The Clowance Estate hotel garners high marks for its welcoming ambiance and festive live entertainment, nestled in a central location ideal for exploring Cornwall. Guests have called out the accommodating staff and the spotless lodges, although the restaurant service can sometimes lag. The spacious rooms are comfortable but might benefit from better soundproofing and updates. While the restaurant's prices are considered steep by some, the luxurious amenities, particularly the hot tubs and swimming facilities, are often a highlight for many travelers.

We had a lovely time, although its a fair distance to travel to from our home so it would be better for a weekly stay rather than just a short stay but I would highly recommend anyone go.

It was a lovely area, lots of amenities and our chalet had wi-fi (a first for us at Seasons Resorts) which was perfect if you didn't need to go places.

The only drawback for us was that currently there are no disabled access to the pool. Perhaps the management team could consider adding a hoist facility (most pools have a chair that you lower/raise to take the disabled user into/out of the pool via like a crank handle). I was really looking forward to getting into a pool but without a hoist, meant that a facility was not available to me. Hopefully this can be rectified for the future.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, mainly because of my allergies although I was assured that the chefs could cater for my needs, this was only a short break so time was taken up with exploring the area as much as we could rather than other aspects.

We treated our daughter to the spa facilities and she really enjoyed her visit and her pampering and says she recommends the facilities, the staff were excellent and knowledgeable.

The chalet was nice and spacious, had a lovely view over the golf course, was disabled friendly and easy to access from either the lounge, the bedroom or the front door. All the features worked and there were no issues.apart from the shower which went cold quite quickly but this was rectified.

Although there were two TV's, only one was usable via the remote control and so we swapped them over. It might be useful for the technical team to double check these items before the chalets are ticked off as ready.

The only downside was that the outer community area could have been cleaner, as there were lots of cobwebs so perhaps the management could raise this with the cleaning manager for further consideration within the cleaning schedule.

There were children play areas which were adequate although it might be an idea for those responsible for that area in the reception upstairs to double check that all the pencils are usable and that all the play items are complete.

Wow what a fantastic holiday we had!
Staff were attentive, kind and always gave us smiles. Apartment spotless, elements were dated however everything was clean and working so we really weren't worried about the furniture etc Sofa's were comfortable and we slept very well on the beds (pure white crisp cotton sheets) We were happy with bathroom there were lots of fluffy white towels available. Gorgeous views from the large balcony and lots of open space to kick a ball about etc.
We appreciated spotting all of the birds and wildlife and feeding the ducks was a treat along with bat watching on our evening walks.
We had mixed weather so using the pool, tennis courts etc was great, although it was a peak week we managed to swim every day using the booking process, we really enjoyed hearing music whilst in the pool too.
The restaurant is stunning with a relaxed atmosphere, again easy to book a table with wonderfully helpful staff, we also had some fantastic entertainment. The food was excellent quality, a simple menu that works well and catered for my many allergies which gave me confidence to enjoy my meal.
When using the leisure facilities I noticed a leaflet with an offer within the spa for a bespoke treatment, I booked a slot straight away, it was so relaxing and a very reasonable price, well worth the visit. Again spotlessly clean, gorgeous products and done by a lovely lady who was friendly and very knowledgeable.
To sum up we would shruggle to think of ways to improve our experience, it was outstanding 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 with excellent customer service and communication throughout. The staff seemed totally committed to their roles. Perfect location, quiet and central for many places.
We will definitely return again, our son rates Clowance as one of the best places we have stayed!
Well done all.

We have visited Clowance House regularly since early 2000, but until last week had not been there for about 4 years as we used a Seasons overseas venue.

We have always loved Clowance for its location, enjoying Clowance amenities where you always feel welcomed by the staff, the surroundings and quietness, and easy access across Cornwall.

Our visit this month showed how much hard work Seasons has put into Clowance and across the estate with more luxury lodges, much improved reception, pool area and restaurant. They are doing more, and is often the case time and resources have constrained all the improvements they want to do e.g Golf Views which are looking tired; if only they could blitz the decorating in a week.

We stayed in the A frame, and learned from the workmen they have decorated most if not all of them and they look good, are comfortable and warm. The hot tub was a bonus, and we were out in it when it was dark, cold and blowing a hoolie.👍😀 - Brilliant

There are many new luxury lodges and they look great, and the emphasis is luxury.

There is WiFi, but not for streaming - great progress given Cornwall is not looked after by the telecommunications companies.

The golf course is looking neglected, so some most investment would help it. It is not trying to be a top golf course, but it does have challenging holes, and importantly it is about chilling when you play. It also happens to enable a good family walk along the edges, so long as you’re mindful of other golfers playing.

Get yourself there as you won’t be disappointed. I have seen other reviews which talks of the tiredness of some properties, but genuinely don’t let them out you off as development has been impressive.

