Detailed Reviews
We stayed at the Magnolia for reunion of retired coworkers. We had a great experience from booking, thank you Tracy Vines Group Sales, through check out. A beautiful historic building with a great location in downtown Houston.
The property is within walking distance to plenty of restaurants and bars including Treebeards, for lunch during the week, across the street in a church hall. Minute Maid Park is within walking distance for the Astros. The Metro light rail stop is only 1 block away to go to the Houston Medical Center and NRG Stadium for the Texans or Houston Rodeo. There is also a CVS on Main St a few blocks away.
Check in was quick and friendly. Our rooms were nice with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. Room was clean, quiet and my bed was comfortable.
There is a restaurant and bar on premises but we did not use it. There is a coffee shop just outside the front door. The valet parking staff were friendly and efficient.
Would definitely return to the Magnolia again. Our group voted to return to Houston in 2023 and the Magnolia will be our first choice to check for availability.

Rooms are first rate, clean, spacious, and a great view of downtown Houston. Ate twice in the hotel, good food, friendly service, and a great atmosphere. Shuttle is available to take guests to downtown destinations, took advantage and enjoyed a musical at the Hobby. Staff is very attentive and friendly.

We visited this property for a marriage retreat. It is clean and very nice. The room was too dark to put on makeup easily in the morning. There was a makeup mirror in the room, but it was of little help. The bed was comfortable. The check-in smooth and Valet service quick. Valet service is extra fee, but best way to handle parking. There was a family in the room next to ours that began very loud talking, laughing, etc. at 5:30am. Our group had special arrangements for meals that were served to our meeting room area. It was good, but nothing exceptional. My favorite was the rice pudding. Great location to Theater District. Wish I could go with 5 stars, but just wasn't there for us on this visit.

We chose this hotel because it's considered a "boutique" hotel, and it's close to Buffalo Bayou Park, where my husband likes to go running in the morning while I sleep in. It's a bit of a dump. The lobby area looks trendy and nice, but the rooms are nothing special. Our window was cracked all the way across, and the paint was peeling on the window trim. The bathroom was large and had two sink areas, which was nice, and there was a mini fridge, microwave, and wet bar sink in the room. But that's where the good part ends. The rooftop pool and lounge area was tiny, dirty, and the patio furniture was in bad shape. The hot tub was drained and had yellow tape around it to block it off. The pool is absolutely tiny. You have to walk through the gym to get to the pool and lounge area. The view of downtown was nice, if you could ignore that you were standing on the ugliest rooftop in downtown Houston. All in all, we were disappointed. We much prefer the Hotel Icon, and will stay there again next time.

Dear scrapulous, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay. I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed regarding the pool. We do try to inform guests that the pool area is small by referring to the pool as a plunge pool. I apologize if we were performing some maintenance during your stay and hope you will be able to return in the future to experience the area more fully. Sincerely, Eddie Timmons

This is a fancy and expensive hotel, but it is located in a very bad part of downtown. The area is filled with homeless and panhandlers who are quite aggressive. You spend 20 minutes outside waiting for your valet to bring your car, and panhandlers approach you asking for money, and hotel is not doing anything about it.
The rooms are nice and big but the pillows are small and uncomfortable.
The rooms don't get cleaned. Many hotels are now charging double price while skimping on a cleaning service. This is one of them.
Valet takes 20 minutes to bring your car. There is a warning outside so you can't complain, but it's not acceptable.
All in all, not worth the price.

Spent valentines weekend night here as a staycation and to have dinner downtown. Valet and check in were easy and the room was clean. All of the services were closed except for the gym and outdoor swimming pool. The hotel lobby is so small and with the wind blowing in as the doors opened, was freezing. For an older hotel, this place just has no ambiance. Got back to our room Saturday evening and about 11:30PM our floor erupted into a major party brawl, with angry yelling, doors slamming, women crying. We called down to the front desk and complained, so not sure what happened, but the noise went on for another 45 minutes. I think to save money the hotels are packing everyone onto the same floors and same corners of the floor, which kind of defeats the whole covid thing you would think. We saw all of the people checking in carrying cases of soda and handles of whiskey, so were hoping they would be on another floor. Anyway, I am a multi year Marriott Platinum, and see no reason to return to the Magnolia ever. BTW- the toilet leaked and not even a bottled water in the room

