A Small Hotel (Restaurant with Rooms, really) set in the best residential area of Forres, Moray. There are lots of activities within easy reach of the hotel such as golf, the world famous Malt Whisky Trail, castles, beaches and much more. Inverness is only 30 miles (airport 25 miles) away and there are many places of interest which can be reached. We have an extremely good reputation for food as you will see from the reviews.

Where to start? On a much-needed break from London, we spent four glorious nights in this charming hotel. Our room was airy, comfortable, scrupulously clean and more than adequate to our needs. We were particularly impressed by the stringent, but unobtrusive, Covid precautions in place - would that we had these in England! The many glowing reviews we had read about owners Julia and Lloyd were spot on. Our hosts could not have been more welcoming or attentive. And now to the food... Wow! Absolutely fabulous, though it would be remiss of me not to issue the warning that a stay at The Cluny Bank is not for anyone trying to lose weight. Every meal was a treat from start to finish – and with so many little dishes between courses. Previous guests have spoken about Lloyd's obvious passion for cooking and his personal attendance at the table to describe, in amongst all the jokes, the mouth-watering desserts he so lovingly prepares - they were not wrong! All in all – a really lovely stay. In Arnie’s immortal words: we’ll be back…

Excellent hotel and restaurant. Superb cuisine, expertly described with each course, especially the desserts talked through in detail and enthusiasm by Lloyd. Also provided a recipe to take away. Great breakfast too. Excellent room facilities, and setting in grounds, with good access to north coast sites for nature etc. Would love to come again when in the area.

Stayed 2 nights in Balchins Den... A lovely room, which although attached is separate to the main hotel, with its own entrance. 10 years had past since our first stay but apart from fresh decor, nothing had changed. Julia & Lloyd work hard to ensure all guests have a quality, comfortable and memorable stay, which they achieve in spades. Everything is spotless and plush. The cosy bar is a delight and a great place to chat with other residents late afternoon or after dinner. Mostly to compare notes on places visited and what Lloyd served from the varied menu that evening. I highly recommend booking dinner, bed and breakfast as the food is the real draw in my book. Lots of little extra surprise tidbits make the meal fun too. However, save room for pudding, as that's a particular highlight as Lloyd explains in his own inimitable style the delicious desserts he's lovingly prepared. The standard of food and accommodation is outstanding and offers such great value for money in our opinion. Cluny Bank/Forres is well located too being only a few miles away from the beautiful coastline and towns of Elgin & Lossiemouth, to name but two. A good selection of Nature reserves are close by too. Check out the Windswept Brewery in Lossiemouth if you have the time & inclination. The popular Captains Table Inn in the village of Findhorn offers beautiful harbour views as well as good food. So hope we can return sooner next time around!

Jules met us when we arrived, made us feel safe and welcome, gave us the brief and then showed us to our room. The day we arrived was the hottest day in Scotland for 115 years but the room was very cool, clean and comfortable. Obviously heating was available but not required. We both slept well in a very large and comfortable bed and woke feeling rested. Breakfast on both days was most excellent and well catered for my being a coeliac and requiring a gluten free diet. Both Jules and Lloyd understood my dietary requirements and discussed them with us at each mealtime. We had not planned to eat in the restaurant the first night as we had family connections in Forres and our itinerary was uncertain but we did eat in on our second night. What a delight it was to have a fine dining experience with gluten free food, it was really special. Lloyd came and talked to all the diners about their food and his infectious banter was a delight to everyone. The meal was superb and we are planning to invite family members to dine there on our next visit. The appetizers between each course were a welcome surprise and very tasty. Overall we had the most delightful stay, felt very safe whilst there and will definitely return.

This hotel is a gem! From start to finish we were made to feel welcome. We were greeted by name by our lovely hostess, Jules. She then took us to our room, something we haven't seen in a long time. Our room was the Davies, a cooler room set at the side of the hotel. There is very adequate heating, should you require it. Meals were outstanding, with appetisers between each course. Lloyd coped admirably with my many food intolerances. He comes out of the kitchen to speak to all of his guests every night to make sure they are satisfied. We've already Cluny Bank to relatives & hope to return again in the future.

Arrived on a Sunday for three days fishing. Nothing was too much trouble, meals could be timed to suit fishermen and leaving at 5am to fish was not a problem. Beds comfortable, rooms quiet, linen classy, food excellent, napery very smart. By the glass wine was commendable and the service prompt without being fussy. Well worth a visit.

From a very personable check-in to a swift check-out, this place was absolutely fantastic. I had dinner for two nights here and it was truly amazing. All my dietary needs were catered for. For the early starts, Julia e sired there was a breakfast box ready for me outside my room. Julia is a great host and it is clear the chef has a passion for cooking.

Jules welcomed us when we arrived at Cluny Bank Hotel and we had booked to stay in Belchin's Den for 2 nights with bed and breakfast and an evening meal on the 2nd evening. The room was spacious and clean and we were happy with it. We were looked after well by Jules and Lloyd. Lloyd took his time to come out and speak to guests and is a lively and chatty host. I had requested a vegetarian meal and he made me a delicious Canarian Lasagne which was absolutely devine. My husband had pigeon for the first time and again rated it extremely highly. Lloyd came out to describe all the desserts and how he cooks them. I was blown away with the passion he has for his cooking and it really came across and was refreshing to see. Breakfasts again were delicious and plenty to choose from. We felt that they safety precautions still in place due to COVID were fantastic and we felt really comfortable and safe during our stay. The hotel is well situated for the surrounding areas with off road car parking. Although we did keep passing the hotel on the first couple of trips out as the signage was a bit difficult to see. The only down side was I personally felt the wording and photo of Balchin's Den was slightly misleading. When they mention the fact it has a side door, the side door is not actually the one shown in the photo. This door in fact is kept locked and doesn't have a view. We weren't sure if this room is below an office or a bedroom but whoever was in it was up at about 7am walking up and down a lot and it did wake us up. There was also work being carried out on the house next door to the side we were at and some noise from this was heard. But overall, it was a lovely stay and very welcoming and very safe.
