I find some of the negative reviews below baffling as I found the owners to be friendly and very helpful. I had to stay unexpectedly at short notice, and had to extend my stay twice. All of this was accomplished smoothly and with no fuss. I found my room to be comfortable and clean. It is true (as some reviewers...

A warm greeting from the lady owner. Took my card details by writing them down! The room was okay very basic and Same with the bathroom. Bed was comfortable enough and wifi was good. A beautiful view from the window. Evening meal was a bit of a let down. Order a 3 course menu as it worked out cheaper because...

Our stay here was pleasant, but could have been so much better. The garden outside needed some summer colour in its tubs outside and some weeding and general sprucing up, for it is a very attractive space round a lovely building. I was very worried by the evidence of damp in the landing ceiling and the dining room roof. The...

Booked into this hotel via booking.com. I noted that the payment was taken on the day of booking but my card details were asked for again on arrival(why?)I was given a key by a pleasant and polite lady but not shown to the room. I chose not to eat in the restaurant as I felt it was too expensive for...

Discovered on "Late-bookings.com", a quirky country stop-over out of town and in the Swindon area. It appeared just the job and a reasonable room rate. We arrived around 18:00 on a Friday evening. A beautiful converted school in what seemed to be the middle of nowhere! The car park was empty with the exception of the owners car and we...

I booked and paid for 2 nights for my brother at this place - they were hostile and unhelpful and refused admittance without the cardholder present despite being happy to take payment over the phone and well aware of the situation. In my 20yrs as a journalist and filmmaker booking crews all over the world I have NEVER experienced such...

Needing to be at a funeral early in the morning and with a drive of 80 miles in the rush hour and iffy winter weather we decided it best to go down the day before so we stayed only one night but would definitely use The School House if we needed to stay in the area again! The food, both...

Between Christmas and New Year we had a family gathering here after having a walk just down the road in Lydiard Park. The booking was for 2pm. There were 10 of us (8 adults & 2 children). We were the only people eating which was fine because we were quite a large group and it allowed us to be more...

We visited the Old School House for a meal and was most impressed, right from the warm welcome. Food is obviously freshly cooked to order so this is not a venue that rushes its customers through by turning tables several times an evening - they appear to be offering a full evening experience. It starts in the bar with drinks....
