The Bell house is by far my favorite B&B. I am and will be forever sad that it is closed. Ann was was an always will be a friend and great inn keeper. I hope someone else will love this house as much as she did. God bless.
Anne Boline has passed. This lady was the Queen of Bed and Breakfasts. There was an estate auction and all the furniture and alike are gone. We were lucky patrons . I have several of her Christmas Cactus cuttings that rooted and are prolific in my home.
I didn't want this thread of reviews to end on a sour note. The previous reviewer wants her deposit back and she will get it, in due time. As someone who stayed at Bell House for weeks at a time, and numerous other occasions with my husband, for ten years, I want to say that it's not necessarily the house, or the amenities, but the person running the b&b that makes a stay memorable. Anne Bolin died February 18, 2017. The community of Colonial Beach, Virginia, her family, friends, and regulars at Bell House will miss her greatly. She was a wonderful cook (if you could see that little kitchen and what came out of it!), but more than that she was larger than life. I can still hear her laugh, still see her smile as she opened the door. Anne didn't know a stranger. And she had more stories than a library. I've stayed at many b&b's in my time. This was the only one I came back to time and again, to work, and to relax. Anne was up before the sun and never missed a sunrise over the river. It was her favorite time of day. Anne, I wish you all the perfect sunrises.…
My husband and I had a reservation to stay at the Bell House B and B over President's Day weekend 2017 arriving on Saturday for a two night stay. We received a phone call on Wednesday evening information us the owner was in the hospital and our reservation had to be cancelled. We were promised our deposit would be returned. We understand the situation and waited patiently for a month for the deposit return to arrive. When it did not I called and left a message requesting a return call and information about when our deposit would be returned. It has now been over two weeks and still no response. While I feel for the owner and wish no ill will, I would like my deposit money returned.
A delightful respite from a busy schedule. Anne is a wonderful hostess and made us feel so welcome. We met another couple that was interesting and enjoyed lively conversation over a glass of wine. Will go back!
