Stayed at Chequers Inn for one night due to working in the area. The room was clean, warm and cosy which is exactly what you want on a cold winters night and beds were very comfortable. We received a lovely warm welcome upon arriving and when realising that we had to leave for work before the time that breakfast was served the chef offered to come in early to make our breakfast. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious (I wish I had had enough room for dessert!) and I would definitely return without a doubt if I was in the area again. Thank you for a lovely stay and the amazing customer service. I hope I end up in the area again soon so that I have another reason to swing by!
Where to start with this.... at the beginning! From our first enquiry to the day of our celebration, The Chequers Inn were faultless. Laid back, yes, and nothing too much trouble. Solutions not problems. I helped with table layouts and we had an amazing florist on hand, but Luke, and Natalie, were with me every step of the way with the planning. My husband had ideas with food choices, which Paul, Ryan and Tyler executed to perfection, and served on the night! Pudding - amazing! Cheeses and chutneys - amazing! We all went back for breakfast the next morning... everything was wonderful. The team worked so hard to make this extra special for us... and a special mention to Sophie, who is a star! Thank you!
Although the room was small it had everything you needed in including still and sparkling bottled water! The room was a touch chilly when I arrived so when I mentioned it they immediately sorted it out and by the time I’d finished my meal and gone back up to the room it was lovely and warm. Would recommend and definitely stay here again.
Really friendly place , very welcoming even dropped us off at our party venue to save a taxi ! Good clean room which was really big and lovely breakfast on the morning . Great place in a lovely village location .
Ryan and the staff put on a wonderful buffet plentiful and delicious. The staff were very attentive,we couldn't fault the service. We would highly recommend anyone looking for a family venue to look no further.
We decided to have lunch on Sunday, ussually a treat for us. The Chequers did not disappoint. Service was courteous and prompt. Lunch was excellent, in my opinion. We all had roast beef, and was served as we requested - pink. Roasties were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the yorkshire pud crisp and delicious. Vegetables were fresh and cruchy. My husband and I had strewberry cheesecake, which was tasty but would perhaps be better served with the option of cream or ice cream. We will definitely go again
We came this week for a meal, to try out the newly refurbished pub. Refurb nice, but food was bland, and the menu choice was poor! Nothing other than fried food. The service was also below average. The pudding selection was also very disappointing. Will not be returning any time soon.
We rocked up here on a Friday afternoon as part of a weekend break having booked on line. On arival the guy behind the bar looked a bit surprised to see two travellers with bags, we presented the booking comfirmation and he said that the joinyt had bee closed for three months, and that the current regime had only moved in that week and opened for business for the first time that morning. However the rooms were available and although they knew nothing of the booking it was honoured and at the price shown on the booking website. The place had plainly been refurbished, and the food was of a high standard and plenty of it. Overall considering the shaky start which was not of their making we were very pleased and found the whole experience value for money and realxing. We would…
The meal I had was excellent. However, the building and decoration is simply grubby and in some cases dirty. I came hear a few years ago and the 'place' had a different 'feel'. Then it felt like a nice smart place to go and have a drink and a meal. Now it feels like a run down village pub with locals propping up the bar and fights breaking out. The floors are dirty and an example of the 'neglect' is the pass door into the kitchen. (See the photos) Furniture old and tatty. The toilets (gents) has not seen a cleaner for ages. A lick of paint will be a start. 3 stars because of the great food or would have been 1 star!
So myself and two friends visited this location after a football day to forest green, What a gem a lovely sunny evening. Excellent service quality food and very friendly locals. Rooms were very comfortable, A freshly cooked breakfast before back up north. A lovely location see you next season and good luck for the future.
