Portnellan. Where memories are made. Recent finalist for the Visitscotland's Thistle Award in the category "Best Self Catering in Scotland" for our region. Portnellan has a 'Certificate of Excellence' from Tripadvisor for the seventh year running with over 235 reviews from guests. A tasteful collection of 4 and 5 star self catering holiday chalets and cottages owned and run by the Taylor family for nearly 40 years. Located just outside the picturesque village of Crianlarich within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. A great central location for touring and visiting many of Scotland's attractions and adventure. All chalets and cottages are positioned thoughtfully on a small private estate with sensational views of loch, glen and mountains. There are many activities onsite to enjoy including free use of rowing boats, kayaks,Weber gas BBQ and estate loch and river fishing. In addition there is WiFi. There is a games room with table tennis, pool table, table football and a small gym available to use. Clay pigeon shooting and paddle board hire can also be arranged. All properties are tastefully appointed to 4 and 5 star standard varying in size from 1 to 8 bedroom with stunning views across the loch, mountain and glen. Other features include Egyptian Cotton bed linen and king size beds with hotel grade pocket sprung mattresses. Some chalets even have a private sauna and spa bath. There are even fresh eggs available from our hand reared ducks (when laying). This beautiful accommodation is available for short breaks, weeks or longer all year round. We planned a big family celebration for 15 people in four lodges at Portnellan. The setting was stunningly beautiful and the luxurious lodges were spaciously set out to take full advantage of the views. We had the bad luck though, to be there during storm Arwen, which on Friday evening, caused a power cut across much of east and central Scotland, which lasted the whole weekend, even though the weather improved quite quickly. Support from Cameron included a plentiful supply of logs and we were able to congregate in the spacious Ghillies Lodge which has a powerful log burner. This, plus the fact that nearby Crianlarich still had power, meant we could have hot meals there and stay warm most of the time. Three of our adventurous younger members were even able to climb Stobhinian on the sunny Saturday afternoon! Cameron’s help meant we were able to stay till late Sunday morning and get safely home once roads were cleared of fallen trees. We realised how extreme the effects of the storm were and considered ourselves lucky compared with many others. Even without power and with a limited water supply, the luxurious lodges and beautiful surroundings made it more of an adventure than an ordeal. Everyone is keen to revisit and enjoy the great surroundings and facilities, but hopefully not ‘off grid’!

I was at Portnellan twice this year and I am planning to go again. I love that it's a remote area though, the nearby village is about 45 mins walk through a pathway from Portnellan where you can get the supplies and even eat at the local pub. the hikes are amazing and the views are just so relaxing.

This was our third visit at Portnellan. Again I’d did not disappoint. We stayed at the Kingfisher lodge with our two dogs. The lodge was modern and spacious. Ticked all boxes. The view from the lodge was spectacular. We will definitely be back for a fourth visit at the very least.

The Ghillie's chalet lies on two floors up the top of the hill. The upper floor houses a large double bedroom with good sized double bed, ensuite and an amazing view plus a twin room with ensuite. The lower floor houses a good-sized lovely open-plan living-dining-kitchen area (with a great view), a pull-out double bed (for a 7th and 8th person), a double bedroom with a good sized double bed (we are tall) and next to it (in a private corridor if no-one is sleeping on the pull-out bed) two rooms comprising a loo, basin, bidet, whirlpool bath, sauna and another basin. There were only 4 of us staying and although we could have rented a smaller chalet, we wanted two generous double beds. The kitchen was very well equipped, the beds very comfortable and time flew. 4 days just wasn't long enough. We spent a great day in Oban, where we bought delicious fresh seafood to cook at the chalet. Our friends have an EV and there's a free charging point in Crianlarich (1.6 miles away).
