Quiet Hill Ranch is a quiet hide-a-way in the Texas Hill Country. A 6th generation ranching family welcomes you to their unspoiled ranch that has a natural charm and grace.
It’s been a few years. My Bestfriend and I decided at last minute to travel to Austin Texas. We stopped at a tourist center and browsed at the brochures. Quiet Hill ranch sounded so great. I called the number on the brochure. This very nice lady answered the phone. The good news we could rent a cabin. There is no bad news to this review. The views were spectacular. Snoopy visited us as well as donkey and horse. We dined at an excellent restaurant. We stared at nature and we laughed. The memory of this trip brings me peace. I remember the view of the Texas horizon. I just smile.

Quiet Hill is a wonderful place to gather with family ! Three daughters and their families have joined us there for two years in a row, Planning to go again. WAY off the beaten path, north of Fredericksburg, Tx, Quiet Hill is a four cabin and lodge compound that sits on a --quiet hill !! Enjoy outdoor salt water swimming pool, gathering chicken eggs, watching the large variety of birds and wildlife in the observatory (windows open so you hear it all too), games in the lodge, watching glorious star filled skies. nice cabins with the necessities-- and all very clean and well tended. This is a place where you can run around, sit around, play around and not bother a soul or be bothered by traffic, trains, noisy neighbors or worries. Owners are down the hill but unseen and never disturb you. Kids have formed great memories at Quiet Hill, so have we.…

We had our first official Cousin reunion and first visit to Quiet Hill Ranch. The Ranch was far better than we ever imagined!! We were so overwhelmed on how peaceful, beautiful, and clean the ranch was. The Whatley's were very kind hosts that are honest and trustworthy. The Lodge was perfect for our cousin gathering!! All ages from 9yo to 86yo had a terrific time!! We enjoyed gathering eggs from the hens in the barn, walking trails, swimming in the limestone pool, enjoying breathtaking views, and watching the many species of birds in the observatory. The barn cat, Snoopy, was the sweetest, best cat ever!! Our family wanted a place to remind us of farm life from our ancestors and the ranch met all and more of our expectations!! Memories were made on the ranch to last a lifetime!! Our hearts were full after spending quality time together on the ranch. Several cousins want to return. Quiet Hill Ranch is perfect for family gatherings!! There was no internet or wifi, but we were not there for that. The purpose for being on a ranch is being with family and not being stuck in a cabin on the internet. Thank you so much, Jim and Cindy, for making this all happen and our visit most enjoyable!! God bless you!…

We had our relatives from Europe in for a Texas style family reunion and a 50th wedding anniversary. We rented four cottages and had the hill to ourselves. Nice place to watch birds and deer. The only sounds were of nature and family! We even catered in the meal for the anniversary instead of the cooking ourselves. Great spot and hosts!

This is a spectacular rustic ranch in the hill country, NW of Fredericksburg, Texas. The place is remote enough and high on a hill, that you simply cannot hear anything other than the wildlife that surrounds the place. The views around the ranch are awesome and the sunrise ever so beautiful. The lodge is complemented by 4 cabins which are clean and relatively spacious for couples or families. The lodge itself is the central hub with ample Texas style seating, big dining area, large kitchen with plenty of cooking utensils, and additional bathrooms. The place is very much a ranch with a roaming horse and friendly donkey that adds to the aura of the country life. We travelled with friends and took all of the cabins. There was plenty of hot water in the cabin bathrooms and everything inside was well maintained. We never used the TVs that were available and only stayed a minimal amount in the cabins and preferred our stay within the lodge. It does get very dark at night so take a flash light with you. Expect some critters as this is the wild and have fun with the ranch cat who loves to hang out with you. The pool was cold but we used it anyways. Wi-Fi is not available but cell service was not too bad. If you want to get away from the city life for a long weekend, I would thoroughly recommend this venue. Also you can reach the wineries around Fredericksburg within 30 minutes.…

