This is definitely THE place to stay for a relaxing, peaceful, and refreshing getaway. The scenery is absolutely beautiful. The deck overlooking the Guadalupe River was the best! The room was extremely clean. The bed was comfortable. The check in and check out process was so simple and convenient.

DEAD BUGS in BED!!! HORRIBLE Customer Service I never write bad reviews but being told I could not get refunded is unacceptable. Called and was told they couldn’t do anything until the next day. We had to find somewhere else to stay and then decided we were NOT comfortable going back lane sleeping in a bed with that many dead bugs. Also BUG nests on the wall…

We were there during Covid. The river view from the porch was relaxing. Wish we could have enjoyed it more but it was chilly! The porch is shared with other guests. We think there was only one other place rented on the property. Even though there is a full size refrigerator, there is only a microwave. We could not find a grill. The unit we stayed in (Rio Grande) was on the end and thankfully we were able to pull the car up to the walkway to unload as there is no back door as are on other units. The only complaint was the AC/Heat unit - we needed heat! It is in the bedroom and kept going off and on all night and then made a whistling noise so it was finally just turned it off. The fireplace saved us! The bed was super comfy. We never saw any employees while there as a result of Covid but that was not a problem. The area around the Hideout appears to have plenty for families or couples to enjoy. I would recommend this place to anyone wishing to enjoy what the river and area has to offer

My husband and I booked the Luxury Honeymoon Suite (Cabin #18, The Alamo) for our 10-year anniversary/babymoon. We were hoping for a quiet, private, romantic stay but were ultimately disappointed with our cottage. Pros: Our cottage had a nice view of the Guadalupe River and a nice bathroom. Hideout on the Horseshoe provided free tubing to it’s guests from 10am-4pm. Cons: Upon arrival to our cottage, we found several dead insects on the floor which did not appear to have been vacuumed in a long time. The bedroom contained one FULL size bed (falsely advertised as a Queen) and was not as clean as expected considering the COVID-19 pandemic. There was dust caked on the walls, ceiling fans, and blinds. The French doors in the bedroom were covered with grime on the outside hindering the view of the river outside. It was also not clear until we arrived that cabins 17 & 18 share a patio giving no privacy from your neighbor. Our neighbors were a large group (5-10 people) who were extremely loud and ignored the company’s request that noise be kept to a minimum after 10pm. Also note that the complex backs up to a busy road so there is a lot of traffic noise as well. My husband and I made the best of our stay due to the no refund policy if booked less than 45 days out but were expecting better for $850 for 2 nights!

This was my first time at the hideout. My boyfriend and had been in isolation since this covid-19 hit our city and before I lost my mind in isolation my boyfriend told me we were going for a drive and we ended up at the Hideout. For 2 days I had a river, fishermen, mountains, outdoor fire place, and the amazing star in our skies at night. Nobody bothered us we were able to just breathe; and compose ourselves to go back to work as essential employees for the state. Thank you for giving us our sanity back.

#8 had quite a few issues, fridge wouldn't get cool, finally turned it completely off & turned it back on & it began cooling, we called the after hour # but she said they couldn't get a tech or swap fridges, kitchen sink had no pressure, luckily my husband is a plumber & fixed it, bathtub faucet drips, toilet gets hung up, stairs to the loft are steep but that’s pretty normal for a loft, didn’t spend much time down at the water, it’s quite the walk but having tubing included was a huge plus, a shuttle to the concert was great too!

We got there early before check in time. They gave us our passes to get in the water anyway. When we got to our room it was nice and clean. They call it a 3 bedroom but the 3rd bed is in the living room. Other than that we had a very new stay with a good view. We also had a visitor over night that got into our outdoor trash can both nights.

The location is great but that’s about it! If you like noisy places to sleep this is your place . The walls are like paper .Our neighbors literally screamed and hollered all night . There is no security on premises to do anything about . Their POLICY is that after 10:00 pm it’s quiet time . That’s a joke ! And the stairs to the loft are horrible. Sad to say I cannot recommend this location.

When you are looking for that special place you spend time looking at web sites and reading reviews to find that special place. We thought we had found that place, a private cabin overlooking the river from our private deck as we enjoyed a glass of wine and our sorroundings, until we arrived. They had called us a few hours before we got there to tell us the office would be closed and the key was under the mat, we would be in cabin 14. So when we arrived we looked for cabin 14. Guess what, they aren't numbered, they only have cute names. We found a name we thought we remembered when we made the reservation and the key was under the mat. When we got into the cabin, wait, there are no cabins, there are a series of rooms in a long building (like an old motel) who all share a walk way that over looks the river, but wait, there was no overlooking the river because the trees and vegetation are so un kept that you can't see the river anymore, even though the pictures on the web site shows something completely different. We did see the collection of beer cans, pizza boxes and other trash just below the private deck overlooking the lost in the woods river, but wait, there is no private deck, a few chairs outside the room on a walkway that connects all the cabins, opps I mean rooms. Our room was suppose to have two queen beds, which it did, but they were located in the loft and the only way to get up there was to climb an attic stair like ladder that is a legal action waiting to happen. It was so steep and the steps were so small you had to turn your feet sideways to catch the step on the way down and considering the bathroom was on the lower level, a mid night trip to the can could prove to be fatal. With this as a concern we called the off site, now closed office and got to listen to the recording that told us just that, they were closed. We found an emergency number, called it and finally spoke to someone who was kind enough to send a housekeeper over to move us to the room next door. Although we appreciated the attempt, the result was terrible. The new room had a double bed and a futon type thing as beds, but wait, the website showed couches in the rooms, not what we had reserved for sure. The room also didn't have hot water! Called the emergency number again, someone showed up 30 minutes later, reset the hot water heater and about an hour and a half later the water was starting to get warm. So now here we are, in this room that doesn't come anywhere close to what we had seen on line and thought we reserved, sitting on a futon looking out the door across the deck, I mean walkway, towards the river, that can't be seen because of the vegetation. Yep this is what we reserved, I am sure of it. So now the sun sets and its time to catch a little sleep, I say a little because that is all that was possible. The extra bed, the futon, was like sleeping on balled up laundry stuffed in a big bag. There is no way this could be advertised as an additional bed, no way, but it was! The next morning we got to know the people in the next cabin, a I mean room, don't want to mislead, as every word they said could be easily heard through the wall. There goes privacy! Enough, we had had it. We were suppose to stay another night, but we packed up and found the off site office. We requested a refund for the 2nd night. They reluctantly refunded the second night, but wouldn't budge on the first night even though they down graded us to a cheaper room that they moved us to! So, as I said, we spend a lot of time looking at web sites and reading reviews, sometimes to find out its all just male cow droppings, or maybe our experience was just a comedy of errors, or maybe just maybe we believed what we read on the website and just expected more than they could deliver, maybe! With all this said, stay somewhere else!,Find a crappy little old run down hole in the wall motel and stay there, its got to be better and cheaper, than what we experienced!