Dear Dave_B-Harrogate. Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us at Clowance, nice to see you choose to come back to us after 4 years and noticed all the hard work we have and are putting in to make our beautiful resort even better. Regarding the Golf course we are working on getting this up to a better standard as the gentleman who run it before has left so now we as a resort have taken over the running of this, and are working hard to get this up to a playable standard.

The golf ,driving range advertised on the RCI website attracted us to come into this resort. Instead we have been mislead and given the wrong information. The golf and driving range is not functional /doesn't exist. The apartment is very basic, carpet was torn and stained. On RCI website check in time 4pm but on our arrival we were told 5pm. RCI website check out time 10 am. We received a text for the Seasons Members check out time 10 am and RCI members 9 am. ( RCI members treated differently) During our stay our bed linens and towels has not been changed and there were no cleaners. The utility bill was £55 for a week. As a couple who hardly used any electricity and water it seem like a daylight robbery. ( Our son came and joined us for 1 day ...he hardly used water nor electricity) We received a phone call from a Rep who informed us that if we wanted to get our money back for the utility bill we were asked to go and have a meeting with her. At this current climate we decided not to. Standards here didn't meet those we have been to from RCI. The final straw...we went to the restaurant on their Friday Night Fish and Chips Night. They served uncooked battered fish !!! the fish was frozen ….

We have been owners for 19 years but haven’t visited for 8 years, preferring to holiday abroad. When we don’t go family and friends use the week instead. Last year my brother went and he had a lot of grumbles so we thought we should go this year.
We have a patio home that are only for owners and those in the exchange scheme. They are not advertised and it is very clear why. It is like going back to the 1980s. It is tired, neglected, the mattresses are awful, dreadful lamp shades - one of which was missing and one had cobwebs hanging off it. When we turned the oven on at the wall socket two of the hob rings came on despite being turned off. We went to a sales pitch, only because we were keen to hear what plans there are. In the Seasons magazine last year it stated that the patio homes would be refurbished next. When I emailed for more information the response was vague and woolly. Now of course, COVID is the excuse when I would have thought it would be the ideal time to do a refurbishment. My fear is it will just be superficial like painting the balcony. It is very clear that Clowance want to distance themselves from the timeshare tag and it’s all about fractional ownership plus the vast sums charged for lodges which I think we were meant to be impressed by. Personally I would never spend that kind of money holidaying in the U.K in self catering accommodation. I couldn’t care less about hot tubs, most of which aren’t remotely private. The swimming pool looked nice. I don’t think the restaurant knows what it wants to be decor-wise and was basic, overpriced leisure centre cafe food. Staff there were lovely and clearly working hard. We were told “8 mill” had been spent. Again, I think we were meant to be impressed. The receptionist never once acknowledged us when we went in. Clowance places a lot of importance on the grounds and the setting but even these were looking tired. There is no colour anywhere, the golf course has weeds in the bunkers and the ‘club house’ is a joke. Bins have been placed opposite the accommodation rather than out the way so that’s what you look out on. There is no attention to detail and things that have been done like wood edging round the car park look cheap and botched. All that said, we had a great week and spent as little time as possible in the accommodation, walking and eating out. Pub in the village was great as was the Indian in Camborne.

Seven night stay in lodge 11 St Ives three bedroom lodge. Gorgeous estate with friendly staff.
The grounds are immaculate and lovely to walk around. The spa has a small gym / pool and hot tub. I used the gym daily and booking is required for your daily one hour slot. Spa treatments available six days per week.
The lodge was very warm and heating would be adequate for even the coldest winter day. Top tip the heater in the lodge lounge is hidden behind the sofa. The cutlery draw is below the hob in a hidden pull out drawer within the pan drawer. Take your own champagne flutes ( only wine glasses and tumblers ) / small pan ( only large pans ) and take your own potato peeler ( hideous peeler ) .
Washer / dryer is very handy for drying towels after you use the hot tub.
Lovely clean white bedding / towels. Nice decor throughout.
Book with confidence this is a fabulous estate.

I emailed Clowance on the 13th July 2021 and have heard nothing. I emailed Membership Services on the 28th July and still not heard anything - hense this review.

This is what I sent to them:-

We have returned from a fabulous 2 weeks in Cornwall staying at Clowance.

We have not been down to Clowance for nearly 10 years since changing over to Seasons from being owners there. I think it was A Frame Lodge 20, sleep 6, that we owned.

You emailed me saying that you genuinely care about our experience and appreciated our feedback. I ask that you ensure that this email finds its way to the relevant manager at Seasons as well.

Pros

The grounds and main building had been kept to a good standard. The Bulken and A Frames looked amazing.

