We hired out the back room of the Three Horseshoes for my little girl's joint 3rd birthday party. The pub itself is absolutely lovely and has recently been renovated to a really high standard. The Playbarn soft play area is also excellent, and huge. But... The people who work in this pub have zero idea of how to provide good (or even acceptable) customer service. The problems began the day before we even arrived, when my wife rang to remind them that our daughter has coeliac disease and to check whether a gluten-free option was available (not an issue if it wasn't - we'd just take her a packed lunch). The man who answered the call was totally disinterested and rude, interrupting my wife, saying "just speak to the staff tomorrow". Slightly concerned by this, we took some sandwiches as backup. The day of the party, nobody introduced themselves or made themselves available to direct us or help in any way so we made our way to what looked like the most likely room for a party (we were right, fortunately). Some of the parents asked for coffees at the bar. You would have thought we'd asked the girl serving to actually go to Kenya to pick the beans herself, she was so put out about having to make three drinks. When a fourth parent arrived and asked for a decaff her response was so surly and rude, the parent in question was genuinely shocked. "I suppose so" was her response. God help you if you want oat milk. We then had to wait for TWENTY MINUTES for her to make the coffees. If you've ever seen Zootopia, well this waitress made Flash Slothmore look pretty dynamic. The resulting coffees were pretty awful (the decaff was instant Nescafe) and not even cheap. As this was going on, all the kids' food arrived, way before any of us wanted it, meaning they didn't have any time to actually play. Surprise surprise, no gluten-free option was served, so my daughter had to have her packed lunch, which was a bit sad for her. We always try to make things seem as normal as possible for her, but the carelessness of the staff at The Three Horseshoes resulted in her looking/feeling like a special case. Food-wise, very disappointing. I had a "Bangkok Bad Boy Burger", which was a very bland, not even remotely Thai, overcooked, dry veggie-burger that had been put through some kind of deflavouriser and cost £13. My friend had a steak baguette which looked ok though. Not long after the kids had finished eating, a waiter arrived to start hurrying us out ready for the next victims. He presented the bill to one of the birthday girls' mothers. She immediately spotted that we'd been charged for the gluten-free meal even though it hadn't arrived, but when this was pointed out to the waiter, he was more interested in arguing than in attempting to resolve the situation. He insisted that the gluten-free meal had been provided. "Well did yo you actually tell anyone?" she asked. He claimed he'd told someone but couldn't remember who. Totally unconvincing. In any case, there was no form of labelling of the gluten-free meal (if it was even delivered at all) so it just became lost in all the other food. Pretty shocking level of ignorance regarding potentially serious allergen issues, followed by an equally shocking inability to acknowledge any shortfall or wrongdoing. Terrible attitude. So we were actually MADE TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT WASN'T PROVIDED! When I found out about this later on I was pretty furious. Next, some of the kids went outside to play. I followed them out and I'm glad I did as there was a still burning bonfire (not just smoking/smouldering but actually burning) right next to the playground. They've also blocked a fire escape in the Playbarn area with a table and chairs. Again, pretty shocking and also illegal. So as we all left, unsurprisingly, nobody thanked us for our custom, asked if everything was ok, or even said goodbye. It's a real shame that such a potentially great pub is so completely spoiled by some really negative people. Someone has clearly spent a lot of money renovating this place and it has so much potential, but it is literally ruined by the attitude of the staff. We're not fussy or demanding people, and we would have been happy with even mediocre service in such a nice setting, but instead we all came away feeling really disappointed / angry, each with individual stories of how we'd been messed around, treated badly etc. I won't be going back and I don't think any of the other parents will be either, unless they sort out some customer service training.

I had visited here once befor lockdown and the food was amazing. I was not disappointed on my second visit today. I came with my dog after finding out they are dog friendly. I was made to feel very welcome as was my dog who had 2 sausages cooked for his tea as a treat. The food was delicious so obviously I had to treat myself to 3 courses 😁 The staff were amazing. I had a lovely relaxing evening. Thank you. Me and the dog will definitely be back 🙂

Arrived at the pub for a drink in the garden. All was well set up in the garden for Covid regulations however the service was verging on the unwelcoming side where both my husband and myself felt we were bothering the staff. When my husband went up to the mobile bar there was no one inside to serve drinks. However 4 staff members were chatting in a group ignoring him so he asked if one of them could serve him. The member of staff looked quite disgruntled to be asked to provide drinks for us. This isn’t the first time we’ve experienced lack lustre service at the pub but I really thought the licences would be more welcoming considering they have had to stay closed for quite some time. My suggestion would be to get you and your staff on a customer service workshop to improve not only their service but their attitude aswell. You have a lovely pub in a pretty location - don’t let yourself down!
