We recently stayed here and had a lovely few days. On arrival, reception staff were friendly, efficient and helpful, as were all members of staff in the hotel. The bedroom was clean and nicely decorated with beautiful views of the surrounding area. The bathroom was again clean, sparkling and modern. We enjoyed the superb food in an idyllic dining room,...

Can't comment too much about the rooms etc, but any establishment that welcomes wet, muddy and weary hill walkers is a winner for me. We came down of the Fells looking for a drink and although we were wet and muddy we were shown great hospitality. OK so we had to sit outside as we had a dog with us...

We have just had a wonderful family get-together in this first class hotel and can highly recommend it for a relaxing get-away. We had lovely bedrooms, complete with views of fells, fields and new-born lambs. The food and service were of a very high standard and a very accomplished harpist played beautiful music each evening. The area is stunning, with...

Very lovely and relaxing. The bar is very friendly and comfortable and the breakfasts were really lovely. The wildlife and scenery is second-to-none and this us a great base for some lovely hikes. It was a wet weekend when we visited but we really enjoyed our walk around Derwent. A short drive to Keswick where I'd recommend the 'Puzzling Place'...

First visit for Sunday lunch for quite a long time. We were welcomed by the friendly and polite restaurant staff. It was busy due to it being Easter Sunday. We ordered Crispy Duck Egg with black pudding, asparagus & Hollandaise sauce, and Fish Cake with pea puree & tartare sauce for starters; Roast Beef plus trimmings, and Guinea Fowl with...

Called mid-afternoon to make a dinner reservation that same evening & got a table for two without a problem (midweek, but during School holidays). Mostly residents eating but the service was really good, very attentive, courses just at the right time. Food superb, quite fine dining (as oppose to pub food) but not trying too hard to be too fancy....

We have been coming to The Borrowdale Gates Hotel since the last century and have seen it through four different owners. We like to visit at least once a year in the different seasons. The current owners have enlarged the hotel without losing any of its character and have also added a number of ecological features. However, they have modernised...

The Hotel is situated in beautiful countryside about a quarter of a mile from the village of Grange. The staff were very helpful and gave us information about local walks and scenic routes to drive. The food was excellent an ample breakfast, dinner was superb but fairly expensive. There is no place in the village to have dinner, so unless...

We were recommended to visit here via a local Lake District Facebook page, it was my mum's 70th and we were staying nearby. We booked her for Sunday dinner, and we arrived in good time so we were shown to the lovely bar area for a drink first whilst our table was prepared. When we went to our table the...
