When we first arrived we were told that we could only stay one night since the dorm we could stay in was reserved for the next nights. So the next morning we went to the desk snd asked if the had some other beds available, they told us that we in fact could stay in the beds we had. And...

We are sorry you were disapointed by our services. We are also sorry but surprised that the fact your beds were booked on the following day led your stay to become the « Worst experience ever ! ». During the Christmas holidays, we have a lot of people staying at Casa Oro and numerous reservations. We are trying to satisfy every requests but...

Stayed one night while passing through SJDS. Dorms were comfortable and kept cool with the fans. The hostel staff fostered a warm, friendly atmosphere and the central courtyard was great for hanging out and meeting other backpackers. One of the staff, Will, from Canada was extremely helpful! Breakfast is included which was delicious, only one serving per person though. Location...

We rocked up here late night and were taken in immediately. The staff were helpful, the place was clean, they played Endless Summer 1&2 endlessly on the reception tv. We went out on a surf tour on our first day here, I blew out my ankle and was shuttled off to hospital in Rivas by the staff without the chance...

I stayed in Casa Oro three nights over Christmas as the lonely planet recommends it. The hostel itself is a nice place having all the things the lonely planet tells about it, kitchen, breakfast inclusive, wifi, shuttle service to the beaches etc. Well it misses warm water for showers and filtered water but that are the only missing things. The...

Thank you for your really detailed review. We would like to address some rules and principles that we apply here at Casa Oro and that probably exist in many similar hostels : - in Nicaragua, all hostels offering dorm beds at this price do not include hot water, the water is heated by the sun in the water tank, and...

This hostel was recommended to us by a friend who had stayed there a couple weeks before we arrived. At first it seemed like a nice hostel, but after a couple of days we noticed that there was something strange about the way they handled the bookings. Aparently it was only possible to extend your stay for one night. We...

Thanks you for your comment. We are really sorry you were disappointed with our services. Usually we always keep our dorms open for walk-ins. However during the Christmas & New Year Holidays, we do accept some reservations paid in advance. We did give you a 24 hour prior notice that your beds were taken the following day and despite your...

We are a group of 7 people. We were told we couldn't book our stay in advance so we just rocked up here and stayed for a night and wanted to pay for our next night (Christmas Day) and thank god we asked because apparently they were planning on kicking us out the next morning because they have a reservation...

During this period, we exceptionaly accept some reservations paid in advance. Your beds were reserved on Christmas day, you were not kiked out, we just told you could...

As we strolled around San Juan we stumbled upon Casa Oro in the blistering heat. We had a couple of less to be desired hostels and wondered into the wooden shack like hostel. Good location and a really friendly, helpfull staff with good services (shuttles, tours etc). Nice rooftop terrasse and descent breakfast aswell. Nothing spectacular in the rooms and the prices are a bit high. A noisy area, but this is more the holidays festivities to bland than the hostel.

Thanks you for sharing you experience with us. We are glad to hear you highly apreciated our staff and our services. The holidays period can easily explain the little increase of our prices (as everywere in town...) and the numerous festivities in the area. It's a nice place, with nice amenities, but half the rooms here reported bed bugs. When we reported it to staff, they denied it, saying they were fleas. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Casa Oro was the first hostel and surf school in San Juan del Sur. Before that it was an obligatory spot on the historic gold route through Central America. Today, Casa Oro is the first eco-hostel in San Juan del Sur, part of the Circulo Initiative, a family of for purpose businesses in pursuit of regeneration. Tourism growth and development often leave destructive side effects for cultures, communities and the environment. It doesn’t have to be like this though. We find inspiration in how nature works and use this as our compass for holistic creation. In everything we do, our aim is to leave places better than we found them. So far, it’s working. -- Just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach, Casa Oro offers a variety of budget-friendly accommodations designed with conscious backpackers in mind. We have both dorms and private rooms available. All of our dorm beds come equipped with privacy curtains for your convenience. The second and third floor boast a balcony that wraps around the entire building. A scrumptious breakfast is included with any stay along with free Wi-Fi, lockers (bring your own lock), free filtered water and access to a communal kitchen. Friendly vibes and hugs are also included at no extra charge. Our beach shuttles are conveniently located just outside the front door, surf school is downstairs and there’s even a RestoCafe/Bar, so all you’ve gotta do is roll out of bed and everything’s at your fingertips. We’ve also got donation-based yoga classes regularly. ... more   less
