By far, the best feature about this hotel is the location to the mountain. Pretty much everything else fell below expectations. The building and the rooms are very old, and the furnishings also appeared to be from the 1950's. I instantly felt like I was in my grandmother's old house. The walls are extremely thin, and while I don't like to think of myself as a particularly picky guest, I was pretty upset when our loud next door neighbors came in an hour after going to sleep and we heard every single word for the next hour. There were no drinking glasses in the room, and because the sink hardware was so old and low, we could barely fill a water bottle. There were cobwebs in the bathroom. The bath towels were incredibly old and stringy - the ones in my own house aren't even half that bad, and I think they need replaced - I can't believe a hotel gets away with using such grubby towels. The parking lot had not been shoveled or plowed, and was basically a sheet of ice. The staff seemed nice enough, and the location is great, but the facilities were a huge disappointment. This place wasn't cheap either - we paid $160/night. We will not be staying here again.

My son and I stayed at Stones on 3/8/2014 for one night, prior to skiing at Stratton. You couldn't ask for a better location. The staff was very friendly. The motel is old, but it fairly good condition. Don't expect good wi-fi. We really couldn't get any in room 13 (yikes!). But the room was clean and the bed comfortable. No refrigerator that I saw. Although Stone's advertises and tells you that breakfast is included, breakfast was...less than par. Bagels and orange juice. A broken toaster. There was a sign pinned up that the kitchen was closed due to a fire--a terrifying thought in an old, wooden building, but there was not sign of a fire. We liked the place and I don't know of a lot of better options in the area, so I's stay again. Don't miss Whisky Dick's tavern down the road--it was excellent for dinner.

Oh dear, too many complaints! To start with our door looked as if it had just been kicked in and the lock hastily repaired. One of the duvet's had mildew on it and none of the sheets fitted the beds properly. The walls are paper thin so you can hear every cough, sneeze and late night phone call from the next room. By far the biggest complaint was breakfast which is supposed to be served between 8-10am. My husband went downstairs to find an empty space where breakfast should have been. Yes, the staff had forgotten daylight savings started that morning so consequently no breakfast therefore disgruntled customers!

Not sure how I missed all the other poor reviews. Mine will join them. The attractive owner you see in the website: never saw her, not Friday night, not Saturday morning. Yana (as well as Daniel and Vincent), this is ski season. Spend some time at your inn, keep the place up, serve your clients, your paying customers. The room: mismatched paint, stained carpets, second hand mismatched furniture. The bed: comfortable enough, I sure hope those sheets were clean. They were wrinkled and I did not want to think too hard about what I might be sleeping on. The breakfast: stale bagels and lukewarm coffee, and a slow, cheap toaster for the bagels (DIY, of course). No tables for breakfast. Grab your food and a paper plate and go back to your crummy room. The help: two Argentine college (?) students. Nice enough, but they are not experienced in the hospitality industry and the second one (Saturday morning) walked around without greeting guests. I hate getting taken. Won't happen again at this place.

There are a few things a hotel room must have to be considered average in my opinion. First, it must me neat and tidy. This should include nice paint and appropriate accompaniments. This room lacked all. It looked like someone had slapped a coat of cheap (yellow) paint on with a roller. They didn't even take the time to cut the trim in. The bathroom door didn't shut all the way and in fact had been cut down to fit inside the jam. The door handle to the room was loose to the point it could have been easly opened. The bathroom was outdated and the shower was well, I'm not sure if I was cleaner when I started? The entry was dirty and delapetaded. There were ski lockers but some had bottoms that were missing so you could see the contents from the raised locker. What a shame as this place has huge potential. Such a great location. Oh, the restaurant was closed as well. An earlier post made mention of a fire in the restaurant but there was no mention as far as we could tell though there was a distinct oder of smoke I will say there appears to be two distinct areas of the building. Perhaps the other rooms were nicer. No matter. You know what they say about first Impressions.
