Having moved to the region almost a year ago I have brought friends and family here on several occasions, however the last visit really seemed to shine a light on the feeling I had had for quite a while. The current owners/managers are "just over it." I can also support this theory by the recent advertisements in the local papers...

This grand old lady is such a icon of the town. Loved the balcony overlooking such a gorgeous river In an ideal setting. Tree Ferns overload, magical. Great country hospitality and generous good meals make this place special. Basic rooms to more upmarket accomodation standout as very inexpensive compared to surrounding prices of other accomodation This.makes for a bargain stay....

Frankly, my wife wasn't overly hungry and I felt like s small meal, so we dropped by the Alpine, checked the menu and indulged in - most importantly, a very cold pint of beer. I ordered a bacon burger (not sure if this was the name they gave it), and I have to say that it was darn good eating....

We arrived in Warburton on a Tuesday at Christmas time and the only place open for dinner was Alpine Retreat. We noticed lots of negative reviews on tripadvisor when we were researching a place to have dinner which worried us but we didn't have much choice. We were pleasantly surprised! Truthfully, I think you just need to order a typical...

A midweek dinner. Hotel was tired but main issue was the food at dinner. The pulled lamb was average with unusual ingredients added eg onions without that being indicated on the menu. The kangaroo and emu were over cooked, as were the "sweet potatoe" fries. If you want to have kangaroo on the menu, the chef needs to know how...

We booked a family room which was adequate - clean bedding but an old hotel so pretty tired. Unfortunately the door handle to the bathroom was too high for the kids but the door leading out of the room was perfectly accessible and not lockable from the inside so the 4 yr old became an escapologist! Meals were good pub...

Lovely, old façade. Great location, across the road from the Yarra River. However, the amenities are tired and need renovating. We had a river view room. Our room connected to a small verandah where smoking was allowed. We were woken all hours of the night and early morning by smokers chatter and the smell of smoke in the room. The...

There are not much dining options in Warbuton in the evening so we really didn't have a choice on where to go for dinner at 7.00pm. The Alpine Hotel was open and I read great reviews on the chicken parmys so we gave it a try. I expected the hotel to look run down from the reviews, and it was....

I took my son, daughter in law and kids out for dinner to the Alpine retreat hotel in Warburton, the kids had chips & nuggets, while the adults had porterhouse steak, it all tasted very nice, unfortunately my daughter in law found some hair in her meal, she spoke to the manager about it, and the cost of the meal...
