The hotel was ok for the one night. Room was clean and comfy if a little tatty.,the view from the room was beautiful so that made up for the dated decor. The hotel wants a lot of money spending on it. However the staff were very helpful and friendly and the dinner was good. Breakfast was great, lovely poached eggs!...

I have only given this hotel 1 star because I can't go any lower. We stayed here for one night and that was more than enough. I can't think of anything good to say. The hotel is very dowdy and dark, some of the carpets were filthy. The staff were very poor and didn't seem to care a jot. The...

I thought shared toilet and bathrooms were a forgotten chapter in Scotland, but am sorry to say that I got into a surprise here:-( Single room, only £60 a night, but that was in fact a stiff price.. The room had a wall-to-wall carpet with a large stain of "something" in the middle. Trying to fall asleep in the evening...

Good points: Great breakfast, even if the milk is plonked down in its original carton. Warm bedrooms, clean towels, hot water. Evening meal hot, but not hugely imaginative. Nice enough lounge bar but a bit cold and too close to the gents' toilets. Pleasant bar staff. Good position on main street. Bad points: stood at reception waiting to check in...

We stayed here for 2 nights in late August. Hotel was perfect for 2 guys on a Religious Pilgrimage to Islay. Robert and his team were very helpful. When we asked "What is the easiest way to get the Ardbeg" the answer was "I can take you!" When we asked "How do we get to Bruichladdie" the answer was "I...

Expect to pay a premium price on Islay as nearly everything has to be imported. Rooms are categorised as First Class, Saloon Class, Steamer Class and Cabin Class but only the first two are en-suite. I had a Steamer Class single room which was £60 for bed and breakfast and I had a sea view. Actually, the bathroom was just...

We just dined here as we couldn't get in to the Islay Hotel but although a little tired looking the food was great. Kids had sausage, beans and chips, adults had haddock and chips. Honestly, the fish was hanging off the plate it was that large and it was perfectly cooked. No room for puddings after that but the restaurant...

Rooms are functional, beds comfortable. As stated by other reviewers, the hotel is a bit dated. Beware the noisy interior doors on second floor...that bang as people pass through. Breakfast was nicely done, though a bit institutional. Friendly clerk at check in, but, then, everyone was friendly during the Malt andMusic festival! Convenient location for tours to lagavulin, laphroig and ardbeg....
