#3 of 3 hotels in Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve
Travellers' Choice
In the early 1980s, Francis Ford Coppola visited Belize, immediately fell in love with the location, and purchased the abandoned Blancaneaux Lodge. For more than a decade the resort was used as a family retreat before Francis opened his tropical paradise to the public in 1993. Tucked away in a pocket of the Maya Mountains, Blancaneaux Lodge is a 20-room luxury resort where waterfalls tumble into turquoise pools above the jungle canopy. Its remote mountain setting makes it a perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and enjoy life’s simple pleasures.

Loved our stay at Blancaneaux. The location, food, service - all amazing. The staff is so incredibly relaxed and hospitable. Not one complaint, only praise. Everyone is amazing (in general, throughout Belize, we found the people who live there to be wonderful). Our room was comfortable including the bed. Bathrooms are not huge, but we don't spend a ton of time in the room generally anyway. The food was amazing - literally the only miss was overcooked steak we ordered for room service, but probably not a great choice for transportation). Breakfasts are incredible. You could totally get away with just the continental they provide, but we always added something to it - oatmeal, homemade sausage, bacon, oatmeal pancakes that are to die for, etc. Even if you just had the complimentary part, it is served to the table. Everything is so fresh and their gardens are amazing. The salads were perfection. Can't say enough about the food, which is a completely different menu and recipes than Turtle Inn. We rented a car, which was a cost-savings in transportation to and from the resort, but also with the ability to do excursions on our own. We just happen to like the flexibility and privacy of our own transportation. We used Crystal Car rental right at the airport and were delighted. That said, the road are 100% not marked so get very specific directions from the lodge. We got directions from Turtle Inn but not super detailed and we missed the turn off going both directions when retracing.

We stayed at this lovely property without much preparation as to what it was or all it offered. To say it is unique would be an understatement. Dozens of acres of pristine jungle with a charming river running between it, the many villas each have a wonderful rugged but refined charm. The sounds of the jungle envelop you. Dining and amenities abound and help is never far away...simply pick up the one of a kind 'shell phone' and all your needs are met. To us, the highlights of this leg of the vacation were the adventures and excursions nearby. We booked these through the lodge and they did a superb job. We did the ATM cave and the trip to Caracol. Our guide at Caracol, Virgil Coh, deserves special mention. His passion and incredibly in-depth knowledge on the history of this important Mayan city, the culture, language and story was all so immersive. If you stay here, so this tour and ask for Virgil. The dining and (of course) wine list were excellent. Take in all of the dining options if your trip allows. Breakfast ordered the night before and delivered direct to your bungalow, right on time, every time, was a feat I must say impressed me greatly, as we were off to our daily adventures early, but they never kept us waiting. A truly memorable experience and I'd highly recommend to anyone looking at this part of the world.

This place is absolutely amazing! The food is amazing, the property is beautiful. Greeted by the manager, bags immediately taken to the room, given delicious complimentary drinks and an explanation of all the features of the resort and then escorted to our villa. The customer service here was the absolute best I have ever received before in all the places I have traveled to. Marty was an amazing server we met the first night, super personable, remembered all of our names, made us feel so welcome. We liked him so much we followed him the next two nights based on the restaurants he was working at. The tours were amazing - Renee was our personal favorite tour guide - so knowledgeable and friendly! Johnathan was another server we really liked that went up and above for us! I only wished we had stayed here longer. Falling asleep to the sound of the waterfall, night swims in the hot pool, cocktails on the patio amidst the jungle, the ceviche (ordered it daily), all amazing. And everyone here makes you feel like royalty. If you are contemplating booking this place, stop contemplating it and just do it.

We landed at Blancaneaux on our second leg of our Thanksgiving trip to Belize. We had stayed at the Turtle Inn earlier in the week, so our expectations were high. Blancaneaux did not disappoint. This resort tucked away in the Pine Forest is so special. The winding path that leads you to your own cabana is amazing (and even a little exercise). The staff was lovely and so accommodating. Another welcome drink upon arrival as we were introduced to the resort. After settling in our two bedroom villa, we heading to the prettiest hot tub on the planet earth! We enjoy two amazing and not to miss adventures during our stay, Caracol and ATM Cave. Both were rich in history. Our guides were kind and informational. The cave seemed a bit intimidating but well worth the adventure! A not to miss! The lodge organized the transportation and our lunch both days. We just had to show up on time! We enjoyed all meals but try and dine in the organic garden one evening. A true treat! Thank you beautiful Blancaneaux!
