Stayed here overnight on a short trip to the Islands. A very comfortable and clean hotel with attentive and kind staff. Ate a superb seafood meal in the restaurant. Scallops, salmon finished off with an Orkney steamed pudding. Definitely a recommend!

Nice hotel, lovely people in a nice location. Really slept well could have something to do will the good food. The hotel is by a working pier, so one morning we were able to select a freshly caught lobster straight off the boat.

Fell in love with this hotel straight away. It is next to the sea with a little pier outside. Plenty of parking and an onsite restaurant. We were welcomed by a very friendly and helpful lady and checking in was very easy. The rooms are clean and bright, the bed very comfortable and it was lovely to go to sleep...

We stayed at The Sands for 5 nights while we explored Orkney. It's very convenient for the St Margaret Hope/Gills Bay ferry and easy enough to whizz over to Mainland (pausing at the Italian Chapel and Orkney Wine on Lambsholm). The hotel itself is fine, a converted building looking out at the south eastern corner of Scapa Flow, with all...

Orkney isn't very well endowed with hotels but this is a good one. Nothing special in hotel terms - pretty ordinary in fact - but it provides everything you need at a good price together with very good food and friendly service. I'll return there.

We went to the Sands for Sunday lunch, thinking it looked good and had a great location. But we were sadly disappointed by the offering. It started badly - they had mixed up our reservation - but managed to find us a table. Service was fine, but nothing more. The starter was reasonable enough - a half-decent soup which was,...

Part of our tour included a cream tea at the hotel. Lovely and much needed after a windy drive around scapa flow - scones fresh and rhubarb jam delightful with tea and coffee flowing freely by friendly cheerful staff. Thank you

On a motorhome tour of Orkney we were looking for a motorhome friendly restaurant where we could have a meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were told we were welcome to stay in their car park overnight. The setting of the hotel is lovely with views to the sea from the dining room. The meal was all very good,...

Stayed for 3 nights in a very nice, clean comfortable room with en-suite. However the shower was tiny, there was very little room to turn round, and with the doors to the cubicle shut it felt claustrophobic . Meals were very good but only one salad on the whole menu, this was a starter, but when asked the chef did...

One of the best places to eat in Orkney. The young staff are excellent, the selection is first class and the quality is second I to none. I had steak but if you like seafood I'm sure you will love it. Well worth the trip from Kirkwall . Four in our party all rave reviews . Was busy on a...