All of the staff without exception were lovely. Special mention for the cleaner when we arrived who helped us find Golf View 74 also , Rachel and the Bar/Restaurant Manager

Very nice gesture when we arrived to find a voucher for £50 and bottle of wine due to the delay in the refurbishment of the Golf View

Cons

It quickly became apparent that the Golf View area was the poor relation

The road lights only worked up to the end of Bulken Lodges. Pitch black thereafter to the Forest View. I did report this early in the holiday

Many pot holes on Forest View road. Just waiting for someone to fall especially in the dark

Lack of a blind in the hall of lodge 74. The light outside shone in all night making the lodge very light and disrupting sleep unless we shut the bedroom door which we prefer not to do as we like air in the room

The gutter leaked severely when it rained right by the front door. The only way to get in the door in the rain was to get drenched

Tiles were missing on the steps outside

Bit of a pain that we had to pay to do our laundry. Surely as Golf View is not to the same standard as the rest of the estate, I would therefore have thought Clowance would provide the laundry free of charge

The hot tap in the bathroom leaked leaving a blue stain in the sink

The grouting around the sink was disgusting. I could not bring myself to clean my teeth in the there as it was so grimy. The silly thing was that it was a 10 minute job to replace the area of grouting

We spoke to other guests who like us had changed from being owners to Seasons and they too found themselves in Golf View. We understand that the better accommodation is made available to those booking through such companies as Hoeseasons and Luxury Lodges etc.

It appears to us that Seasons have used our money to upgrade the resort but only allowing us to stay in the substandard accommodation of Golf View. We owned a sleep 6 and were assured that we would have similar when we returned but had to settle for a sleep 4. This was even though we booked well in advance and kept phoning to see if there had been any cancellation. Other guests had had similar experience. What made it even more galling was that we saw what looked like a few lodges unoccupied with no sign refurbishment occurring, just not booked.

Please do not blame Covid

We stayed in the golf view accomodation for a week and were aware beforehand these are maybe in need of refurbishment based on previous reviews .

When we arrived we were happily surprised that it was not as bad a reports suggested. Sofas and beds seemed fairly new along with curtains and blinds. Bathrooms and kitchen were clearly due replacement. The wardrobes were pretty bad as heavy glass sliding doors that struggled to slide across. I am not sure if some have been refurbished with soft furnishing and others not?

The Clowance estate is a lovely base to use for places like St Ives, Lands End and Falmouth. We found the pool really useful to come back to in the afternoon for the kids as well as the gym. As per previous reviews you have to book the times first thing in the morning to avoid disappointment.

We ate at the restaurant on the first night as had booked prior to travelling. A nice surprise was a £50 voucher and bottle of wine due to the ongoing refurbishment of accomodation units. The food was lovely and we found the service excellent as it was whenever we visited the bar area.

The main disappointments were similar to previous reviews.

WiFi went down on the first evening and did not come back on until the day before we went home. Although we don't come away to sit on WiFi we felt there was no apologies for this just a case of its happened so nothing we can do. This also meant the phone didn't work so we had to walk to the reception every morning first thing to book swimming. There is also little to no reception for mobile phones so with no WiFi for nearly a week it was frustrating.

When we arrived at about 4.30pm after a 7 hour car journey there was a note on our door saying the room was being prepared so do not enter. Bearing in mind we were advised on the way by text that we could check in at 4pm this was not great. We went to the cafe/restaurant and had a drink then went back over an hour later thinking this was plenty being it was now 5.30pm but still had to wait another 15 mins. There was another family in a similar situation and we felt if the rooms were not ready then we could have been advised prior to arrival.

In our accomodation every time you turned on a bathroom or kitchen tap the boiler made an awful noise. As this was right next to our children's bedroom we advised reception the first morning. The maintenance staff arrived immediately which was great but then said they couldn't do anything on a Sunday but would ask for it to be sorted. We never heard anything further either from reception or maintenance . We were extremely disappointed with this lack of service.

Finally being a keen golfer I was looking forward to playing as Clowance advertises a golf course. I was really disappointed to find what was classed as a golf course. I am not sure this could be classed as a golf course at all in my opinion.

In summary we enjoyed exploring Cornwall and using Clowance as a base but not sure we would choose to stay at Clowance again.

If you love building sites and loud banging all day/ evening this is the place for you.
If you love an invasion of privacy this is perfect.
The grounds of Clowance is beautiful but the lodge itself is set on a building site, woken up every morning (even a Sunday) at 8:30 to smashing of tiles and builders walking under our windows non stop.
Definitely can not use the hot tub with your children without being looked at from all angles.
Manager came to see us as requested and stated “other holiday makers have spent allot more that you to be here”
Offered us a free meal but we declined.
If you want a relaxing serene lodge this isn’t it.

Dear Carlyolivia, sorry to read that you did not enjoy your expereience with us. As you are aware we are in the middle of a massive refurbishment at the moment and as we are busy all year round we cannot close during the 'out of season' months. We try to be as courteous to our guests during this as we know it's not ideal, but unfortunatly it's neccessary to ge the site up to where we want it. We hope that all our guests understand that, but we understand if you do not wish to return. Thank you.
