The Ness is in an excellent location with views from terrace or restaurant over the bay to Teigmouth and beyond toward Dawlish. On one of the clear days during our stay we could see all the way to Portland over calm blue sea whilst having breakfast in the conservatory. Tom Hunt and all the staff were friendly, welcoming and professional. All expected Covid precautions and procedures were in place to reassure guests both staying or just visiting the restaurant. It was just a short walk in one direction down into Shaldon to explore the village and pubs and similar the other way through the tunnel to Smugglers cove beach. Our room #12 (standard double) was clean and comfortable. Only minus point(s) are the restricted parking (that they can do nothing about) and in standard rooms, the amount of clothes storage if staying 3 nights or more is a bit limited. However these can be overcome and would not stop me from staying there again. Tom and his team run a great place to stay and dine..…
We tried again later in the week as lab injury meant long walks suspended. The service was excellent and attentive again. Food good this time. Fish and chips and steak pie tasty. My opinion only Being a prime site and beautiful views they do not have to work too hard to attract customers. Where they probably fall behind the local competition is not using local produce and local guest beers. Could be amazing. COVID careful. Great for families and 🐕
We stayed for one night and had a lovely stay. The bed was big and comfy, room immaculately clean and the copper freestanding bath was to die for. I was able to lie in the bath and look out to sea. The breakfast was lovely and there was a lot of options. We ate dinner in the evening which was also very good.
Booked a table, sunday evening, track and trace and procedures easy to follow as a customer and staff executed their service and responsibilities very well. Managed to get a window table, with great view, food was reasonably priced, of good quality and cooked perfectly, Ham Hock Terrine, Prawn cocktail, Steaks were favourites. Cheese board was good, but a very small portion of the blue vinny cheese was a little disappointing. Bubbles and Wines were good and reasonably priced. Would Recommend and would dine here again.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, first for a drink and quick side for lunch then dinner of the evening. We were fortunate to have a window table in the conservatory area. Our dishes were lovely particular the whitebait starter and the butternut squash fritters. Would definitely recommend!
