The Water Lilly, Uncertain, Texas is a slice of heaven on earth. During my visit there, May 2017, I was graced by Patience, The Resident (brownish/red) Fox - twice, Porter The Turtle, & Angel The Hawk (There actually 2 hawks that sit in the back yard tree.) Then there are the dragon & butter flies & vast assortment of birds from humming to whooping cranes. Sunday, late afternoon, I was sitting on the back porch watching the squirrels playing in the trees, the birds & butterflies flitting about, & listening to the sounds of the swamp whilst enjoying a cool mimosa scented breeze. The sounds of the birds & frogs grew louder & louder – then the “on the menu” cry pierced the air; lunch was served. Hmmm…did Patience, the light brownish/red fox, get what sounded like a nice sized bird? As the not so distant low pitched growl/roar emitted from the marsh with a quickened rush, so did Patience at a full run, clutches empty! She stops, looks behind her for the gator. Amen, she was not followed! She scopes out her surroundings, darts to her entrance of the swamp – on the other side of the yard & then poof, all is back to normal. It’s the height of gator season here, you must be on alert but, the snakes scare me more than gators. There are 2 other regular critters that share the yard. Porter, The Turtle who huffs it across the drive & yard with a slug on her back & Angel, The Hawk (there are 2 of them but, I cannot tell them apart.) who perches in the back porch tree & watches me. Vacationing in a swamp is quite nice! There are so many species of birds here & they fly right past the windows. No sign of Shrek yet… Dottie & Billy Carter are wonderful, kind & gracious hosts; their homes away from home are beautiful! They will go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable & pleased during your visit. During my time there, I also stayed at Spatterdock which is just as magnificent with its extensive catwalk & variety of nature to enjoy. Please take the time to go on a tour of the Caddo Lake. Somehow, Caddo Lake has the ability to transform stress into relaxation. I will be returning soon!…