Dear Viequesbeachbum, Thank you for your recent stay with us. I certainly apologize if the current service restrictions due to COVID affected your stay. We have halted most of our amenities due to the safety of our staff and guests and communicate that through our pre arrival email. I certainly will review and see where we failed to address your issues on the guest floor. Thank you again and we do hope to see you again in the future. Sincerely, Eddie Timmons

For the price I paid to stay 2 nights at this hotel, I was not impressed. I expected much more at that price point! I called the front desk our 2nd night there because we had no hot water to take a shower. The first night the water was warm, but not hot, but we thought maybe there were several guests showering at the same time, so we just dealt with it. The 2nd night the water was not even warm! The front desk sent the repair man, and 5 seconds after turning on the water he said it was some kind of valve and they didn’t have one to replace it. Very odd that he knew that so fast. We were offered to change rooms, but it was after 11:00 PM at that point, and we didn’t want to have to pack everything up and move that late at night. We were brought keys to a different room that we were allowed to use for a shower. My daughter in law took her shower (not a long one) and then I took mine. Halfway through mine the hot water ran out so I had to finish in cold water. I don’t think there would be many guests showering that late, so that tells me this hotel obviously has inadequate equipment to supply their guests with hot water. I turned on the hot water to the sink in our room before we checked out our last morning there, and the water never got more than luke warm. I guess “the valve” needed to fix the water to the shower needs to be replaced in the sink too. 🤔 Too pricey to have those kind of issues. We’ll stay elsewhere next time.

A nice, clean, well-appointed hotel. The studio rooms are large and decorated nicely. The bathrooms are large with two sinks and an oversized tub. The only issue was that the bathtub drained very slowly. In the time it took to take a short shower, there was 2 inches of water in the tub. The staff is generally very friendly and accommodating. The one exception was the valet staff. Even though we did not rent a car, we could tell the valet staff was an issue. They did not greet any incoming guests and sat around in a way that showed they were completely disengaged. Location is nice if you are planning to attend a sporting event. Short walk to Minute Maid Park. Two minute walk to the rail line that goes to NRG stadium. We were there for the Final Four and could attend all events without renting a car.
We had an issue one day of four with the maid service. Our room was barely touched. New water bottles were left, old towels were taken, trash emptied, but bed was not made. Sheets were pulled up but not tucked in and it looked like someone had been laying on top of the covers all day. Sink, tub, and floors were not cleaned.
As a Platinum Elite member, I opted for the free breakfast option. I checked no fewer than 5 times about this, as it seemed some staff were confused over this. The waiters kept asking me for a coupon, which I did not receive at check in. When I checked out, the front desk said they could not print out an invoice but they would email them to me later that day. Again, they said I was not charged for breakfast. 2 1/2 days later, no invoice by email. I pulled the invoice from the Marriott website and found that I was charged for breakfast every day.
Breakfast was pretty much average for a Marriott property. Lunch/dinner was slightly above average. I do need to commend the restaurant staff for staying open late for the weekend. The basketball games ended late. I was surprised to find that we could get food after midnight. that was a pleasant surprise that helped avoid the lousy food at NRG Stadium.

Alex in valet is the only reason this hotel is getting 5 stars. He was AMAZING!!! Gyasi kept the team going with the shuttle as well with no wait. The overall hotel is outdated, i didn’t have a refrigerator until i kept going to the front desk for one, especially with staying there 5 days. I had requested towels and tissue, after about 30 mins of the request i left to come back and see that House keeping entered my room when i had a privacy sign on the door especially with my dog being in the room.

We were traveling for work, arrived a little early, no problem our rooms were ready. We were greeted by Norton Holiday who had a smile and welcomed us to the property. He thanked us for choosing the Magnolia and quickly checked us in, providing all the pertinent information, especially about the Mandatory Cookie and Milk table. The rooms were clean and fresh, with views of the downtown area. The valet parking was on spot and delivered our vehicle in a timely manner. Overall this is a very nice property that I would stay at again.

We do not have a shuttle from the airport. We suggest either a taxi or Uber. Safe travels.
I do not have the exact answer on this one. As one of the others suggested, I'd call them to get clarification between the rooms.
The hotel restaurant offers a full buffet daily for $18.50 as well as a la carte. There are also restaurants surrounding the hotel.
I think it’s done and they’re up and running at “full steam”🤗
None of.the rooms have a spa tub. They are garden tubs...deep but no jets
