The Holiday Host Motel in Sonora is your classic old school motel right out of the 1950s. It's located on what used to be the main east-west highway into and out of Sonora - Loop 467 (old US 290), before the completion of Interstate 10 back in the early to mid 1970s. My wife and I stayed here for a night in August 2020 while on vacation and sightseeing in the hill country area of Texas and were very pleased. This is the best deal in town (under $60 per night including tax) and is perfect for the budget minded no frills type of traveler. Don't expect a 5-star hotel with all the amenities, but if what you are looking for is a simple, clean and relaxing place to rest your head while on the road, this is the place to go in Sonora. The room and the bathroom were both clean and the air conditioner worked well cooling off the room nicely. I'm a big fan of these classic motels and I especially liked the old style cinder block walls in the room. The room came furnished with a modern flat screen TV, small microwave and small refrigerator. The entire outside property was well kept. For those who must have internet, there is WIFI (I usually try and get away from the internet as much as possible while on vacation). The only thing that kept me from giving the property five stars was the fact that it had a pool but it was completely empty. A nice, clean, attractive and functioning pool would be an added bonus for this motel. This aside, the Holiday Host Motel is a good value and perfectly adequate. Why pay more at a ubiquitous chain motel? This will be the place my wife and I stay if we are ever in Sonora again.

Simple room, clean, and very good price. Can’t complain for $50. We stayed here for the night after a long day on I-10 with heavy rain. It had the best price. It’s not a luxury room but it had exactly what we needed to stop, and continue on our journey.

I called ahead to Motel 6 in Sonora on a Tuesday - the clerk quoted me $10 more than the Motel 6 website for a single - over $70. So I explored my options. This note is on the east end of town. It has parking for a truck & trailer. Clean - comfortable - WiFi - cable tv. Will stay again.

Don’t believe the web site. The rooms are old and plain but adequate if everything else is full, but don’t expect to receive the little extras as advertized. The Indian? proprietor answered our door bell ring without a shirt and with a very heavy accent that was hard to understand. No working ice machine, but the proprietor pointed to a mini ice maker in the lobby with a sign that said that guests are expected to pay for ice. The booking site advertized a pool and claimed that coffee machines are available in rooms, but this was not the case - no pool or coffee maker. When I returned the key to the office the advertized free continental breakfast did not exist, not even coffee. I stayed here because of it’s proximity to the Caverns Of Sonora, but, if I was to make the choice again I’d pay the extra couple of bucks and stay elsewhere.

Located close to Sonora caverns. Clean and safe, satisfying my two requirements. Rooms have fridge, micro and TV. Nothing at all fancy. Reminded me of typical motels in the 50's. Assume pool available in warm weather. Currently drained. Cereal, coffee, juice and toast provided for breakfast.
