The time has passed for this hotel it is difficult to know where to start. The smile from the proprietor at reception didn't exist, the welcome was missing, along with room comfort, no further smiles came from the barman, cans of beer or coke were better than the stale draught - though plenty of whisky brands available, all food products... We booked to stay at Lochgair Hotel for a single night en-route to Islay. Lochgair is a convenient 40 minutes or so from the ferry terminal at Kennacraig and seemed the perfect place to rest our weary heads after travelling from Birmingham. We reached the hotel in good time and pulled into the parking space opposite at 3pm, looking forward... More

What a shame. Should be lovely because of location but dismal. Badly decorated entrance and bedrooms, with a fusty smell. Wall paper peeling and whole place in dire need of revamp. Stains on bedding. Highlights were the vast selection of whiskies which were delicious and reasonably priced and the bathroom and shower were well kitted out. Breakfast comprised of cheap... More

A warm welcome, lovely food with a not huge but large enough evening meal menu and a good variety of breakfast items including freshly prepared hot breakfast, helpful staff and comfy rooms. We would go back if we visit the area again.

We did 400 miles on motorbikes, seven of us, the hotel was a welcome rest stop, if you are a bit snobby or up yourself it might not suit you. The rooms were comfy and clean, the bed was super comfy, it did take a wee bit time for the hot water to come through but when it did I... More

Very comfortable and pleasant stopover en-route to Sothern Hebrides. Staff very friendly and welcoming, rooms clean and comfortable and food very good. Wonderful peaceful location, and pet friendly. This was a pleasant surprise for us and we would definately book again if we are returning to this part of the world.

I just loved this hotel. We had booked in here at the last minute as all decent hotels were fully occupied. There was a strong feeling of nostalgia as we arrived, parking in front of the broken windows and rotting window sills. The neglected front aspect was complimented by the bed of horsetail weed which luxuriated before the front of... More

I stayed at the hotel with my daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters, aged 2 and 5 months on our way back from a family wedding on the West coast. On arrival, I was rather dismayed by the exterior which is in definite need of attention. The interior, however, was more reassuring, and our rooms were clean and more than acceptable.... More

I had to wait two hours to gain access as I was on foot and reception did not open until 16.00. The owner had been on the roof fixing a leak. The bedrooms were tired and the bathroom very dated. Despite this the bed was comfortable and the shower had reasonable water pressure. The hotel is on the main A83... More

Having to pay London hotel prices for a room in a sleepy Scottish village is one thing, but having to try and keep your daughter dry through the night due to the leaking roof is another 😥 Completely run down and an owner with no idea about customer service. Avoid room 8 as the roofs leaking like a sieve. The... More
