My wife and I were looking for a hotel within walking distance to the Bijou theater for a concert and had several choices in the area of downtown Knoxville. We have always preferred smaller boutique properties and the Oliver turned out to be one of the best we have ever stayed at. There was some construction on the street but... More

The hotel staff was most welcoming and helpful. The Oliver is a classy hotel. We loved our room facing Market Square where there is a variety of dining exeriences. The bed was very comfortable after a long day of travel. We look forward to staying at the Oliver again.

We stayed at The Oliver last night to celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary and it was a real treat in every way! It's beautiful, intimate, and in a perfect location if you want to be in downtown Knoxville! When we arrived (Sunday night) there was a problem with our reservation, which I am pretty certain that I am responsible for...... More

An acquaintance of ours had reserved A non-refundable room for 2 nights for the UT game. Because he could no longer use it, he offered it to us free of charge. I called the hotel the day of arrival to discuss the plans and make sure that we would have no issue with checking in. The front desk person on... More

Stayed here for a Wednesday & Thursday. Newly refurbished hotel in the old style. On Union Avenue in the old town, a stone's throw from Market & Gay Streets with their stores and restos. About a half hour walk from the University of Tennessee campus. Staff were super helpful. Bikes available. Nice intimate bar on premises. Craft brew place next... More

We've tried to stay here many times, but they were always sold out. Got lucky this time with a king suite. Easy phone reservation (thanks, AJ), friendly check-in (thanks, Nick and Martin), and spacious suite. Took our son and his friends to dinner at Oliver Royale (thanks, Sarah) and returned to discover the heat was out and our suite was... More

We stayed at The Oliver Hotel for 2 nights this past weekend. We were in town for a football game. The hotel was great. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was convenient to Market Square for food and drinks. Neyland Stadium was a short (~20min) walk. Would definitely stay there again.

Management response to our issues was excellent. Restored building; very nice rooms. Noise insulation from other rooms and from Market Square late night can be a problem. Staff was very pleasant. Walking distance to many restaurants.

Love staying at boutique hotels and this one does not disappoint. It looks and feels as if it may have had a glamorous past. We reserved the Oliver Suite, a corner suite, 3rd floor overlooking Market Square and Krutch Park. The room decor was as pictured on website, urban eloquent. Loved the brass fixtures and unique wood tables. Enjoyed the... More

I should start by saying that Knoxville knocked our socks off - it was so fun, beautiful and packed with wonderful bars & restaurants. The Oliver is perfectly positioned; right next to Market Square. A really stylish hotel - reception is glamorous, the Peter Kern Library "speakeasy" bar made great cocktails and the room was small but elegant. Clean and... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated in the heart of Knoxville just steps away from the hustle and bustle of Market Square, The Oliver Hotel is an original expression of the city. Originally built in 1876 as the Peter Kern Bakery, the building had hosted everything from the Kern's candy counter and soda fountain to a drugstore, and dancing hall. In 2011, the property was renovated into what is now Knoxville's best boutique hotel with a style that plays tribute to the buildings history, while offering guests rooms with charm, sophistication, and modern amenities. The property features the Peter Kern Library Bar, a craft cocktail lounge; Tupelo Honey Cafe, an award winning restaurant; and Oliver Royale Restaurant, featuring a chef driven menu and bar. ... more   less
