The Penn Stroud offers an excellent combination of features for the weary traveller on their way elsewhere, and someone looking for a short getaway in the mountains. First the location - located only a minute or so from the highway, its convenient, and at the same time offers ample parking and sits in the middle of a charming street of shops, restaurants, and bars - plenty to choose from for your dinner. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They were able to help us with a crib, extra bedding, advice on a pharmacy, all with a smile. The rooms were plenty big, our family of 4 (Parents, Teen, Toddler) were able to stay out from each others hair and were quite comfortable. The shower was large, modern, and wonderful. The breakfast provided was basic (baked goods, instant oatmeal, cereals and juice...). Heartier fare like hard boiled eggs or any sort of sausage were not to be found... but still, a light breakfast and cup of coffee were good enough for my family. The one down side I will note is that our room faced the street, across which was an Irish bar that had a ROCKING party going until around 3am. It was a Saturday night, but I was unable to sleep for the thumping music and drunks in the street screaming till the wee hours... this of course is NOT the fault of the hotel, but if you are a light sleeper and staying for a Saturday night, consider trying to get a room with less of a view, but hopefully a better chance of sleep. …

We stayed here during the week for a few nights. Our room was clean, staff friendly and location was great. Right on main street in center area. Easily can walk everywhere for food, drinks, shopping etc. Easy and close access to I-80 to travel places. Breakfast was a high end continental and plenty to eat.

I stayed here from 2/23/23-2/25/23. The first night, there was some noise from the bar across the street but this ended before midnight and my family and I were able to get a decent night's sleep. The second night, the music from the bar across the street was extremely loud with heavy bass, I have never heard Brittany Spears or Miley Cyrus with such clarity at 1:30AM since finishing school. I called the front desk to complain about the noise, apparently the room I was staying in is situated in such a special way that I was the only person in the entire hotel who was complaining about the noise... Eventually the police came and broke up the party but there were still patrons screaming and yelling until 3:00AM. I heard someone yell out of one of the buildings nearby to a patron to go home, the neighbor received an unpleasant response. All in all, I received about four hours of sleep the second night.…

If you are looking for a place to get a good night’s sleep, this is not the hotel for you. After two nights in a row of being woken up by very loud music (that was playing for hours), I went downstairs to front desk a little before 1AM to ask if there was a club across the street. The attendant said there was indeed a bar across the street and it closes at 1AM. Given that was in a few minutes to 1AM and we were checking out the next day, I just went back to my room. However, there was music, large crowds of people outside, and cars honking until 2AM. I found out Siamsa Irish Pub is directly across the street. My husband and I have been lying awake in bed for hours. Thankfully we took the kids skiing and they’ve been passed out. Otherwise, it would be even more of a nightmare with two crying kids. The room itself is modern and clean. Breakfast is standard- bagels, bread, English muffins, pastries, cereal, etc. One star is for the clean rooms and the other is for breakfast.…

Our room was very clean, most comfortable bed. Great shower. Staff was extremely friendly and very attentive. We have stayed here several times in the past for weekend getaways, never disappointed. It can get very busy on weekends with nearby skiing and yes you can hear doors closing but was very peaceful and relaxing. Location is perfect. So much in walking distance. I certainly recommend staying here. We will be back... One recommendation though: Microwaves in the room or on each floor would make a huge difference...there are 4 of them in the breakfast area but for those who have difficulty walking, that could be very difficult.

My daughter and I stayed here for a couple days. New Years day. She went skiing - I just chilled. Very nice clean hotel. Great location - right on Main Street near restaurants, shops. But I have to give kudos to the STAFF. I have stayed at many hotels etc. but the customer service was 5 stars. Polite, helpful, knowledgeable. Left behind a small orthopedic back pillow valued at $50.00 so I wasn't too happy leaving it behind. The staff got right on it - found it and returned it to me ASAP. What a pleasure. I will definitely return to this hotel. I wish more hotels had a Staff like this.

Had a great time. Rooms were spacious and comofrtable, location is ideal, parking is free, and breakfast is as-advertised. If they wanted to improve anything, it would be the breakfast, by adding some "non-carb" things. There were muffins, danish, bread, and bagels, but eggs and yougrt were only available one day.

Pros: New rooms Friendly staff Awesome location-right on Main and plenty of restaurants in walking distance Very moderate/economical price Cons: We were asked if we wanted housekeeping due to low staff and we said yes. They never came. The front desk was clueless and said maybe they just didn’t get to everyone and offered nothing else. I had to push that we were specifically asked and we wanted it and they finally offered to change our garbage and give us sheets. The thermostat was faulty and not working our first night. Also the bathroom had no heat in it bc it was significantly colder than the room. These are basic things I’d expect from a hotel, so was disappointed. They definitely need to better train their staff and emphasize customer service. But if put in a better room we’d consider coming back because of the convenience.…

Everything about this hotel was so well done. From the super absorbent towels to the bed firmness and bedding everything was super comfortable. The breakfast are was well lit overlooking the street scene which is lovely. I sat and ready book in comfort. The staff were helpful and friendly. Ample parking and the downtown has so much to do all within walking distance. Hotel well situated for day trips too!
