Went for a overnight stay in December 2021 Liked · The place itself give you the Wow factor straight away as you drive through the arch to get to the hotel, The staff overall were ok and the room itself was very big. Breakfast was Self serve and you can feast on a full english or ceral. Disliked · The spa section was closed which was a disapointment. considering the price of the room you'd think the owners would renovate the place as it's a lovely castle shame in area the carpets needed cleaning or replacing, most areas need painting also. The room again needed updating not what it advertises "This individually designed room features a modern en suite bathroom and a flat-screen TV" Not sure when it was modern but the bathroom is rundown with paint flaking and mold forming. and the TV is old. the place does offer a evening meal though the prices are high.…
Lovely staff but I only gave 4 stars as the hotel is a bit tired. Really could do with a good lick of paint in many areas. That being said we really enjoyed our stay and staff in all areas are lovely and helpful. A real credit to the hotel! Beautiful grounds but sadly there was lots of yellow tape stopping access and it seemed like builders were using it as a dumping ground. The spa is lovely and well worth a visit to the outdoor hot tubs. Food was delicious too.
I have stayed here before so I knew the hotel was tired but clean and food was nice in the hotel. Not this time though. Our room was a deluxe double which was dirty and very tired and no hairdryer. The room was cold and musty smelling and dirt everywhere you looked. We were shown to another room which was just as bad. The restaurant food was disgusting and it took an hour and 15 mins for our food to arrive. I didn't eat the food and when I explained why the young girl said ok and took the plate away. The one and only bar was closed Breakfast was even worse! W paid for a spa experience and when we arrived no slippers or robes to wear to the outside hot tubs which was meant to be in a woodland experience. It really wasn't at all. It is a row of 5 hot tubs in a row next to a path with everyone walking past. I complained on check out and the receptionist asked for my contact details. I did receive an email asking for further information to which I responded to and nearly a week later no response. This could be an amazing hotel but the obvious lack of care, trained staff and lack of investment has really sent this hotel downhill and I would advise people to spend their money elsewhere The highlight of our stay was the baby Peacocks and driving home…
Breathtaking castle,we stayed here for my birthday and had a spa and mud treatment/hot tub package. Check in is from 3 so we arrived at 3. I would just at this point like to say it pains me to write negativity as it’s such a beautiful place and the staff are excellent…but I’m being honest….Very pleasant staff on reception but told the room wasn’t ready so if we make our way to the bar (peacock lounge) a member of the team would come and find us in 10/20 minutes…an hour later we went back to reception and was told the room was ready. Nice big room with a modern bathroom and roll top bath in the room which was nice. I don’t know where to start on cleanliness….we found it very poor maybe a 2/10. There was thick dust covering most surfaces, stains on the big glass topper for unit under tv,thick dust on shower head, grime on floor tiles in shower, the sink didn’t drain fast enough to ever get hot water in the sink. The little tea cupboard hadn’t been wiped down inside. Also we opened the bedside draw to find someone’s tablet packet dated December last year! Room is very tired and really needs a paint job, signs of a previous leak on ceiling. 2 single beds pushed together although it was comfortable and clean. I think these issues could be so easily rectified and would stop any negative feed back. Breakfast was ok,pastries on first day none the next. Cornwallis room was so nice with a huge open fire and with the snow falling outside it was just perfect. Would definitely come back if housekeeping was improved.…
My best friend and I treated each other to an overnight stay with dinner, and breakfast some treatments and a spa experience in the hot tub and mud room etc. It was magical. Beautiful surroundings, delicious food served piping hot, fabulous unique surroundings and very comfortable. But I have to day that ALL THE STAFF were first class. They made you think they were genuinely interested in you, couldn't do enough and in my opinion are the best staff I have experienced. Special mention to Kate on reception who helped us reschedule when an unforeseen thing happened, to Ellis who looked after us and to lovely Ruth who served us at breakfast and lunch. They were fantastic and added to our magical experience. We will return xx
My partner and I visited Ruthin Castle for afternoon tea and a couples spa afternoon. The dining room for afternoon tea was beautiful and the staff exceptional. However, the spa area was hugely disappointing. It felt tired and shabby and is in dire need of modernisation and a good clean. There were dirty mugs and glasses left piled in a sink with no clean ones left to use. The ‘thermal area’ is dark and unwelcoming and didn’t feel relaxing at all. The outdoor hot tubs were nice but again the area feels tired and a bit unkempt let down by damaged trellis, boxes of rubbish left behind an unused hot tub etc. There was only one member of staff on duty during our visit, Emma, who was really pleasant and did her best to be helpful. It feels as though Ruthin Castle is trading on its former glory, it is still a beautiful venue but I don’t think I’d visit again.…
Stayed here recently and we really enjoyed it! After reading lots of negative reviews we weren’t sure but we were really pleasantly surprised. Room: we had a standard room, which was basic but very modern bathroom. Clean (apart from water left in kettle and slight dirty mugs) bed was comfy too. Meal: we had dinner and breakfast included. Food was lovely, my only negative would be to have more choices as it was limited. The bar was nice, and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. Lots of history too. Spa was again basic, we just used the steam room and sauna We would definately stay again.
Called for afternoon tea for my Dad birthday and from the moment we stepped in everyone were so welcoming. The staff in the restaurant were also lovely, polite and friendly and a credit to the hotel 🏨 They also ensured that our allergies were catered for and ensured other food would not contaminate anything for the allergy sufferer. As some people have said it’s a bit run down in places but what do you expect from a 13th century castle! The peacocks in the garden were a great touch also . I would definitely recommend afternoon tea, but keep in mind it is a 13th century castle - thousands of years old that takes a lot of upkeep, but this all adds to its charm!
First time visit, stayed in the Patsy Suite in the top floor turret. Room was massive, stunning views over the castle grounds and into the North Wales countryside. Absolutely no issue with the room, spotless, comfortable and exactly what you hoped for. Staff were amazing, every single one really friendly. We especially liked how they would greet you as you walked around the hotel, always polite and making it seem like they genuinely care about you. Food was fine, although I would have ideally preferred a couple more options for dinner as a veggie. The was only two very minor things I would mention. The plumbing in the loo made a bit of a noise all night, but its a 13th century castle, not a brand new Premier Inn, so we didn't mind that too much, and we thought the 11pm last orders in the Peacock Lounge bar was a bit early, especially as there is no room service. Overall though, a huge 10/10 and we can't wait to come back.…
My husband booked here as a late birthday surprise , Fantastic welcome when we arrived, so thought the rest could only get better, Cleanliness of the room was shocking, Duvet had stains on Mattress protector had stains on Water in sink wouldn't drain away, because there was that much hair , Spoke to reception who were great and got us upgraded, The room was stunning, and again that's were it ended, No plug for the bath Rose petals under the bed Again the water in the sink wouldn't drain away , Cobwebs at eye level, They really need to sort the housekeeping team out as they are really letting them down
