A friend and I picked a soggy day to cycle up Bodmin Moor, and despite the climb to the highest inn in Cornwall, it was entirely worth it. The moors were shrouded in thick mist as they are high enough to be literally up in the clouds, but on clear bright days the view (we’re told) is spectacular and takes...

Driving towards Wheal Tor was a treat, plenty of great views in every direction. We thought we were going to be in for a treat. However, upon arriving, the hotel reception appeared extremely tatty, run down and unclean. Add to this mix a member of staff greeting us whose hygiene was apparently non existent, things started to go very downhill....

The first room we were given (room :2)had an old sign on a ground floor window that was impossible to lock. It read 'awaiting repair please do not Open/ close'! This basically meant that the ground floor room was draughty not to mention completely insecure. We were given another room (1) where are you could either have a Luke warm...

Stayed in one of the hobbit houses with my 2 boys, basic but cosy. The kids loved it. The surrounding area is stunning. Staff we're helpful & friendly. Had a meal in the pub onsite which was proper home cooked comfort food - I'd recommend the cow pie. It's a unique place in a great location, well worth a visit....

The owners have no clue as to what customer service entails. I phoned them to explain that me and my two boys would be arriving around 23:00 to which I was informed "no worries somebody will be on the bar and they will show you to the room, if not, phone the number I was talking on, and they would...

each hobbit house is cleaned prior to each guests and has freshly laundered sheets ( provided by the Cornish linen co) , last check in is 9pm which is clearly stated , but we fully understand that some guests may be late , we did explain to you there would be an extra charge if you arrived after 11pm ,...

Stayed here for one night on the 10th of April. The Owner was busy preparing for a wedding which was happening that weekend. However, he made time for us and made us feel very welcome. He showed us to a lovely cosy room which had a four poster bed with ensuite bathroom. Bed was comfy and we were supplied with...

If you own a multi terrain vehicle or a tractor I would recommend for a drink. I attended a wedding and the place was nice. Unfortunately the long approach road has more pot holes than the road into Mosul. If you have a low vehicle avoid the place. The location and setting is wonderful but sadly let down

We walked past the location several years ago and made a mental note that this could be a place worth staying at. The location, nearly at the summit of Caradon Hill is certainly superb, but. Had a look at the hotel website before booking through TripAdvisor/booking.com - just wish we'd read the reviews! There seem to be two distinct 'experiences'...

MUSICIANS - DON'T PLAY HERE! Thoroughly mucked about by these cowboys. Was asked to play a private function several weeks ago. Just checked the timings and they cancelled it with approx. 5 hours notice. Lovely place on the moors so suspect it will be taken over soon by someone who knows what they are doing. Until then, AVOID.
