The room was cosy and the bed comfortable, staff were all very friendly, welcoming and attentive. The decor inside the hotel is quite charming with a few lounge areas to relax in. I found the upstairs bar area to be very relaxing with a nice view over the forest to the Crianlarich hills. Breakfast was great value and plenty of choice of items. Location convenient for many walks and travel to other areas via coach or train. Would definitely stay again.

The hotel is located in a very quiet area, plenty of nature around and a few minute walk to the train station. Great for walks in nature, there are also a few shops and restaurants nearby. The hotel is nice and cosy, very nice staff.

At any cost - avoid this place! Ignore the fake positive reviews! We had paid for 4 nights in advance (unfortunately) and left after a few hours of checking in as it was the most disgusting place we had ever been in. The surroundings are beautiful, it is such a shame that this place is so horrid. This is the only positive - lovely woodland and mountains. We checked in and the decor was very old and shabby and the room smelt musty. There were dirty cups on the side. Then we noticed a blood stain on the bed. We went to reception and asked if they would get us some clean bedding. They apologised and swapped our rooms instead. The next room had the same musty smell , but also a smell of cigarettes and toilet. There were cigarette butts everywhere outside of the window. Dust everywhere. The same dirty cups. Dead insects. Dirt in the bath. Grotty walls and floors. Stains up the walls that looked like dried blood again or a dark coffee. And something in the toilet ...🤮 (I have a photo of this but haven't uploaded as it's disgusting) We then heard loud music being played and tons of shouting ... which (upon investigation) turned out to be the staff walking around with a speaker. The music and shouting was so loud that we couldn't hear the TV in the room (which had about 3 working channels). We discussed staying one night and leaving. Somebody tried our door handle and then ran off - we didn't feel safe to leave our belongings in the room. We were both feeling really itchy from being in the room at this point (we weren't there long and have bites on our skin!). We had another conversation and decided that we could not stay overnight and would rather risk sleeping in the car if we couldn't find elsewhere. We checked out and the receptionist said he understood why (it's obvious they get this often). We emailed the hotel but yet to have a response, they don't care. Please do not give this hotel a chance, you will regret it!!! If there's one positive out of our bad experience, it's that you might read this review and not go! It's not worth a penny of your hard earn money. The place needs to be condemned

From the moment I arrived to when I checked out, my stay was non-stop chaos at Muthu Ben Doran Hotel. Check-in is from 2pm, so when I arrived around 4pm I wasn't expecting any problems. I was told my basic single room wasn't ready yet, so I had to sit in the foyer with my bags. Nearly an hour later I was told it was ready and I was offered a complimentary breakfast or dinner to make up for it (sounds good right? more on this later). In the room, the hot water dial was broken on the shower leaving only cold water. To be fair, a member of staff fairly quickly sorted me out, moving me to the room next door. Room number two had a broken TV (not too bothered) and a heater which worked fine, but gave a small flicker of visible electricity every now and then so I didn't dare leave it on overnight. Back to the complimentary meal - I chose to have dinner which was in the hotel restaurant on the third floor. The large dining room was packed with a couple of coach parties, therefore it felt like a solo traveller like myself was destined to be overlooked. I felt very sorry for the three servers dealing with such a large amount of people. It took half an hour just for my order to be taken after I'd been shown to my seat. Once the food came it was great, couldn't fault it, they were just seriously understaffed which seemed to be a running theme throughout the hotel. Speaking of running, the servers were running, not briskly walking, around the dining room and back to the kitchen. I left once I'd eaten and moved on with my night. When I came to check-out a couple of days later, I was told I needed to pay £16 for the meal. The receptionist had not informed any other staff members that she'd offered it to me on the house - just poor communication due to stress I suppose. I explained the situation and thankfully wasn't made to pay. Please note the Wi-Fi doesn't work in the rooms, only in the lounge areas, dining room, bar etc. Parking is also a free-for-all nightmare with limited space. You'll likely end up on a grass verge if you arrive at the wrong time. On the plus side, the location is fantastic, close enough for Loch Lomond and about an hour up to Kinlochleven. Please just read the other reviews and decide for yourself if it's worth the hassle. And yes, it's true, there is a framed picture of proud owner Dr. M.G. Muthu in the hotel foyer, watching over you as you wait an hour for your room to be ready...

First, this is a 3 star hotel in a small town in the Highlands, not a big city 5 star, so set your expectations. The location and the views from the top floor bar and restaurant are excellent. Nice room, with plenty of space and good facilities, although wi-fi is patchy. Staff were friendly but busy, obviously short a person or two (but so is everywhere else at the moment post-brexit/COVID).
