First time here Beautiful location Adequate car park We were in room 4 which sadly overlooked the smokers outside front door so closed window lovely room and comfy bed if a bit small The bathroom had seen better days...probably in 1960. We had to make an appointment with the hot water which arrived eventually and there appeared to be something black and nasty in the bath plug hole The staff were kind attentive willing and evidently hard worked The restaurant has loyal and enthusiastic following from early evening Beer was good. Otter and Mad Goose in fine form For a Saturday night they appeared to have run out of a number of featured dishes Only 2 fish pie left and two mussels and this at only 6.30pm. Odd I thought By title the puddings did not inspire but they may have…
My wife and I visited the pub on two consecutive Saturdays and both very much enjoyed our meals each time. The staff were friendly and attentive without being over zealous. The only criticism I could make was that on our second visit there happened to be a couple of families with young children in the bar area who had a little difficulty controlling their offspring, who took to running through the restaurant area, irritating me and getting in the way of waiting staff. Getting back to the meals, I would thoroughly recommend the rump steak 10/10
We stayed at Chequers Inn when we attended our friends wedding in Fladbury. On first impressions is appears a lovely village pub with rooms. Our room had a large four poster bed and balcony with chairs, so some of our friends stayed with us for a drink. One of the chairs broke causing our friend a back injury and although the chair was removed, there was little apology from the staff for the incident. Back to the room- it was large and spacious but the bed was only a double, the wardrobe, very cramped, only one bedside table and light, luggage rack was broken and only one chair to sit on. The kettle was cracked with the wires exposed- bit of an electrical risk, tea bags on a plate- uncovered, should be in an airtight pot. The bathroom needed redecorating- very tatty and we had…
My wife and I stayed at a B&B across the street from this place and our hosts at the B&B recommended it (see my review of this great little B&B - Avon Reflections -_on TripAdviser also) so, although the pub didn't look very enticing from the outside, we thought we'd give it a try. So glad we did! Ok, so the bar area was a little uninviting - gave the impression of a regular "drinking" bar - and the dining room was spartan to say the least (possibly because we were the only ones in there?). Nevertheless, a young chap came up and told us he'd be our waiter (a bit surprising really because he seemed to be servicing the bar as well). Turned out that, because we went over on a Monday evening we were lucky enough to find a "Monday Special" on the board - 3-course dinner for £12…
We travelled to see our parents and take them for Sunday lunch - leaving the choice of pub to them and their local knowledge. The views around the Chequers Inn are stunning and a meal outside would have been nice - British weather allowing! We ate in the conservatory and all had the roast dinner. Well cooked, quality meat, plenty of vegetables, home made yorkshires and gravy - just what you want. Having rested for a bit we indulged in desert. Worth seeking them out. We will have no hesitation to return.
Had lunch on Thursday. The dining area is totally lacking in any atmosphere, almost like a waiting room, which it was. The service is slow and the staff a little non tentative, and lacking any welcome or friendly hello. The food is wonderful I had a pink beef with horseradish wrap fabulous. Such a shame as you remember the atmosphere the welcome and the service long after the taste has gone from you're pallet.
Me and my husband had our wedding meal and reception here and it was amazing. The manageress and manager especially went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for us. The chequers team could not of tried any harder than they did. The food was absolutely spot on and all the meals came out hot and lots of it (the roast potatoes were to die for) I would recommend anyone thinking of having there wedding reception here to definitely book. Thanks to the chequers Inn we had a perfect wedding that was everything we hoped for.
Lovely lovely tasty food, most excellent service , a great atmosphere, you helped make my daughters wedding a perfect day, cannot recommend you highly enough. It's a great place for a special event with tasty food. x
Evening meal at The Chequers was excellent. Lovely menu particularly for those who love fish, but Barnsley Chop was also really delicious. As the waitress explained, there was a fair but not excessive wait for the food since everything is cooked from fresh. Dining room decor slightly dated - tired but service and food very good indeed..
Room clean and clean linen and towels. En suite tired and toilet stained, shower wasnt hot. Brillaint attentive staff and food amazing I had whitebait starter and mains was rib eye steak with chunky chips , done to perfection.
