We visited Skytop for a milestone birthday celebration with 21 people. This was the third visit for this group so we love what Skytop offers - family accommodations, several activities, the ability to eat together.

We have been at Skytop three times in January/February - one time the property was covered in snow, one time we experienced a tornado and power outage and this time we had an ice storm. The resort was able to entertain and feed us in all of these scenarios.

We always stay in the cottages which each are two sets of two connecting rooms. It really works for families of up to 6.

This trip we went tubing in the pouring rain and everyone had a ball. Towards the end of our time on the hill they shut down one of the two tracks because it was getting dangerously slippery. The staff was very kind to be out in the rain to run the lift. It costs $10 per person and you have to fill out a lengthy release of claims form for each participant so allow time to do that. Frustratingly, despite being the only participants for tubing, the staff asked me not to park in the tubing parking lot but instead park at the ski lift parking lot (which is not far but it was pouring). I feel like this is evidence of an overall theme I have about our stay: there is not a service mindset at the resort. Staff is friendly but i one expressed any inclination to be attentive or proactive. This was wildly apparent in the main dining room where each dinner took almost 3 hours. Again, the staff is kind and friendly but no one seems to be hustling or motivated to create a positive experience.

Skytop has the right elements - it just needs the right management to motivate staff to enhance the service to align with the grandeur of the property.

I cannot believe I spent so many years not knowing about Skytop. We arrived late and were warmly greeted by Bradley. He patiently provided all the details about the available restaurants & activities. The Bellman pointed out the observation deck on the top floor, which has neat historical significance related to World War 2. Being a city dweller I was blown away by the quiet and all the stars. Their safety protocols in the wake of Covid-19 were very reassuring and the staff adheres to them consistently. Since the resort has so much space we felt it was easy to social distance. We took advantage of the kayak and bike rentals on our first day and loved exploring from these two perspectives. The second day we enjoyed time by the pristine outdoor pool and a hike to Indian Ladder falls. The trails are SO well maintained and are reserved exclusively for guests and residents of Skytop. We spent some time at nearby Bushkill Falls which turned out to be uncomfortably crowded, in retrospect we should have just stayed on property for our whole vacation. Overall it was the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. I cannot wait to return to see what the resort looks like during the Autumn with the leaves changing, and at Christmas with the decorations. You can tell that the people who work here really care about this place and take great pride in what they do.

My husband and I went to the lodge for a four-night COVID safe mini-break. We were initially put into a room that was very small and dated, but when we complained the staff gave us a tour of other rooms and put us up in a better room at no cost. Every staff member that I interacted with was amazing, and I kind of want to be friends with them in real life. On the down side, the food left something to be desired, perhaps because we are vegetarians we didn’t experience their good options, but apart from the first night the food was consistently terrible and extremely over priced for what it was. We left early just because we were hungry and had been for three days—but management refunded us for the last day of food and the last nights stay. So, again, the staff and customer service makes up for the shortcomings. As a young vegetarian couple looking for excitement, this was not our cup of tea—we were bored. But I could see it being a great fit for families or older folks looking to chill on rocking chairs. Also, the pool is fantastic.

We came here to spend time with our three teenagers for the weekend. We knew that Camelback was 30 minutes away, we decided to stay at Skytop to have great food and lodging after a long day of skiing. Upon check-in, the lodge was beautifully decorated with Christmas and the staff were very accomodating. Camo was our "bellhop" and was extremely nice and polite. Our adjoining rooms were on the fourth floor and extremely small with slanted ceilings and a musty smell. The rooms were the size of my bathroom at home. To be honest, we usually stay at 5 star resorts, but given the reviews and the prices, we decided to give it a chance. The prices do not match what you are given in return. We complained and were immediately moved to a cottage which was better, however, also outdated with stains on the carpets and towels that were tattered. The bathrooms were updated and the shower was fantastic. Five star for that! We ate at the Windsor and was also disappointed. With NYC pricing, we expected much more than a 3 star meal. When we explored the lodge after dinner, we discovered an outdated pool, game room, work out room and the "tap room" which was like a dungeon smelling like a pool. Skytop's grounds are amazing. It seems that the inside needs a facelift in addition to a new general management to keep up with the changing culture. It is a shame that such a beautiful place has not aged well. Given the right management and vision, I am sure this historical place might have a chance.

Expensive with very little to show for the cost. They charge a 22% facility fee so you can empty your own garbage, make your bed, call for clean towels. Rooms are dark and the furniture can best be described as shabby chic. In the Windsor dining room the service was perfect, unfortunately you cannot get your $30.00 steak grilled as requested. The excuse always begins with "Covid" . Enough with the covid excuse. It has been 12+ months . For a 4 diamond resort you could do much better.

We went last week from Sunday to Wednesday and were in awe of the magnificent grounds. We stayed in the lodge in a premier room overlooking the gardens and it was a comfortable size. Covid precautions are taken very seriously - we saw high frequency touch points frequently cleaned and everyone inside, guests and staff, were masked (except while dining) and kept social distance. We went on hikes with Rick, the nature guide who is very knowledgeable and because we were there during and right after hurricane Isaias the waterfalls were incredible. We also enjoyed biking and kayaking on the beautiful lake. There is an adventure center at which we did axe throwing with Steve which was a lot of fun. Others were discussing how challenging the ropes/obstacle course was. All the staff we encountered were friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. A shout out to Alex at the front desk, to Daniel, Tim and Brittany and to the manager (sorry, didn't get his name) who came out front to show us pics on his phone of the waterfalls after the storm. We also appreciated being allowed to check out late, without a fee, as our room was not needed the next day. A trip to the observation tower is recommended as you can see quite a distance and at sunset it is beautiful. We would have appreciated it even more if there had been a description of what we were looking toward. Another suggestion is there should be more recommendations (including off property) of what guests can do when the weather is not conducive to outdoor activities. We have been strongly recommending Skytop to our friends and would return.

