comfort. Upon entering the room we were met with a sharp musty smell and a strong dose of disinfectant. The room did not seem to be dirty, but the stall shower was very moldy and the outdated bathroom was in some disrepair with loose electrical fixtures and falling-away tile. The old tiled stall shower had been lined with ill-fitting fiberglass panels to cover them up, and one can only imagine what might be growing behind the cover-up. The poor old sway-backed bed was way overdue for replacement and it was like sleeping in a hole. The bedding was clean, but there were two big holes in the blanket. We very much want to support mom and pop businesses such as this, but it's hard to justify when you come across an establishment like this. I hate to say it, but the next night we stayed in a chain hotel for about $14 less, and the firm bed and clean, intact bathroom were very welcome. A motel can date from the 1950s and still be well-maintained and comfortable. The Hopwood Motel has the potential but needs a whole lot of work.

Even though your review was hard to read, the squeaky wheel gets the grease! After reading the concerns....I closed the room and made the proper improvements: bought a new bed, new carpet, tightened the outlet and gutted the bathroom wall and shower and painted the room. There was only internal water damage close to the toilet. I replaced the studs and all the plumbing and tiles. There were clean/dry plywood behind the shower walls and was in great shape. The shower head had a slow drip and ultimately caused the mold problems. I have learned that water is the enemy. You did mention that room #18 was clean. And the bedding was clean, although our washing machine was hungry and ate a hole in the blanket. Also, that you feel the need to support the mom and pop type business. I hope someone reads this...requests room #18 and wrights another review on the updates. And that your review only reflect that one room, and problems from that one water drip, and not the motel as a whole. Thanks for mentioning in the "room tip" that people see things differently and to give Hopwood Motel a try...

This property was the only family-run hotel that we stayed at on a two-week cross-country trip, and we were satisfied with the value for the price. The bathroom was very small and room a bit dark, with the decor rather outdated (and the tv remote seemed not to work and tv to offer few channels). But for the value (we paid $60/night) we made do with the somewhat tight space and limited furnishings, appreciated the fridge and microwave, and found the staff very friendly and helpful. We were visiting the area to tour the Frank Lloyd Wright houses and under different circumstances might have preferred lodging closer in and with more amenities, but since we knew we'd arrive late after a long day's drive and had many more hotel nights elsewhere ahead of us en route to Florida and back, we were glad we chose the Hopwood on this occasion.

We were just in town for the night as I had an interview nearby at the Nemacolin Resort, so we didn't need much but a bed to sleep in. I am always a little nervous about staying at little no name motels, so have to admit we were a little anxious leading up to getting there. The man who checked us in was nothing but friendly and helpful. We had an issue getting to the hotel, the gps took us to the other side of town, so he asked to see what my gps said and was trying to find the issue. he also took note that it was me and my mom and asked if we wanted a room with two beds instead of one. The actual room was actually pretty nice! Definitely a step back in time, but I really don't have many complaints. Clean, cozy, didn't smell musty or bad of any sorts. Bed were decently comfortable. The one had cigarette burns in the comforter, but not major. Bathroom was quite small, but was manageable. Didn't like the outlets, all of them were completely full and overflowing with attachments so i had to disconnect one of the lamps just to charge my cell phone. The fridge had a really bad sour smell. But other than those two things, I definitely didn't mind staying here for the night. If i was in town for just a night again I would def go her, but any longer than that I think I'd just spring for the Holiday Inn. Overall, not the typical motel stigma, pleasant to stay at, staff great and def a value for the money we paid! I'd def recommend it if you just need a place to stay while passing through.
