Courtyard by Marriott has been a stalwart brand specializing in providing business travelers with all the amenities on site for a comfortable and relaxing stay. Not just for business, Courtyard is my go to place for personal travel. It’s like coming home where I find smiling faces and Starbucks on demand. Speaking of Starbucks, the Lobby Bistro has my favorite breakfast fare (bacon and potatoes). The Bistro is open for breakfast until 11AM and reopens at 5PM -11PM for dinner and evening fare and refreshments.

Located in close proximity to the expansive Medical Center (TMC), MRG stadium and a quick jaunt to Houston Hobby Airport. There is a Shuttle Bus available for transport to locations within a 3 mile radius so trips to 60+ TMC medical offices and treatment centers are all accessible.

There is a pool and outdoor area with a fire pit for outdoor relaxation and well equipped exercise room per Courtyard standards. The lobby is quite large with plenty of eating and entertaining options with comfortable and innovative seating. Computers are available and there is a Boarding Pass printing station.

As a regular Marriott patron, I have come to expect friendly and professional service at all Marriott properties. This one is no exception as everyone I met was warm and engaging including the other guests. That is why I always prefer a Marriott brand over any other.

Overall, this is a nice hotel property. Rooms are typical, clean and fairly modern. I have used the exercise facility - it is average and suits my needs just right. The Bistro is typical food and beverages. I enjoy their breakfast burrito and coffee is always just right. The Bistro is pricey, as are all Courtyard Bistros.
The staff is friendly. Check in and check out is simple.
This property is almost next door to a Kroger that has a Starbucks inside, so if you’re looking to use your Starbucks app, go there. And it’s convenient to buy gas at the Kroger too.
The websites like Trip Advisor listing this hotel sometime say free parking- (not the case on Marriott.com) - be warned it will cost $8 per day to park.
I stay here often as it is close to where I need to be, and it is, overall, a nice place to stay.

Spacious clean and friendly! Room was newly remodeled. Carolyn at front desk was extremely helpful and courteous as well as very knowledgeable about the workings of the company systems. The pool was an excellent temperature for this hot time of year but the hot tub/spa was not hot enough. Breakfast was fast service but prices seemed high. There is a big supermarket in very close walking distance.

Will never stay here again. This hotel was awful from the time we arrived. The person that checked us in was expressionless. The room we booked was not available. So we had to take what they had. The bathtub had some weird stuff stuck to the bottom of it that kept coming off in little pieces when we used it. There were bugs in the bathroom light fixture. The only mirrors were in the bathroom which limits where you had to do makeup and hair. You could hear the people in the hall in the middle of the night. We could understand that somewhat except early in the morning we woke up to the people and tv in the room next door. We liked the bistro but, again, most of the servers acted like they didn’t want to be bothered. We won’t be back. Ever. And I’ll won’t stay at another Marriott if I have a choice to stay elsewhere because of this experience.

We are very sorry that we did not live up to your, or our, standards of service during your recent stay with us. We pride ourselves on our high guest satisfaction survey scores, and it is clear we failed to deliver with your stay. Your review will be shared with our entire team. We complete a full preventive maintenance checklist on every room every quarter, and do daily cleaning and inspections to insure we catch items like you described in the review. With noise issues we are happy to address directly with guests when informed, as guests are not always aware they are disturbing others, especially with our close proximity to special events that take place at nearby NRG Stadium/Park. The bathtub issue described is being addressed with the vendor this week, and should be resolved very soon. The work completed in the refurbishment of the tubs is not to the quality promised to us, and it will be taken care of in all rooms impacted. We do appreciate your business, and hope that you will give us another try when in the area, and even consider contacting me directly so that I might have the opportunity to apologize in person.

My wife was undergoing knee replacement surgery at a hospital just a few blocks from this hotel, so we decided that I would stay overnight here. Big mistake. The entry to the hotel was not well-marked, so I actually had to go around the block a couple of times to figure out how to get into the place. The sign that indicated the entry was small, and blocked by some kind of machinery. The entry lane was blocked, because they were painting a new arrow in the lane. So I had to enter via an exit lane.

Upon entering the hotel, I was surprised to learn that, in spite of indications to the contrary, there was NO food service at all, save some microwaveable items and typical hotel junk food. This was allegedly due to the pandemic. As I entered the elevator to go to my room, I noticed the advertisement on the elevator wall for the morning food service and the evening food service. These were still up, in spite of the fact that the pandemic had been with us for more than 7 months.

The room , itself, was clean and there were plenty of towels. I'm glad I only needed to stay there one night.

At least the hospital had a coffee shop.

Thank you for your feedback, and for the compliments on the hotel room cleanliness. I apologize for the issues you experienced during your stay. On the day referenced, the entrance that we share with the business next door was undergoing some freshening of the directional paint and striping. We were not made aware of this prior to the work beginning, and have communicated the importance of them letting us know in advance in the future so that we can be certain our guests can enter the hotel and find the direction more easily. I'm very sorry that the closing of the Bistro impacted your stay negatively. We understand the frustration this may cause especially when traveling due to medical reasons, as you may not feel up to leaving the hotel. Our industry has been severely impacted by the sharp decline in travel, and we are looking at ways to reopen soon for at least a breakfast and Starbucks option. Based on your feedback, we are looking at options for the elevator signage you mentioned. We did update websites, but removing of the signage if the closure is temporary will cause damage to the elevator walls. We are in uncharted territory, and are doing the best we can to maintain a safe and clean environment, and take care of our guests. We appreciate your understanding in these difficult times.