We rented all four cabins for our 14-person family, to celebrate my dad's 70th and my sister's 40th. The ranch met and exceeded our expectations. The unique things on this property are the beautiful views and constant breeze on the hill (so welcome in August here!), the huge kitchen for cooking group meals, the amazingly peaceful bird/bunny observatory, the salt-water pool and the playground, and the chicken coop with eggs for collecting. The amenities and cabins are situated so that kids over about 6 or 7 would be safe to roam on their own, so the kids in our group had a blast. The lodge is so well decorated and outfitted that you won't mind the cabins being small -- this ranch provides separate space for when you want to be alone, but is completely comfortable for times when you want to gather. Also, we got excellent cell/internet reception there, FYI. The ranch is about 40 minutes from Fredericksburg, so plan accordingly. And if you have a large group, don't assume you can get in to an area restaurant on short notice...you will need to call ahead.…

Great place with a nice view from the Hill but we were disappointed by a few points: first, the hosts who were not so welcoming as written in other reviews (the less welcoming in our 4000 miles road trip !). From first minutes, you understand everything is ruled and that you pay for what is described in the mail, nothing more. Jim even started to yell at us because our dog tried to play with the horses when he saw them near our cabin . We thought we could leave our dog free near our cabin but at the end, you can not, you have to keep him on leash all time because their horses come on the hill in the morning and they have a donkey who charged our dog several time the following days. You can argue with that when you pay a dog fee equivalent to an extra guest (25 $/day)!! Secondly, the ranch is quite far from fredericksburg (45 min drive) and the ranch was lacking some basic equipment to be a relaxing place: no deck chair by the pool but only an old wood bench, same in the cabins. Finally and contrary to what is mentioned in the description on tripadvisor, there is no breakfast nor internet.…

Glad you enjoyed the beauty of our Quiet Hill Ranch...:) We are NOT pleased you chose to misrepresent us in your review...:( Your dog was NOT leashed as required...even after a warning to keep him on a leash, your dog was chasing our donkey all over...:( Granted I do not respond well to guests such as you who continue to disregard our agreements.

This was a wonderful location for our "after Christmas" family gathering. It was the perfect location for gathering as a large group as well as providing private and quiet spaces. The walking trails are safe with varied views. Fredericksburg's amazing museum and shopping opportunities were a short hop away but the ranch itself has all you need for a pleasurable stay.

We had a graduation party/family get together for 35 ish. The Whatleys were wonderful, went above and beyond in every way. Great views, wonderful wildlife, very quiet, and the stars are absolutely incredible. This is a must stay, especially for larger groups with multiple families.

We came here to get a bit of quiet time with the family and for our two young girls to get in some horse time and we succeeded on both counts. Jim was very considerate, friendly and courteous with the girls (aged two and four) and we enjoyed the short trek through the ranch listening to his stories and discussing the life of a modern day rancher. Jim took our two year old on a short, easy ride first before we headed off on a longer ride with our four year old in the saddle. They loved it, especially our younger one who was very surprised being in the saddle on her own! The cabins are simple but clean and functional and the beds surprisingly comfortable (although the fresh air may have had more to do with the deep sleeping). Being able to prepare and cook in the well equipped lodge kitchen is fantastic with a young family with unusual dietary needs (bring your own food (there's ample storage space in the fridge and freezer for a few days stocks), although if you're lucky you may be fortunate to have some freshly laid eggs from the chicken coup, which my daughters loved collecting). The rooms are equipped with a small fridge (we switched it off since it was a bit noisy and we stored our food in the lodge anyway), a TV (which we didn't use, but it was a CRT one so no HDMI input for your modern gadgets... but we didn't come to watch TV!) and a small heater was plugged in which kept the room toasty when it got cold at night. There's an A/C unit but we didn't try it. As pointed out by other reviewers, the shower is a bit small but was good enough. Be careful though, the hot water in the room is very hot! We bought camping chairs as advised, but found that we didn't really need them as the picnic table and chairs were more than adequate for our needs. If we'd sat around the camp fire then we would have used them. There's a ton of wildlife here. We had to drive very slowly arriving at night with the amount of deer running across the unlit roads and we spotted loads of new (to us) birds without even trying to! The clear skies also make this a fantastic spot for star gazing. The location is well out of the way... it's at least a 30 min drive to Fredericksberg and its nearby attractions, but you will drive through some wonderful countryside on the way. Definitely recommended and would certainly stay again.…
