We randomly stopped in here to have lunch. Food was average, service was average. We had grilled fish with garlic and chicken fajitas. Both meals served with rice and mixed vegetables. Plenty of other places in town to find a better and less expensive meal.

Stayed just one night and then moved on. Staff not that friendly. No towels in private rooms with bathroom. Inclusive breakfast no choice you get what your given. Can't drink your own beer in the common area you have to buy theirs. Not the best hostel in town. After one night moved to Rosita Hotel just round the corner. It...

It's not cheap at USD $38 for a private room with bathroom including a megre breakfast. There were no towels in the room and when we asked the revelationist she begrudgingly gave us one for my wife and I to share. The lay out of the rooms around a central atrium reminded us of an American prison that you see...

The rooms here are just too warm. A couple of very small fans do nothing for rooms of 8+ people packed into a small space. Would highly recommend staying at Naked Tiger up the hill for a similar price with cleaner rooms, better atmosphere and cool rooms.

I've visited Casa Oro Hostel on a weekend. That's probably a good idea if you're looking for party. Down on the street and in the hostel there are lots of people partying - and the dorm rooms can't be closed. Casa Oro seems a little chaotic but a good place to stay if you're looking for a good time with...

Within minutes of arriving at Casa Oro I'd already locked in a surf trip with an instructor for the next day. As no-one else booked it, it ended up being a private lesson, where I caught 23 waves in 2 hours! I was 10 minutes early for the surf trip truck that is shared by everyone going in that direction,...

Casa oro is well located in San Juan del Sur. Unlike other hostels in Nicaragua you have to pay for everything advance. The staff at the reception is not always friendly. The hostel is very big, with 3-4 dorm. The second dorm at the ground floor was dirty, especially the bathroom. Cockroaches were having a peaceful family life in the...

What makes or breaks a hostel is the ambience and attitude of the staff, and casa oro was really unpleasant. From the reception clerk who acted as if she was bestowing a great gift upon us by allowing the unique honor of a room, through the unfriendly reaponses to basic questions (where is the cinema? The nica bus agency?) and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa Oro was the first hostel and surf school in San Juan del Sur. Before that it was an obligatory spot on the historic gold route through Central America. Today, Casa Oro is the first eco-hostel in San Juan del Sur, part of the Circulo Initiative, a family of for purpose businesses in pursuit of regeneration. Tourism growth and development often leave destructive side effects for cultures, communities and the environment. It doesn’t have to be like this though. We find inspiration in how nature works and use this as our compass for holistic creation. In everything we do, our aim is to leave places better than we found them. So far, it’s working. -- Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, Casa Oro offers a variety of budget-friendly accommodations designed with conscious backpackers in mind. We have both dorms and private rooms available. All of our dorm beds come equipped with privacy curtains for your convenience. The second and third floor boast a balcony that wraps around the entire building. A scrumptious breakfast is included with any stay along with free Wi-Fi, lockers (bring your own lock), free filtered water and access to a communal kitchen. Friendly vibes and hugs are also included at no extra charge. Our beach shuttles are conveniently located just outside the front door, surf school is downstairs and there’s even a RestoCafe/Bar, so all you’ve gotta do is roll out of bed and everything’s at your fingertips. We’ve also got donation-based yoga classes regularly. ... more   less
