Stayed recently on a 2 night break. The entrance and public areas are lovely. Paid for upgrade to a seaview room. The room was a good size and view was really good. I found the decor and furnishings to be slightly dated. Bed was not the biggest. Normally you get a super king bed in 4 star hotels. Duvet was light and poor quality. Due to Covid rooms not cleaned daily which was ok, but we were only given 4 teabags for 2 days which is only enough for a cup of tea a day. Food was only served in Orangery restaurant. No bar food in Aurora bar which is explained as due to Covid yet same place is used to serve breakfast. I am not a fan of formal dining and prefer casual bar food so had to drive to either Ardrossan or Largs for dinner as there are no bars nearby. We had a few drinks in the bar on first night. At 9.20 the barman said they were closing due to bar being quiet. The next night at 9.40 it was the same. The waitress however informed us that we could move into The Orangery to have a drink, something that we were not told about the first night. Surely if taking bookings facilities should be available to guests. Breakfast was good and service throughout the hotel was excellent.

A very strange selection on the new menu. Many traditional favorites gone. Ramen was awful, least authentic ramen I've ever seen or tasted. If going to serve Asian food, it needs to be done authentically. Service varied as usual, some very experienced staff and some clearly not (one struggled to open a bottle of wine), which doesn't match with the pricing. Steak prices are outrageous for Ayrshire! Stick to smaller and more traditional menu.

Super food, friendly, attentive service from front of house and restaurant staff but housekeeping didn't match up unfortunately room needed a good dusting. Glossy black tables etc, covered in dust and skirting in bathroom dirty. Cleaning standards, especially given ongoing Covid hysteria, need to be improved. There was also the remains of a takeaway curry left lying in our corridor overnight and still not cleared away at 10am. Not the most appetising aroma to greet you on the way to breakfast. Otherwise, we were impressed and would definitely return for a short stay. Pool was fabulous. Thank you.
