Detailed Reviews
It's really a boarding house full of medium to long term tenants. The deodoriser in the room hid the musty smell of mould in the dark carpets which must be 20+ years old. The TV i had was only about 15cms and was an old school analogue box that only got about half the old channels. its also a little noisy from the primary school next door and the 70s era kitchen has to be shared among nearly 40 rooms! Avoid unless you are desperate or only want to stay a night or two to crash.

It's a boarding house full of long term tenants! the rooms are ok very dark however, ventilation to the room is non existed. There is a full kitchen which has leftover food on the counter with pans and pots which are hardly clean. Noise is consistently loud out the front, so it is to sleep when the noise travels do the side of the building.
There isn't a live in care taker or management onside. however there is a sign at the front door the contradicts it.
Overall I wouldn't recommend this establishment! Management really needs to do some house keeping seriously. With having long term tenants can be a good thing however with these long terms tenants they believe they own the place.
There are pets in the rooms also..

My experience at Cammeray gardens was very rewarding as I met many interesting people staying long term,as well as people staying for a couple of weeks. In the summer it was lovely and it was good to socialise outside at the outdoor area which is only small but makes up for in atmosphere.

This place is centrally located and at around $50 a night, appears to be good value for money. Unfortunately management, and in particular the owner Ross, spoils it. In my experience (having stayed there three times now) he seems to have little respect for anyone, least of all the paying guests. You can tell from his voice when you make the booking, experience it first hand when you check in (so many rules!) and to top it off he is likely to hold back part of your $200 deposit when you check out (he held back around 25% of mine on two of my three stays). I found him so appalling to deal with, that it was easier to let go of the deposit than deal with him further. I suppose that's how he makes some of his money....Save your dignity and avoid checking into this place.

After 4 years living at Cammeray Gardens I can speak with some authority when I recommend this establishment. My wife & I have witnessed the improvements made by the owner Peter, a respected Sydney publican. So please ignore a review from some 3 months ago written by a disgruntled former tenant and attributed to HXP400. My name is Tony & I love it here!!!

To all those wishing to have a relaxing stay at a conveniently placed, budget location you are invited to consider Cammeray Gardens. I have been there for a while now, and have found it to be very friendly and courteous by both staff and tenants, the house is cleaned on a daily basis by a wonderful lady who leaves the kitchen laundry and toilets spotless. There is a nice area with tables and chairs along the side of the house where people have been known to have meals on warm afternoons, or get-togethers of a weekend. There is a pleasant mixture of both short and long term residents here and mostly, we somehow end up with a good bunch. It is a very warm and welcoming place to spend your time in Sydney.

If you're after peace and quiet or safety, don't book here. Limited TV. No Wi-Fi. Limited kitchen facilities (only 2 stoves for 31 rooms). There are only 3 car park spaces. More disturbingly one of the residents has keys to the rooms and unauthorised access occurs.