We just came back from staying at Skytop Lodge for 2 nights over New Years eve. We have stayed here before, during the week in August, and enjoyed that stay a lot. This one - not so much.

I would highly recommend not coming here during a peak times like NYE for instance, or a long weekend that a lot of people have off. The place was overrun by little kids. You might envision reading a book in the lobby next to a roaring fire, but the reality is multiple crying babies in strollers and toddlers and young kids running back and forth screaming.

The walls in the main lodge are paper thin (last time we stayed in one of the cabins not the lodge). On one side we had people blaring their music and the other side we had a family where the kids were going completely apesh*t. We called to complain about the noise from the people blaring their music. When the security guard came up, the woman who answered the door was so belligerent (unfortunately the walls were so thin I could hear the whole conversation)- and she asked the security guard (who didnt sound like he was more than 18) if he thought their music was too loud and he said "no." Oh well- I guess that's that. He should have said "no, but we've had a complaint, so you have to turn it down." Bad customer service IMO.

So if you want a place where you can blare your music with no consideration for your neighbors or somewhere you can let your kids run up and down the hall at 7am, this is the place for you. You can do that here, because there will be absolutely no consequences.

Overall, Skytop is a nice place to spend a weekend with family. This being said, there are some complaints.
Dinner service in the main dining room took a very long time. What’s worse is that the children and the adults were served at the same time when the kids ordered about 25 minutes before as they were very hungry and getting cranky. The wait staff were kind about it and the food was good, but bad service can ruin a meal.
In addition, the snow tubing is always a disappointment. The tube “lift” isn’t always operating. How can one expect little kids to hike all the way up the big hill carrying a tube? It could easily be improved.
Also, if you’re looking to go skiing, then it’s a good idea to call ahead. The weekend that we went, there was a solid six inches of snow, and the skiing was not open. Very disappointing.
There used to be a good lunch buffet in the main dining room for those who just want a quick lunch of soup and a sandwich. This year though, it was taken away. That was not a good move. They replaced it with a mediocre menu of sandwiches, wraps and soups.
Given all of this, there are also some good things about Skytop. The rooms are nice and clean. The breakfast is good. There are some entertaining activities after dinner (cash bingo, a juggler etc.) The ropes course is a great activity for anyone who loves adventure. Skeet shooting is a fun thing to try.
In conclusion, Skytop has lots of pros but also lots of cons. Overall, though, it is a pretty good place to go and have a good time with friends or family.

In place of our originally planned trip to Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic, we decided to plan a last minute trip to the Skytop Lodge in the Poconos. It’s like the next best thing, right? All kidding aside, we were happy to be able to travel somewhere and feel somewhat comfortable in the COVID environment. We could drive in a reasonable time, restaurants were at a 25% capacity and reservations were required, and there were miles of trails to hike in solitude.

We requested an early check in if available and arrived at 2pm, an hour before check in to find our room ready to go. We decided on the Deluxe King Inn Room. This is down the property from the main lodge, around a 7 minute walk. These rooms are located where the Golf Pro Shop is as well as the Lakeside Restaurant. We were a bit turned off at the amount of people in the area, but were told that there was a golf tournament and they should be leaving shortly. Sure enough, an hour or two later and it was empty.

The food was better than we expected it was going to be.  We ate dinner at the Windsor Restaurant the first night. We both had the filet with potatoes and carrots. It had an Almond and Bacon dust on top and it was delicious. The second night was Lakeside Restaurant. I had Pistachio crusted Swordfish and my wife had Crab Cakes. We were both a bit full from the complimentary Cookies and Lemonade offered at 4pm each day, but managed to enjoy it anyway.  We like to eat!

The next morning we woke up and had a buffet breakfast at Windsor. It was our first experience with a COVID buffet.  They show you the food which is all behind glass, and will fill up your plate for you.  This is something we are not a fan of that much as we like to pick our food.  We like the crispy Bacon!!! We then went back to our room and loaded up for the hiking.  Had a 25lb camera bag with my gear.

14 miles of trails, climbing, and waterfalls, we were back and exhausted. It was nice to see that the trails were clearly marked and obvious in which direction to go.  The downside is after all that mileage, I hardly saw any animals or birds to photograph.  Pretty disappointing :(

Overall the property grounds and the staff were great. A few things that can be improved are: communication between the staff, being honest about the size of the rooms, and enforcing social distancing with large groups of 10+. The rooms were very small but they had a nice antique look. The pool is overcrowded with children running around and accidentally splashing guests. There was also conflicting information given by the concierge and the front desk about the boating & canoeing schedule as well as the opening of the lake beach on Friday. Some of the places that need social distancing enforced are the fire pits for campfire roasting and the pool area including the long line for pool. We also did not expect to pay additional for most of the activities. Other than that, the resort staff was friendly and welcoming. The 5500 acres included many hiking trails, a gorgeous, lake, golfing, and a few waterfalls. A great outdoor resort with plenty to do. A great getaway with nature.

Downhill or cross-country? My family prefers downhill, and uses these three largest/greatest vertical drop resorts in eastern PA: Elk (53 miles one way), Blue (44 miles ow), Camelback (17 miles ow). There are a number of smaller family friendly ski places in the area as well, such as Jack Frost (33 miles ow). These resorts all make snow for their trails. I believe cross-country skiing is available on the Skytop property, conditions allowing (natural snow).
