Birds, birds, birds. Sit at a platform and don't move for an hour or so. Have your camera ready, you will be rewarded. It is mid-May and I got a room in the WPA-era court, drove all day and splashed in the natural spring water for 3 hours. Heaven. Camping is good here, too. Reserve ahead. One of my favorite...

The rooms are very suitable and cozy. A short walk from the pool and there are paths nearby to enjoy the cienega and restored nature areas. The courts were built in the 30's by the CCC but have been remodeled and have everything you need for a comfortable stay. Make sure to book plenty in advance as they do fill...

I am a SCUBA diver. I came for the springs. State park cabins are generally clean, but time always takes a toll so don't expect Embassy Suites. So if you are diver or snorkler you will be in for a very pleasant experience in the high desert of West Texas. The water has a visability of about 30-50 feet depending...

We were pleasantly surprised with the rooms on the state park. It was clean with a concrete floor. Unfortunately, the shower head was useless, but there was warm water. It was silent at night and generally dark. You could see the stars great!!! Bring your own shampoo, soap, conditioner. There was a mini fridge, which we appreciated for leftovers and...

The San Solomon Spring Courts are very basic, and that's great. If you stay here, you really get a feel for what it would be like to visit this West Texas oasis in the 1930's for a respite. We stayed in room 101 and while spartan it was clean. The courts retain much of the same character they had when...

I’ve never used a Texas State Park overnight so maybe I don’t know the reality of public accommodations, however, how did we let our state government get so overloaded w/ “health & human services” that the operating budget for State Parks System is so meager? I’m sure the staff at Balmorhea State Park labors diligently and is over-worked maintaining the...

I gave it 4 stars for being as described/meeting expectations. This isn't a four star hotel though. It is more like staying in a cabin and a step up from camping out. The walls are very thick which meant it was quiet. The room was clean. The bed was comfortable. The furnishings are very sparse, but we knew that before...

Stayed here in unit 18, one of two king bed only units, for one night on our trip from Big Bend through the Davis Mountains. After staying the previous night in Indian Lodge the unit here did not meet those high standards. We arrived at 6pm after the office closed and picked the key up from an envelope with my...

This is one of those places that you would rather keep to yourself as a secret. However, I think the secret is already out judging from the difficulty to find a vacancy during popular summer months. The courts are a rustic collection of old motor hotel style bungalows and nearby travel trailer campground lots. The jewel in this rusty old...

My wife and I with our two kids and their friends decided to go camping at Balmorhea State Park. The kids pitched their tents while my wife and I, being old and out of shape, stayed at the little motel they have on the State Park property call the San Solomon Courts. The park has a gigantic pool which is...
