I booked two nights at this hotel after finding a great deal advertised on Trip Advisor through Booking.Com. I booked the two nights the month before our trip. After organizing time off, sorting out the car and shopping for the trip, we were all ready to go on the Sunday. The booking was made, paid for and confirmed through Booking.Com and on the Thursday beforehand we received a 'Welcome' to the Hotel' message with details about signing in on arrival and Hotel services, it looked fine we were set to go, it was just 2 days before our booking. Then later on Thursday evening I received another message telling me there had been a mistake in the pricing and that in fact even though we had booked and paid the fee in advance, that we could still have the rooms but we would have to pay an extra £120.00 per night and the hotel would 'understand' if we wished to cancel. That was it, no apology, blame was assigned to Booking.Coms automated system. I had to use Booking.com's cancellation policy and to this point I have not received a refund or even an acknowledgement of our disappointment. Neither did I from the Hotel reception. I am left feeling we fell through a crack in the 'grey' area between Trip Advisor, Booking.Com and the management of the Tre-Ysgawen Hall and Spa. I felt like a rug had been pulled from under our feet with absolutely no one taking any kind of responsibility or blame for an event that was absolutely no fault of our own. Will never use Booking.Com again, neither will I ever book into this Hotel and as for Trip Advisor suggesting and supporting this arrangement in the first place? Despite booking a month earlier, why did the Hotel leave it until the last moment before cancelling our visit?…
Absolutely amazing. We have just returned from a night stay. We were welcomed by a lovely lady at reception who was very helpful. We enjoyed the use of the spa and the facilities. The thermal room is amazing really enjoyed the spa.I enjoyed a full body massage which was very relaxing and the lady doing the massage was very professional. Our room was lovely with a very comfortable massive bed with a patio finished of with a fantastic cooked breakfast looking forward to retuning again.
A thoroughly bizarre, never-to-be-repeated experience. There is no restaurant as might be expected. of. a claimed 4 * hotel. Only a seated area to provide breakfast or, in the evening, unappetising "snacks" ( hotel staff description) stopping at 8pm. That's when the bar closes, unless someone is still occupying it. Told this after a 5-hour drive, and that if we wanted dinner, "there's restaurants at Red Wharf Bay, it's only 15-20 minutes' drive away." On our return on our 2nd night, we arrived at 8.10pm to find the front door locked, the "hotel" in darkness and as far as we could tell devoid of life. We had, however, been issued with a key so it was possible to reach our room. Whether and how efficiently the hotel's spa, pool and other facilities might have been working we have no idea as we had no spare time to use them. For this experience we paid Just under £300, including a few drinks, a laughable amount and a testament to my naivety in buying a so-called "luxury 2-night hotel stay" from an internet outfit called Buyagift, which completely failed to give any indication of the "hotel"'s glaring shortcomings. Buyagift, too, is a never-to-be repeated experience. The back story behind this tale is, however, interesting. Staff told me it has been up for sale since pre- Covid' and that most of the hotel is in. act closed off and the restaurant shut down a year ago. That explains the vast, initially to us puzzling gulf between the very high quality of the hotel's fixtures and fitting and its miserable failure to provide anything remotely resembling 4* services…
A beautiful place to stay, with lovely grounds to walk in. Our room was large with an extra large bed which was very comfortable and everywhere was spotlessly clean We had doors which opened onto the patio , so lovely to sit in the sunshine enjoying the peace and quiet. The pool and facilities were fantastic a great place to relax and enjoy ! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay especially the lovely cooked breakfast. We have booked already to return in the near future. We can only hope that they are able to open the main house again, as we would love to stay there, but until that happens it is still a fabulous place to stay.
We really enjoyed a one night stay at Tre-Ysgawen this weekend. It's such a shame that the main hotel is closed as the staff go above and beyond to be helpful and it's excellent value for money. The spa is well maintained and the chap on the bar was particularly helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend and hopefully business can return to normal very soon. We'll be back!
Stayed one night in this wonderful hotel. Whilst much of the establishment is closed due to staffing issues, the part we stayed in was clean and very comfortable. The staff were terrific and couldn't do enough to ensure our stay was first class. The spa & swimming pool was the best I have experienced in a long while. The bar was well stocked and very relaxing and breakfast superb. We will definitely be back.
Having previously stayed here we decided to return post covid, staying 2 nights on a B&B basis. Initially a few issues with accommodation which were expertly resolved in a most satisfactory manner by Ashley who runs this establishment to the point where we were invited to the Spa members barbecue run by Ashley and his brother which was a lovely unexpected gesture on their part. The pool and spa are excellent facilities which enhance your stay. Breakfast was excellent too with locally sourced produce and plenty of choice including the hearty Welsh breakfast. All in all a terrically peaceful idyllic base to explore the island and its coastline, beaches, towns, villages and ancient monuments. Cannot heap enough praise on this hotel and more importantly its people - a place where staff do "go the extra mile" Thank you…
Warm welcome at reception and friendly helpful staff during our stay. Nice bar food in the evening and great cooked breakfast. Very nicely decorated Spa, very clean and relaxing with good size swimming pool. Value for money Will stay again
Warm welcome by receptionist. Room had patio doors that opened up on to a closed court yard. A real sun trap to sit and relax either after breakfast or after a day's exploring. Superb breakfast either full Welsh Breakfast or the largest portion of smoked salmon and scrambled eggs I've ever seen. All the staff were so helpful and pleasant. Steam room and sauna very relaxing unfortunately jacuzzi not working and the pool too cold for me to swim in, Restaurant not open but bar type meals served in the Clock Tower were delicious, particularly like the tomato and basil soup, We appreciated the bath robes and the bath sheets. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable
The staff are very helpful and happy. The room clean and spacious. The towels were heavenly! Food is limited but enough if you don’t want to go far. Take a moment in the Welsh salt steam and relax - it is a very relaxing and peaceful venue Definitely going back.
