Old fashioned town and the Royal is in keeping. Breakfast and evening meals were very good especially at the very reasonable rate per night we were paying. Rooms were clean and tidy with and in reasonable decorative order.
On arrival at the hotel, the check in and information I received was perfect as for the room I had you could not fault it . The meals were beautiful as well as the service. The overall view I have of the hotel is ....More
Just as the title says, this was a last minute choice after driving for a long time and needing a rest and food. We were traveling with our dog so hotel choices were limited. The Royal Hotel took us in, dog too. The hotel has...More

Hello there, apologies I did not see your question earlier. I was quite surprised by the hotel as I kind of expected the same, but it was very quiet when we were there, the restaurant was ok, however I'd recommend the restaurant by the station. It is ageing a bit, but the friendly staff and location more than made up for it as it was nice to be central. I believe the place was very busy at one point when the oil was booming, however the the terminal nearby has pretty much all but closed its door and I believe the whole town is quieter due to this. I was just in a single room, which was a bit on the small side, but I'd imagine the family rooms would be a lot larger. There is no smoking in the hotel by law (UK laws now). My room was cleaned daily. I dare say there is better hotels around Tain, however they're a bit of a distance. I was happy, but was only there on business. I hope this is of some help to you guys, and that you enjoy your trip, it is what you make of it that counts :)
