Detailed Reviews
My girlfriend and I travel a fair amount, and have stayed in our share of run down hotels and motels. When we took our first look at our room at the Homestead, we tried to make the most of it. We agreed that it wasn't the *worst* place we'd ever stayed. But as the evening dragged on, it became clear that we were wrong.
The start with: the positive. We ordered a King-sized room, and were assigned to a Queen. I brought this to the attention of the gentleman at the front desk and he put us in a new room: no fuss, no issues. Despite its long, drawn-out coughing and wheezing, the AC unit did not explode into an inferno of smoke and plastic shrapnel when we turned on the heat. The walls that they used to construct our room did a reasonable job of keeping out the rain.
These are the only positive points I can come up with. So onto what I will refer to as "constructive criticism".
Where to begin? The tiles in the bathroom were cracked terribly and the showerhead had all the spraying enthusiasm of a sick Labrador. The bathroom door itself just wouldn't shut--which actually might have been a safeguard against shower-related drownings. That miserable scrap of shower curtain left the bathroom floor an inch deep in soapy water after every shower, which might account for the yellow film underneath the toilet and around the bathtub.
When I called the front desk to request a sewing kit, I was greeted with the sort of befuddled confusion a sixth grader might have when asked to recite the Magna Carta in German.
The offered WiFi was a ghost. Not a weak signal--not spotty or inconsistent--completely nonexistent. We settled in to at least watch a little TV, and were only a little bit surprised to find that there was only a single channel. No matter what we did, the only thing that came in was Discovery: Investigation. Have you ever slept in a run down hotel room after watching an hour and a half of programming dedicated to crime, obsession, and violence? I do not recommend it.
And speaking of sleep, let's talk about those beds. First, our room's bed wasn't what I would call "made". I could do a better job, and I have the folding skills of a drunk mollusk. The pillows were around the size and thickness of a Triscuit cracker, and there was nothing comforting about the comforter. At twelve feet by three feet, it was the sort of blanket that could cover you toe to groin, or waist to neck--but never both at the same time.
No coffee maker, no hair dryer--and when my girlfriend went to plug hers in, she used the outlet next to the dresser, because those near the bathroom mirror had been repainted at least a hundred times, and the latest layers were bubbled and melted-looking. It didn't inspire a lot of confidence that the curtains hanging directly into the vents of the heating unit wouldn't burst into flames and fry us both alive. There was no breakfast, but why am I even complaining about that--there is no chance in seventeen hells that I would eat it. We were not, in fact, assaulted or otherwise molested during our stay at the Homestead--perhaps that is saved for repeat customers.
And after all is said and done, let me make one thing clear: if I had paid fifteen or twenty bucks for this room, you wouldn't hear me make a peep of complaint. But I paid nearly fifty dollars for this room. At fifty dollars, you can hire someone to fix the stinking cable.

First of all they are not a good price and have a pool that is drained and molded. The rooms smell like moth balls. The beds are so uncomfortable! They had roaches and let me tell you, house keeping and customer service is the worst. They cursed me and my daughter to get out cause i was ten min past check out time. I am livid about this nasty dump and will make sure they are reported. DO NOT STAY HERE!

I have read several reviews about this hotel. Unfortunately, I was in a situation where I had to get hotel rooms quite frequently & it is expensive. I had no better choice but to stay here, and I stayed several times, so my opinion isn't based off of one or two stays. The owner was always very very nice to me, but as for ANYONE and EVERYONE else.. rude. Rude, rude, rude. And absolutely nothing professional about them, whatsoever. I also experienced always being told that there were no single rooms left, and had to always pay for a double. Once, we were put in a room where the a/c didn't even cool. They had to put us in a bigger room for the same price. They never even bothered to see WHY the other a/c wasn't cooling. The hotel is very poorly maintenanced. The a/c's have probably never ever been looked at, and absolutely have not ever been replaced. The hotel does have bugs. I would leave all my things in my car, and go down each morning any grab clothes before showering. Also, room service is very poor. Im unsure of how often they wash their sheets and blankets, and when I ran out of toilet paper, or clean towels, I either had to go to the front and get it myself, or wait til the next morning at around noon for room service to bring new ones. I do not ever plan to return, and hate that I was ever in a situation where I had to stay there. The location is decent, not far from restaurants, gas stations, and grocery stores, but if you have the extra money, i'd go for another hotel in the area. There are several nicer ones. As a former reviewer said, if u just need somewhere to crash, it will do the job. Just check for bugs when you leave.

Relocating to Gaffney n rented a room. Yes, it has roaches. I bought traps n preventative measures. Now, hardly see a bug. Room service comes daily to offer to clean but I clean up my own messes. Ie.. Brought my own vacuum n cleaning products. The only problem I've had so far is with the front desk person when housekeeping forgot to bring two of my pillows back after I allowed them to clean one day. This person was very rude and discourteous! We asked for two days for my child's pillows back n ended up getting rude myself before someone brought us “a” pillow? Well, this n the phone lines are screwed up n you can hardly hear anybody on it? I have to say, if I'd had more time to relocate from out of state, I'd definitely found a more pleasant abode, but seeing as I didn't n our apartment isn't finished, it's better than being homeless with a child n the winter.. Plus, my two cats were able to relocate with me which eased the tension all around. For a 50.00 fee of course.. Plus, some drunk wondered into my room one day while housekeeping was cleaning.. That was awkward, probably explains how she forgot about my pillows? Still, never the less, it's a roof over our heads..

Ok its about the cheapest place to stay when your money is low. But if that is your case bring your roach spray because this is truly the roach motel. Everyone (staff) was very nice but my suite cases are still out on my porch until I have time to shake out everything and fumigate. Stale smelling rooms, raggedy towels, smoking burns on rough blankets. One good thing is the location. Bathroom was clean - but the roaches just put a damper on everything. I paid for one guest = not the roach family! How hard or expensive can it be to exterminate!!!!

No continental breakfast, wifi didn't work, bug invested, dirty sheets, no heat, and dirty walls. My family will never stay at this hotel again; thank goodness we were staying only for one night. I would rather have paid an extra couple of bucks to stay at the Quality Inn next door! Be mindful when making reservations at this hotel.

This hotel was run down. It was filled with the "locals" that appear to live in the hotel. Which would have been okay, but the room itself was outdated, smelly and overran with roaches.
So as long as you don't mind the roaches, this room would serve the purpose but I won't go back.
