My husband and I stayed at Ivy house in August for a much needed break after months apart due to Covid. It is well situated, elevated above St Austell with wonderful views of St Austell town and beyond. The house and gardens are well maintained by James the host, who is friendly and discreet. Our room was spacious and airy with views onto the garden. It was everything that we needed. We chose to relax in the beautiful garden on our return each day with a cup of tea (on offer in our room), whilst we planned the following day. Ivy house is a perfect base for visiting many local gardens, beaches and towns, which are all close by. We were spoilt for restaurants and James was happy to give us recommendations and help us book. The breakfast was exceptional and I would have loved to have stolen James’ recipe for his Bircher muesli, it was delicious! We can both highly recommend James and Ivy house, and would not hesitate in returning.

Had a fabulous long weekend stay at Ivy House and James was a wonderful host. The breakfast is next to none. This was my second stay here and equally matched the first. Would recommend to everyone. Charlestown is easily reachable and well worth seeing and some beautiful restaurants.

We booked after seeing the previous good reviews on TripAdvisor and therefore felt compelled to write a review ourselves. Our first impressions of Ivy House were excellent as the location is on a hill which gives a great view looking back over St Austell and the front of the property contains a quite simply incredible garden, and we thought that anybody who takes that much pride on the exterior of a property would surely have an attention to detail and a genuine love for the property. This was indeed the case as the rooms were exceptionally clean and nicely decorated, the shower in our room as well was exceptionally good and better than some 4 star hotels that we have visited. James was a gracious and knowledgeable host who can cook an excellent breakfast. It was just a shame that we were only here for 2 days. But saying that, I'm sure we will come back as it's a beautiful part of the country and Ivy House is a great place and starting point for your adventures around Cornwall. We throughly recommend 👌

Unfortunately I was unable to make use of my booking because someone drove into my car and wrote it off. After negotiation the manager kindly offered to try to relet the room and we came to an agreement. Much appreciated thank you at a very difficult time. One day I look forward to visiting for real.

5 stars: We stayed for six nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Ivy House is in an excellent location, very close to the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Our rooms were very comfortable and the property is exceptionally clean and very tastefully decorated, the gardens a sight to behold. James is very friendly and incredibly accommodating, he has a great knowledge of the local area and, indeed, the county. We will definitely visit again, a truly sublime experience.
