My wife and I recently returned to La Place for a four-night break. Unfortunately, we couldn't visit last year due to COVID and wondered how things would be on our return. Several familiar faces were missing this year due to some staff leaving because of the pandemic, but we were pleased to see that the hotel manager Craig was still there. Craig is a hands-on manager, who goes out of his way to make you feel welcome and his management style has obviously inspired his new staff and is one of, if not the main reason, why the hotel is so highly rated. Amongst the new staff were the waitress Roxana who is so pleasant and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for her. If only staff in other restaurants were like Roxana! Craig you need to retain Roxana. A very new recruit is Flavia who, despite learning on the job, anticipated our needs in the restaurant. On reception was another new member of staff, Carolina, who replied promptly to my emails before our visit. Carolina is another extremely pleasant and efficient member of staff and made us feel very welcome during our stay. It was also great to see Bobby back at the hotel on a part time basis. You are always assured of a laugh when talking to Bobby. Apologies for not mentioning other staff by name but whole team at the hotel from the reception staff to the housekeeping all went above and beyond to make this such an enjoyable stay. The hotel is located up a steep hill and a car would be useful to travel in to St Aubin or the capital St Helier. The hotel does, however, not only provides a pick-up service from the airport, but will also transport you to and from the restaurants in St Aubin. Our Deluxe room overlooked the outdoor pool. Renovated a few years ago, the room was still immaculate, beautifully and stylishly decorated and was just to my wife's taste. We have stayed in several 4 and 5 star hotels previously and this hotel rates amongst the best. We couldn't have been better looked after. As we told Craig, prior to our departure, we will definitely return and will certainly recommend it to friends and family.

I stayed in the self catering cottages for a week with my husband and son and I was extremely disappointed. Firstly our travel agent arranged transfers from the airport with the hotel and on our booking confirmation it stated we should contact the hotel on arrival, we did so and waited and waited for them to collect us but no one came! I phoned again and was to,d it wasn’t part of the package so we had to get a taxi which are not equipped with car seats for children. We had to risk him travelling without one! There was barely anything to welcome us on arrival, a loaf of bread, eggs and some goodies would have been greatly received as we had no idea shops are all closed on a Sunday in jersey and the room service is ridiculously priced! Black mould was propelled out the jets In the supposed luxury jaccuzi bath, absolutely disgusting! Hair in the shower drain, broken blinds, filthy wardrobes, lumpy beds, broken lamps, the decor was not as shown on the website. We also complained several times about the WIFI as we didn’t really have any, we couldn’t connect or it would drop out every few seconds or so which was extremely frustrating as we still had some business to do. There was a large building being constructed on the hotel site close to the cottages which we knew nothing about prior to booking, by law travel agents/ hotels are supposed to disclose this but unfortunately they didn’t. We had to put up with noise and disruption and never had a car parking space for our rental car as they were always full with builders vans! The pool was old and desperately needed updating as the tiles were broken and chipped. We did complain about the terrible experience we had and we were offered a gesture of good will but this wasn’t enough to make up for the long list of problems we had and the misleading description on line. The only good thing we experienced was the hotel room on the final night but we were very angry about the breakfast the next day as we had specifically stated when booking that my son was allergic to cows milk, I also reiterated this to the reception staff but hence to say they served him cows milk but luckily I checked! Incompetent and dangerous!

We have stayed at La Place on too many occasions to count. However, on our recent trip to Jersey, for a number of reasons, we opted for an Easy Jet package with the intention of staying three nights at the Sommerville. Oh dear, what a mistake. After a couple of hours I was on the phone to Craig at La Place and the next day we were installed in a beautiful room. Accommodation, staff, attention to detail, food, all excellent as usual. Cannot fault La Place. Usual thanks to Craig, Tim, Paulio, Rui and all the other staff who once again made our stay perfect.

We stayed for a week in two cottages and from arrival at the airport where we were collected by the hotel drivers we felt totally looked after. The cottages were beautifully kitted out and any minor glitches such as a dodgy shower head were quickly remedied. The staff are warm, friendly and professional and went over and above to ensure a comfortable stay. Whilst we self catered we did have breakfast, Sunday lunch and a meal at the restaurant and the food was good quality as you would expect in the Channel islands. If you stay in the cottages Lucas Farm shop produce was fantastic. We ordered a fruit and veg box, breads, pastries, eat and dairy and it was all excellent. We ordered online and the hotel placed it in our cottage before arrival. Waitrose is a short drive away as well as M&S. This is a lovely hotel and the staff clearly love children as our two year old grandson was quite besotted with the staff. Looking forward to returning very soon.