Staying Now 6/26/21

Not at all up to at least what Marriott standards were.

Pool- Trash, cigarette butts, fountain that is dirty, no tables or umbrellas. No towels. Been that way for two days nothing changed.

Not at like the pictures.

Just today 7:00am. I ask where would I find coffee. Was told be rude staff at front desk opens in 4 minutes. Did not look up did not say good morning.

Rooms have no microwave shampoo out it the bathroom.

It seems like they just don't care.

Marriott may need to check this place if the name is going to stay attached to it.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review of our property. Your experience is not to your, or our, expectations and is not indicative of a typical stay in our hotel. We are very sorry that it was your experience, as we would never want any guests impression to be what yours was. We have shared your experience with out team and are working hard to meet our guests expectations. While supply chain problems can explain why we have not been able to keep enough pool towels, not being attentive to our guests is not something we accept or are used to hearing, and we will act to fix this.

Filthy hotel with trash that stays stacked in corridors for days (I was there 4 nights and saw the same empty pizza box next to the elevators on the 2nd floor). Masks? Not even the staff are wearing them. Rooms are dated and furniture is scuffed, damaged and dirty.

Nice spacious rooms with comfortable bed. Lobby was very nice. If that’s all you need then this is a great place. Our problem was on Trip Request it mentions free parking. That’s not the truth. They charge for parking. We were told to park our car where we could see it from the window- some issues with people breaking into cars. Since we got charged for parking I expected to see security. We stayed 3 days- never saw any security.
No microwave in room. We sure didn’t expect that. No coffee in lobby area unless you bought it from Starbucks.
Used the shuttle to go back and forth to MD. One evening I called at 7:20 and we got dropped off the shuttle at 8:30. We even drove right by the motel. Said we got MD rates but I don’t think happened at all. It was pretty expensive. Now at another motel with free breakfast and lower price.

The hotel lobby area was large and recently redecorated. It was great. The room was a little older but nice, clean and surprisingly large for what we paid. My only complaint was the water pressure was a little low but otherwise a great stay. My son Also liked the pool. It was small but not crowded.

I need to know if I’m an MD Anderson patient, does the discount apply every day? Because they have been charting us $149 a night as the discounted rate but last night they said it didn’t apply? We are also both loyalty members which should be in their computer yet we never get any discounts. This hotel is maybe a 3 star hotel at best!!!! They have no room service, no heated pool, & the exercise equipment is minimal & outdated!!!! We only stay here b/c it’s close to MD Anderson! There are much nicer hotels in the vicinity that are a lot less. The Houstonian which is where we usually stay is $269 & they have the top fitness facility in Houston, an unbelievable spa & shuttle to MD Anderson!!! It’s a 5+ star hotel with great food, fabulous rooms, & everything you could ever want or need!! As well as doctors in the fitness facility. They just didn’t have enough days for us or we would be there!!! This hotel is way overpriced at $229 That’s what they charged us yesterday saying that my medical didn’t apply!!! How is that even possible??? We have been staying here for almost a month b/c the condo we bought was being renovated & we were going to move in yesterday but my husbands Mother died Monday night so unfortunately we had to extend our stay. I’m very sick & didn’t want to pack & move to a different hotel as my husband wanted to. I’m just trying to understand the pricing & why you advertise discounts for patients at MD Anderson but they have not applied them numerous times. I have a rare skull cancer & am there almost every day. I gave them my PRN number for MD Anderson as well !!! Please help me to understand ur policies & why the fluctuations in ur pricing should differ from day to day. I’m a stock broker for GS so numbers & fundamentals are of concern for me. My husband is a doctor so he just pays them whatever they say & I wasn’t aware how much he’s been paying until today. A 17% tax makes a $149 room a $175 room so we are already paying a lot to stay here. Please explain these issues to me. Thank you Cindy Taylor Speck
Answer from CY_Med_Cntr_GM
Houston
Mrs. Speck, I would be happy to discuss rates and check availability for you by phone or email directly, but will attempt to address the items you discussed in your message on Trip Advisor. The Medical Rate is a discount rate that is subject to availability. The likelihood of it being available is better if booked farther in advance. As demand increases and occupancy rises the rate will at some point become unavailable. I can understand that you enjoy the Houstonian as it is a beautiful property, and I can not claim to compete with their facilities, but our rates are very competitive for hotels in our area near NRG Stadium and the Texas Medical Center. We monitor the rates at our area hotels, and do not want to be in a position that we are priced so high that we are losing business. If there are specific dates that you would like for me to check, or if I may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out directly (contact information below), as this is not the most reliable method of communication. Thank you for your business, Christopher Pomilla General Manager 832-214-6201
